Default Best 2 player co-op team?

So me and my brother are planning on doing a 2 player splitscreen playthrough and I was wondering about everyones thoughts on the best 2 character team?

I think the most obvious pair would be Axton + Maya for the support turret, healing abilities, and crowd control.

Do you plan on doing a 2 player playthrough? who are you going to play as?

Salavador/Maya for control and focus awesomeness.

Maya+whatever, especially Maya+Axton, Maya+Sal, Maya+Gaige.

But her skill of holding an enemy in place will do wonders to people's damage output.

A thoughtlocked mob gaining the attention of enemies around him will make a backstabbing Zero have a field day as well, since the mobs' attention will be on the thoughtlocked target.

but ultimately, any 2 classes will be fun together. Sal can gain attention while Zero backstabs or snipes from afar. shield turrets can help squishy Gaige while her pet wreaks havoc.

it would seem anything with maya

but the best overall is probably maya+sal

phaselocking + gunzerking together almost seems too easy.

but we'll see, we shall see

So far I'd have to say either:

Sal + Maya
Axton + Maya
Sal + Zero
Axton + Zero

To me that seems the most likely of combos I'll be seeing/using anyway. Sal/Axton to carry the aggro, and Zero to sneak up behind and do massive damage, or Maya to bathe everything in elemental damage/hold an enemy in place.

Alot of people have suggested Sal to me. But Sal looks like the most boring character (in my opinion)

The same with brick being my least favourite in BL1. Even though they are the most powerful in a straight up gun fight, i like having special skills and talents rather than just being tough and strong.

My brother seems deadset that he wants to play as Zer0, after seeing the skill trees.

Now I need to decide whether I want to use Maya or Axton as his partner.

Sal is going to be a late bloomer. When the game ramps up in difficulty and everyone's skills do less and less damage in comparison to the enemies, the guy who gets to hold 2 awesome guns that keep getting better as he finds drops as well as being able to throw 2-for-1 legendary grenades is going to be king.

Zer0 + Axton or Zer0 + Sal

Phaselock only distracts one enemy, the turret will take all aggro, as will Come At Me Bro.

Makes it incredibly easy for Many Must Fall backstabs and Like The Wind buffs.

Well I think i'm going to go with Axton to team with Zer0.

Which of the final skills do you think is best? I would probably go for the one that has 2 turrets to throw, but the skills which lead up to it arent my favourite so i mightg use the gunpowder skilltree which ends with a nuke.

I haven't noticed anyone mentioning Maya for her most obvious team ability (imo). To me, that's the Rez ability. To instantly bring up your partner and not have to be near them would be an incredible ability to have in a 2 man team. Did you get ambushed and have to run away to a corner to survive but your partner is down? No problem! He's up!
