I've done it every which way: running around herding never firing a shot, injuring, drawing into fights with NPC enemies, killing only littles, killing only bigs, killing only pods, etc. etc. Had 4 UBA flying around often, almost always 2.

When it happens, it has been a WTF? Last one I had only one UBA, had killed most of the other variants.

I really think it is just a random "you've been here long enough with enough aggro bugs, time to roll the dice..." event.

That said, I will add my 2 to the theories. It *seemed*, with the caveat that the mind is always looking for patterns and often they are not there, that whenever one of the relatively uncommon "blood varkid" would engage me, almost immediately after some pods would spawn. As this *seemed* to happen, the thought went through my head of "hmmm, blood of terramorphous...blood varkid..."

I put no weight in this.

There also seem to be a lot of "dud" Varkids if you pay attention to them all and keep track of what they're doing. Every Varkid has a patern. For example, once an Adult comes out of its pod, it flies around for a bit, then lands and goes straight into a badass pod (assuming 4 player difficulty). Sometimes you'll find Adults continuously flying around not landing and they're not going to evolve -- just shoot them down and let some "functional" Varkids spawn and take their place. I do my runs inside the infested warehouse in caustic caverns, feels the easiest to survive and the number of Varkids is pretty extreme.

I don't know if this could actually help, but i managed to spawn him lvl 41 (not playtrough 2.5 so) in the caustic cavern. Just me and a friend, we ran like idiots with the whole varkid area, all of them following us, we were firing in the air so they keep aggro.
Then, we managed to get a supreme badass and he was a bit agressive. The bugger (haw, haw) ran for nothing more than 15 seconds and went into morphin' and then it's growin' and OOOH MY GAWD KILL THIS THING !
It took a lot of time to get rid of it...

I have a theory.... every varkid that spawns generates a random roll in the game mechanics as to wether it will evolve further.
The higher the level of evolution the less likely it is to go further.

Probably a 1 in 20 chance of an UBA evolving.

Ey what platform are you on? I am looking for people to group with to try and farm him on the PS3. IF your on the PS3 add me be nice to have some people to try and farm him with.
