A Blue-gear only run?

I 've been doing this with a Maya and she has just started UVHM and as @Ronnie_Rayburn mentioned this weapon was the star of the show along side CK …

I was level 47.5 having just killed the Warrior and about to start UVHM with white and green gear only, but don’t allow myself to use more greens than white gear nor farm for gear in shops or chests, and tbh she did it fairly comfortably and i hope UVHM will be a bit tougher, because if you are looking to challenge yourself i would suggest “not” using Maya or Sal, or even melee Kreig, but another VH.

I did “drag” an all white sniper Zero to and through UVHM, but wouldn’t recommend going that far as that ended up more a challenge of stubbornness on my part than a challenge i actually enjoyed in the end.

I think your choice to avoid unique’s is good as some of those are more than great, but if i was doing a blue only run it would have to be sniper Zero for obvious reasons … but i am a sick bastard who likes to punish myself for fun in this game, and it lets me appreciate different gear that you would normally treat as vendor fodder.

The same can be said of some allegiance runs, especially if you choose a manufacturer not optimal to that VH like the all Hyperion Zero my son wanted me to do. I didn’t have a shield until level 15, and even then it was a rubbish white one, and i have no way of healing until i have Innervate or Resurgence … lots of fun.

It goes without saying that these are “Not” one life runs either.

I tried a solo run with Maya and got two legendaries when I said I don’t want to use them, lmao (Kerblaster from the Midgemong and a elementless Infinity from Doc Mercy); Hammerlock in the Bad Hair Day sidequest gave me a Damage prefix Jakobs Sniper and I owned everything until I got a green Incendiary Snider, even better (also I got two green Coach Guns and a Bushwack, ez)

Maya go to the right tree. Cloudkill owns stuff regardless of gear and will be a major damage dealer throughout the run. What you build up to after CK is up to you but I’d probably start going left for Converge to get some max AOE going with CK. You should have an easy enough time until UVHM and then you should have enough points built up to have options for different viable builds for the challenge. I’d imagine going for the mid tree after converge to build up on some healing options in orbs and getting extra DPS in Wreck as well as picking up Res is the best but I might not see the whole picture here.

Yeah, probably is better to go on the Cataclysm first because on NVHM I don’t really need all the healing stuff, and Cloud Kill is too powerful to ignore!

But you can’t use Moxxi guns if you go no uniques. Melee Krieg might want to stay away from those anyway.

A personal fave are green Jacobs snipers and any maliwan sniper.

Jacobs coach guns or bushwacks are fun too.

Vladof pistols are great too.

Lookout for Jacobs gattling guns. Green rarity ones usually get me through a lot of nvhm.

Just try everything you find and see what you like. Most things work up to level 50.

Yeah, Maliwan elementals too are great as I saw in my test run; in NVHM you don’t have resists aside from the occasional element-charged enemies (fu**ing Flynt my only good weapon aside from the Jakobs sniper was a damn Vladof TMP)

So, what are your rules until you pick up blues anyway?
You can use anything but if you find a blue you have to put it into a slot and then it’ll just build into an all blue eventually? Or are you going to farm like mad through all of it to pick up good blues throughout?

I’ll use anything I can get from drops/vendors, just not Purple, Uniques and up! I can limit myself to not using the vendors too I guess, the good stuff I got in my test run was all dropped by enemies (bar the sniper Hammerlock gave me)

IMO, and without any particular VH in mind, I think it’s hard to go wrong with any decent-spec’d Hyperion Thinking shotgun…the accuracy buff, decent range, good power, comes in elements, one ammo per shot.

Good enough for this run, I don’t really feel like using half of the Hyperion weapons but I like their SMGs and Shotguns, and they can come with an element, giving Maya a good gun to use; good advice, I’ll see if I can get lucky enough for a Fire/Shock Thinking

Any Jakobs shotgun with a mag size big enough to be shot twice, and any gun with a mag size of at least 10-12. Bonus points if it slags or gives crit bonuses. Usually a sniper is a good pick

Rest of loadout:
Adaptive shield
Health relic
Monk or raider COM Monk would be best, with secondary skill being T-Rex
Any grenade (transfusions would help)

I even posted a brawn-centric version specifically for those who chose to go without a moxxi gun and need to get healing elsewhere.

Yes, you can totally run a Deputy build without any unique item.

If you want to try another character, I think Maya would do it well as mentioned, but one character no one thinks about: Zero doesn’t need any of those fancy Legendary things to kill.

Uhhh, I can give that build to my friend, he hasn’t decided the character to use in our run (I already knew the build but I didn’t think much of a Unique-less one, thanks a lot!)

I, as written above, considered to ignore vendors too, it can be fun but until now in my test run the good stuff I got was from the drops, so IDK if it will change anything; I can see why she did well but I didn’t expected THAT well, gg friend; that zer0 run I suppose it was a bit of hell without the Pimp, Moxxi weapons and good grenades o:
I want a challenge I can enjoy, that’s why I chose Maya with my friend playing Sal/Krieg

Allegiance runs got my eye too since I tried Zer0 with Jakobs-only gear through TVHM and a bit of UVHM, I wanted to try something else (Maliwan/Hyperion/Torgue? I’d say the Torgue one will be a pain in earlygame and when you are supposed to encounter the Buzzards, rip)

Thanks for sharing with us, and yes it is a good place with a lot of great ideas and great people to put them forward and that’s what makes this place so good imo.

There are heaps of possibilities for playthrough’s like shop/drop only and scavenger runs, quest item only, which are great fun in co-op as well as more challenging types, but if your mate is less experienced a mix of both fun with a little challenge should make for a good playthrough, especially if you duel to see who gets the pick of the loot

Don’t feel guilty about anything mate, it’s all self imposed except for when my young son thinks of something that he thinks will be very difficult or amusing to him, which as his Dad i have to do of cause. That’s kind of how the all white Zero started. He saw a video, set me the task, and i’m a “very” stubborn bastard who doesn’t like to quit, so on and on and on it went

What did you do in BL2 during your most recent session?

I’m curious to see how everyone else approaches the game, which activities people enjoy, etc. I’m hoping this will be an ongoing discussion where people can casually talk about what they’ve been up to. Getting it started… I had a lot of time yesterday because of the holiday. facerolled Sal from OP5 to OP8 in 2 hours. farmed Infinities, which went quickly did some loot train runs with Sal at OP8 and Maya at OP6 cleared the Forest and Southpaw with Maya for fun got froggy and went into Digistr…
