Can not log into online - Steam version

Does anyone have this problem, or know what I can do??
I have Steam Borderlands.
I start the game and go to online, put my gamespy info in (I made another account to be sure it wasn't wrong info..)

"login failed, you must be logged into an online account to play an online game"
this pops up about a second after I click login, it's like its not even checking my gamespy details, it just immediately decides I only have "Singleplayer" Borderlands and wont let me online.

Go ahead and try making yet another throw-away GameSpy account just to be sure.

I'm having the same issue also. I don't know what to do to fix it. I was able to view the servers yesterday but today it is not working.

just throwing myself in here as well, exact same problem says that my version is offline, dont even attempt to find it, tried restaring computer, still wont work, tried port forwarding incase it was that, still wont work.... funny thing is gamespy detects when im trying to create an account and can create one using the ingame interface..... then i try and loginto the one i just created same message just pops up again

Oh snap.

Euro here, only just unlocked the game. Tried logging in with my old gamespy account which im fairly sure i know. Doesnt work. Went onto the gamespy arcade and logged in just fine outside of the game....

Had the same thing, so I just made a new account. Was an easy and painless process that took about 10 seconds.

make sure you verify your email in gamespy once i did that it logged on fine

Bleh! forums went down before I could reply.
Gamespy gave me two names!
I needed my account name, but it was showing my nickname on my account page, and in password reset emails.
