1life2live runs

I mostly run an elemental build.

One of my most recent runs ended on the way to Wilhelm, there was some BS with an EXP Loader and him being the last enemy didn’t help. But I had the bright idea to take that run and continue with it, one step ahead of my next attempt, to see what the game throws at me and how it challenges me. I figured out that once I get back to Sanctuary, the smartest course of action is getting a Heartbreaker to replace my Harold, and running the Mercenary Day DLC for gear and XP. So my current run will follow that path, and hopefully the Harold I scored will work even longer than my others, since it’s of the DPUH variety. I’m feeling good about this, I think this run will get me to BNK-3R at least.

The final second of my old run:

I really want to give this a go, but not 100% sure what the ‘rules’ are.

Also I still haven’t got either Krieg or Gaige but am looking to buy one or the other of them and giving this a go with them. Anybody have any suggestions who to go for,I know it pretty much comes down to personal preference/play style etc. but I’d still be interested to hear your opinions on who’s you find the most ‘fun’ to play with.

The rules, as stated by the creator of this challenge.
Please ignore #4. Nobody expects anybody else to ever again 100% the game without dying.

Thank you for the clarification, definitely going to be giving this a try…and since I have absolutely no willpower, I ended up spending more money I can’t afford and getting both Krieg & Gaige, so I have them both to try out.

I’m glad I decided not to do a 1life run with Krieg first time out (I wanted to get used to him first), I got through to the Boom Bewm fight with no problems, killed Boom Bewm and went to check the red chest by the elevator there…only to get stuck and not be able to get out again, had to save and quit.

hahahaha that chest gets me sometimes, too. But there’s nothing wrong with save/quitting or even alt-f4ing in a 1life run as long as you don’t use it to bypass death. Plus, this way your Krieg can get more xp by killing the Booms again, and in case you’re wondering, being overlevelled is a great thing in this kind of run. I’m actually experimenting with a way of doing it right now: Farm all bosses for XP until they drop their legendaries (unless the run would be too tedious, such as Flynt, or if they have a bloated pool with customizations, like the assassins). I’m currently level 8 and still in Southern Shelf, I like this

I hate BS deaths so much. GAH. Level 18, vs. the Glutenous Thresher. 99%'d him, after backtracking all the way to where the Constructor gaurds the gate. Went down, DT was out to help, shot through the Thresher’s shield regenerative phase, and then… watched him get one-shot by a loader. Then the loader backpedaled behind a supply crate. I mean, seriously? That’s ridiculous. But a death is a death, I’m starting over.

First time I’ve ever gotten a TBF to drop whilst playing the story. I have high hopes for this run. Sorry about the level-up fog in the picture.

I’ve started this with Maya, is that allowed? I literally created the character and then saved and quit with 4 seconds playtime, so if I have to delete it because I wasn’t allowed to use her then it wont be a problem.

Has anyone done a 1Life guide? If not, seems like that’d be really cool.

Well, seeing as no one’s replied, I decided to take her through. Got to Southern Shelf with no problems, gonna farm Midgemong for his legendary.

I died. Threw a Fireworks Grenade at Midgemong. Didn’t go down very well.

Maya is DEAD at lvl5, with 30mins 46secs played.

Let’s hope the next run is a bit better!

Also, I decided not to run as Axton. Any other characters except Sal and Axton, as having played Axton ever since the release of the game, I know how to play him, and Sal is just too easy in the survivability department.

Yes, any character is allowed. The rules to this challenge are very straightforward, you cannot die or bypass death, and you may not abuse glitches. There are a few others, like not zone-transferring or save/quitting whilst enemies are aggro’d, but the first two are the most important.

What would you expect to see in this guide? A how-to for specific characters, or an explanation of all the rules, or what? I’d be down for creating such a thread, but I’m not sure what you meant.

Yea, like tips and tricks type stuff.

Idk about an entire playthrough, but I do like to challenge myself to get through certain maps at OP8 without dying. If I do die, I quit and try again later. Just got through a successful run through Opportunity as sniper Zer0, but it took me a few days.

Paying attention to where enemies are is definitely important because getting surrounded can ruin you. Also, if you think you’re going to need to heal, then do it immediately. You’ll be kicking yourself if you didn’t use a Grog or Transfusion grenades because you “thought” you could get out of a tight spot alive.

Working on Sawtooth right now. I made it through the first two major sections okay but I went and picked a fight with a few Threshers and got killed by a Rift variant. Those guys suckkk

Literally.

Yeah, I’ll start putting together a thread for what I do on these runs, see how it turns out.

Update: Got through Sawtooth!

Evisceration Grog Nozzle
Banbury Pimpernel (slag)
Barking Pimpernel (fire)
Gromky Lyuda (corrosive)

Blockade
Chain Lightning
Maliwan Allegiance Relic (+ Fire Rate / + Reload Speed)
Legendary Sniper COM

Well done! You just cleared one of the most difficult maps in the game. Gotta love Blaster Goliaths and Heavy Nomads.

Also, just realized I forgot to add to the rules that you can’t use Claptrap’s Stash to give a 1life character gear. That would take the challenge out of the challenge.

So I’m on what will be my last run for quite a while (I’m going out of country for several weeks) and I have a gripe with the scaling of game. “The Good, the Bad, and the Mordecai” is only available after turning in “End of the Line” and before removing the power core. If you turn in End of the Line and then take out the power core, the mission available icon will disappear. This means that the mission first becomes available immediately after killing Wilhelm, meaning that your character is at least level 15. However… “The Good, the Bad, and the Mordecai” is scaled to level 12, meaning that you have now unlocked two mini-bosses to farm, but their legendaries are nearly useless. (A level 12 Lyuda does not pack as much punch as a level 8 DPUH, to put this in perspective). This forces you into the Overlook fight with your best weapons being scrounged items. (Or, if you were lucky enough to get a corrosive variant RokSalt, that will hopefully be good enough)

An update to my run: This is precisely the position I was in. I had a level 8 DPUH, a shock Lyuda, and my corrosive RokSalt (level 15). I was level 17, one kill away from levelling up, so that worked perfectly. My RokSalt wasted them, and level up bonus didn’t hurt at all. I also ended up buying a level 15 Torgue launcher from the vendor in Overlook right before the fight and swapping that for the Lyuda. I survived and made it back to Sanctuary for the first time ever! I’ve since completed the mission for a Heartbreaker and will be rocking that through Wildlife Exploitation alongside my RokSalt. Done for the day, I wish many good things for this run. Maybe I’ll do the Danger Zone quest next, now that I have the Heartbreaker. I’m still only level 18 so I’ll need to grind XP somehow.
