2k Australia is shutting down

@Trench

Thank you for your honesty…

But I too shall speak my piece and just say a few words…

First off…when YOU have a family…and responsibilities…and suddenly a good job is GONE…a job you and your family were depending on…

I ask you to think about the words you have just spoken…and maybe reconsider.

And…probably unlike you…I have actually fought in a war with Australian comrades…Army…

Tough, friendly and always wore their heart on their sleeves. We had a saying…

“I never met an Australian I didn’t like.” and to this day…that still holds true with me…And their accent…you GOTTA be kidding me…If an accent bothers you then please stay away from my home state of Virginia…LOL

My heart goes out to those laid off folks…heck ANY folks that lose their job because of “downsizing” or “reallocation of resources” or “economic efficiencies” or whatever WORDS are being bandied about so casually by corporate folks who are totally protected by their well endowed golden parachutes and totally insulated from the harsh realities of their actions.

I understand the realities…in capitalism, you make money or perish. Heck, I even wore a uniform for 25 years to DEFEND that system. What I CAN’T abide is the greed and the excess that comes from it’s darker side…while still loving its overall benefits.

Here’s to better days ahead for the 2K Australia crew! :v:

You are a dead set legend John.

I agree 100% with what your saying, but all those "…"s make it hard to read.

I know what it’s like to be laid off. The game pushed the accent, and that was a mistake, game wise.

It’s an old Army thing, and many have caught me up on it and asked me to tone it down, sorry.

We were taught to write message traffic in short busts and to use the ellipses to add emphasis to things you wanted to stress or as breaks in thought. The idea was it FORCED the reader to pay attention to the message…even reread it instead of casually glancing over something that could be deadly important.

This was in the days of old when paper message traffic was still important…before digitization overtook the US Army.

I slip up a lot and revert to old habits., sorry.

You sound like a good guy, and I apologize. Was trying to be funny (in initial parody-of-2K letter post).

You sir…are a gentleman, and I think I would enjoy tipping a cool one (or two) with you some time should circumstances arise…

As I said, it was GEARBOX’s idea to go with the aussie accent; blaming 2KAUS for following instructions from GBX makes no sense whatsoever.

I really don’t think the accent is the problem in tps.
It’s mildly annoying, sure, but some people are making it a way, WAY bigger deal than it is. tps had other, heavier and more serious problems. Like the terrible writing and awful characters, or the mediocre maps, or the bad mission design…

Claptrap DLC was really though good enough to save the game for most people

The endgame was lacking in the beginning, but why people still persist to say this was a bad game is mind-boggling to me. I’ve read someone say the story was bad…what? I thought it was better than BL1 and BL2. Some people have said it’s the game that ended the Borderlands franchise…what? Have we been playing the same game?

The only thing I’ve read most people agree on was the lack of endgame. Some people didn’t like the Holodome and the environments, but a lot of people disagree. I have never seen so many people call a game terrible when the majority of people only see 1 problem with it.

i don’t get it.

Why is this hidden away over here? This should’ve been in the Gearbox News Forum. Weird.

2K Australia did a great job on the game and I am sorry to see them all go. BL:TPS had the odds stacked against it from the start. While BL2 is perceived to be a great game and is well made and turned out great in the end, the drama that ensued along the way lost Gearbox a lot of fans. BL:TPS had the hallmarks for being as significant as BL2 but at release day less than half was sold (by my findings) and the same issues appeared as the last game along with newer issues (smaller season pass with less campaigns) the numbers of people playing the game drastically fell off over time and the release of DLC only saw small returns to the game which quickly subsided. I believe Gearbox and 2K have sullied their fanbase with the drama ensuing from the issues with BL2 and the repercussions are that the fans are not all returning to the franchise and those that did to show support only found many had given up playing the game very quickly. The rapid drop off of people playing BL:TPS has made the marketplace toxic not only towards BL series but I believe they will feel the effects on Battleborn as not everyone will buy into the experience up front as much as they did in BL2. As I said at the start BL:TPS even though it is short and has a small season pass it is a great game from many respects. It is a game that had to face the front of a toxic fanbase and attempt to regain trust. The lack of commitment to make this a big game like BL2 is a good indicator that Gearbox / 2K even realised from the outset that they may face a hard sell. There should be a long time before BL3 arrives to let peoples antagonistic feelings fade somewhat, and Gearbox should learn from their past and approach Battleborn with more clarity and continuity as doing this will build back goodwill and give BL3 a better chance of being successful than BL:TPS had. Sorry to those who lost their jobs, I believe it was 40 or so people, I hope they find employment again soon.

2k Austrailia made the Sir Hammerlock DLC…

Do you know how much it sucks when video games are your life, and when you finally get a job with them you get thrown out? It friggin’ sucks. It didn’t happen to me ever before, cause i work for myself, but when i rise to the top, if and 2K Australia people need a job, i have so many open spots. My wishes to them and their families. Looking at those credits in BL:TPS, and remembering how much joy the people had in the making of TPS videos… I mean, they were so damn happy about it. Putting their souls in it. And now they have nothing. It really is sad.

The only reason people say BL:TPS sucks it because it’s not a BL2

So sad :sob: - TPS is better than BL2 - can’t even play BL2 any more (tried and gave up after 5 min) and had about 1500 hrs in it prior to TPS release.

Borderlands the Pre-Sequel wasn’t a bad game, it was just a less ambitious project than Borderlands 2. Notice how NO ONE has compared Borderlands 2 badly with Borderlands 1, probably because a majority of people played Borderlands 2 only instead of Borderlands 1. The 3rd game is obviously going to be more ambitious, but to just call the game “a rehash” is pretty low. I mean seriously, that is like saying if you don’t change the layout and interface for each game, it makes it a rehash. Lots of people also fail to realize that once upon a time, there was no GOTY edition of Borderlands 2 for eight bucks. 2K Austrailia as you can see didn’t want to have just 4 characters, they wanted to have 6 like Borderlands 2, but this in the end caused controversy. Holodome Onslaught was bad, but I thought Moxxi’s Underdome was also not that great either, moving that aside, Holodome Onslaught is most likely the main reason against season pass if not the fact you get two other characters instead of campaign dlc. Claptastic Voyage was amazing, so good to the fact I felt sad that it ended. If Pre-Sequel had 3 more solid dlcs like that, TPS would blow Borderlands 2 into the dust. TPS gets all the gameplay mechanics right, with actual scaling, classes can actually be powerful later on (and not just gunzerker), and synergy within the skill trees. The ingame dialogue was pretty funny and made this game very enjoyable on the first run. Lasers and Oz Kits were a blast, and the two dlc characters we got were also very well made (especially Doppelganger). The lack of raid bosses is another thing, we already got Raid version of the Sentinel and EOS, yet people still complain the fact you can solo them? I mean, do you guys know that many other people playing TPS? So how is soloing them a bad thing? Sure, there wasn’t tons of raid bosses, but Borderlands 1 didn’t have raid bosses and no one complained, besides, Terra gives crappy drops anyways. They added respawnable bosses and did their best to make a grinder a competent substitute in the meantime as well. Borderlands 2 I find only superior by quantity, if TPS was just as long or longer, I would find it better than Borderlands 2 even. People judged this game too harshly to be honest and were thinking this was going to be as ambitious was Borderlands 2, it isn’t Borderlands 2, it is the Pre-Sequel!

A lot more people are still playing BL2 than BL:TPS, even considering the starting stats for both games and after so much time passing for BL2 the percentage of people still playing BL2 is much higher than BL:TPS. For some people I guess jumping, Oz and Ice are not their thing.

I can only hope that, when your time comes, and you lose a job in a tough employment market, that you have someone behave like such an insensitive 'sole as you just have.

Perhaps when you are old enough to know the feeling, you will be ashamed of what you have just done.

To 2K Aust, thanks for plenty of fun and all the best in future.

I think it was pretty clear that 2K Aust has no future. I get what you mean though… all the people who worked there.
