Anyone else have an issue with first person camera on melee characters? With characters like Benedict and Thorn with HUGE jumps and many others like them it’s difficult to follow them as a melee.

I saw other posts for this but they want a 3rd person for ALL characters. I’m against that since ranged would have WAY too much situational awareness.

How does everyone feel about this?

I’m just thinking 3rd person on Montana would be hilarious.

I’m for 3rd person on melee, its easy to lose track of things with all the clutter on the screen.

Nope

That is another reason why I made this post. As if having part of your screen taken up by your character’s body/weapons but once all the pretty effects start going off good luck staying on target.

Mind elaborating why not? Just saying, NO does not fly on my threads

I honestly doubt this will happen. It’s more likely to be all or nothing.

Alternatively increasing FOV for consoles would alleviate a lot of the first person melee issues without fundamentally changing the game.

Do melee players on PC with max FOV find things easier?

I also thought the same thing. There is no option for it unfortunately. One or the other would be welcome. As it stands currently it’s a cluster when you play melee.

Using 3rd person gives an unfair advantage by using the camera as a way to “peek” around corners and doorways…it’s like an ambush and since they are strong up in someones face like that, it leaves for room to have an unfair advantage.

Just my opinion.

I do see how it is hard to play but I also think that seeing your character fight with all the big animations and numbers bleeding off and other animations, will just not give someone the view they think it will.

( There’s basically the same post in the Battleborn (non Beta) Discussions …
I will link it here and just copy my opinion )

No.

First person is fine. I have played a lot of melee during Beta and I have seen melees wreck the opposing team time and time again. If you can not keep up with all the things around you -> get better …

You realize that there´s actually melee critical hits? … they would be much harder to hit in third person. Quickly checking the minimap if you lose some characters out of sight in melee fights can help too btw.

That’s the post I was referring to, however, they ask for ALL, reason I specifically stated melee as it feels they are at a disadvantage currently.

For those concerned about peeking around corners, what if the camera were right over the shoulder. This would prevent seeing enemies behind you and if positioned correctly alleviate the aforementioned issue.

The biggest problems with first person melee atm is all the clutter, even though it’s cool that I can see my characters spikes or mouth or w/e it just lessens the FoV.

While I have to agree that it can get a bit messy in melee fights sometimes the dominance that a lot of melee characters were showing during the Beta just goes to show that they are very competetive.
I say it´s just about practice and getting used to it rly!

Btw. … as I already mentioned … hitting melee critical hits for example would probably be more difficult in 3rd person than it already is now.

The character parts obscuring the screen you mentioned are a thing that many people seem to be bothered with (also saw this mentioned in a review on youtube) but if we are honest we have to realize that for the most part the actual obstructed space is quite negligible and will rarely -if ever- be the deciding factor in a fight.
