I think they will have more of those but more for first encounters like a bullymong and the torturer.

As for the intro, well that PAX gameplay is not from a finished game and maybe first Crystalisk enemy do had an intro (which we didn't see) . First Bullymong that we saw got an intro and he was not boss. So intro is not an indication wither something is boss or not.

I personally think that Gearbox only made intros for enemies that mattered. Sledge had an intro because you were constantly being informed that he was "the first real challenge". The destroyer didn't need an intro because 1. It still got a cutscene and 2. IMO, it didn't really have a name. It was some abomination dubbed the Destroyer because it was supposedly the destroyer of worlds. I suppose this doesn't explain Mad Mel though...

everything i read about maya from GBX says she can phase lock anything. it even says that later in the game she can turn any enemy into a teammate for a limited time. now i think that should work on bosses as well.

And then if we get Craw 2.0, something that's multiple levels above you and waywayway bigger, it only works for a split second. Or something. I don't know.
