A cool tidbit of backstory for Jack and Angel that I found in Borderlands 3

She is the only one with a mysterious background.
The only others being zero and we know he’s human. Maybe related to that maliwan guy.

It wasn’t never said how many people survived the attack. He spoke about an incident scooping someone’s eyes out, sure, but technically that was just an ad lib by Dameon Clarke.

The way he talks about her when he said he ‘paid that Tannis lady a visit’ is not making me think ‘aww he spared her because he loves her’. Him and Wilhelm gleefully beat her for hours.

I wouldn’t have been surprised if they left her alive so she could live with the guilt of losing the vault key rather than being merciful.

Pretty sure it’s said she was the only one to survive new havens attack. And I never said he loved her. He’s convinced his wife is dead so he would only be somewhat merciful to the women that reminds him of her. Hence letting her live.

No. New Haven was attacked and Roland was also there. Lilith stages her ‘death’ there to fool Jack and there were other survivors who migrated to Sanctuary.

I don’t know why but the idea of Tannis, a character who was already shoved down our throats for this story for some reason, becoming even more central to the story like that…it makes me uncomfortable. It’s lazy too. Just because she had similar clothes to a portrait of a pregnant woman doesn’t mean it’s her. It’s not like in the picture the woman had six fingers and Tannis has six finger too or something - it’s a vague similarity in clothing.

It’s just such a waste if they did that. Tannis, as much as I didn’t like her becoming a siren, doesn’t need anymore added to her story. She’s already been given enough.

Jack’s story has ended this only adds a clearer picture to his story.

Tannis knows alot for someone just stranded out on Pandora. No companies would just leave someone so valuable.

And of course the vault hunters lived.

In Jack’s wiki (yah yah yah wiki) it states that he caught Pierce trying to escape with survivers. He and willhelm caught them and had willhelm kill everyone and he killed Pierce. New haven and it’s people were killed off. Except the vault hunters and tannis.

I don’t think not killing her was for her to suffer losing the key. Roland, Lilith survived and I don’tdon’t remember Roland being there but that’s plenty of people for him to let suffer for losing the key.

Do we really need to know who Angels mother is though? It adds nothing to the story. Making it Tannis just further objects her as a really important character but er character doesn’t need this.

I’d much rather a new character was created to fill the hole that is Jacks Wife’s name but it’s not a necessity to the story.

Pierce was caught, yes, but there are people in sanctuary who literally say ‘not quite New Haven’. People escaped.

I’m sorry but it’s just incredibly lazy writing if they do make Tannis her mother. It wouldn’t answer anything - in fact it would leave more questions. Why didn’t Tannis warn them that Angel worked for Jack? Why does she show no emotion regarding Angel or Jack?

And if you’re answer is ‘maybe she lost her memories’ that’s an even worse trope than ‘it was all just a dream’.

Tannis worked for Dahl, she was a scientist tasked to learn more about he vaults, she was abandoned on the planet by Dahl much like most people are on Pandora, she eventually worked alongside the Crimson Raiders to help them in their mission.

I think she got siren powers because anyone who had been in contact with anything remotely Eridian tends to become tied up in it. That’s the only constant I’ve seen so far.

Again no one would leave someone as valuable as her, expecially since everyone wants the vaults.

And memory loss is a vary valid thing, regardless if you think it’s to troupey. Expecially with her behavior with you know recording alot of what she does important and not on echo logs. And has you go find them. Sounds like something someone does that has lost there memories and who they are.

This does not make her role much bigger then it is. also again Jack’s story is done adding to it means nothing really but explains her powers and more of her back story. One of which needs explaining.

Giving the role to someone else would not makes sense with all of tannis connections. And giving it to someone else would illogical. If it’s intentional or not they have made the building blocks for this story to take off in a DLC. They can even bring in his second wife or make her the villian of the dlc.

That’s not how Siren powers work.

Maya gave ava her powers.

Angel gave tannis hers.

That’s how that works other wise it goes to a new born female.
This means tannis is some one angel knows and is important to her.

There is no exact way that a siren receives their powers. You can choose whom to give it to, sure, but Tannis becoming a siren was just the writers wanting a trio of badass females lead the story. That’s why they killed of Maya - trying but failing to make us root for Ava.

There is nothing that 100% says why Tannis became a siren. I’ve seen people say it’s because Angel stores her powers in an item which Tannis found while studying her chambers in the dlc, others say it’s because Angel spoke to Tannis…

It’s just trying to read too much into it. It already felt weird for her to become a siren and into this massively important character that was central to Borderlands 3’s story progression - to give her more on top of that. I would just be too much.

As for Jack sparing Tannis…he beat her to a bloody mess for hours and let her live out of this warped sense of being a hero. He was egotistical and probably didn’t think her important. There isn’t anything in writing to say what exactly happened but Tannis was not the only one who survived New Havens attack - only that she was thankful to Roland and was genuinely upset when he died because he saved her life. She showed nothing regarding Angel and Jack - infact getting giddy about going through angels stuff to learn about sirenology. That’s all she cared about - facts - because she’s a scientist.

I think Jacks backstory is so perfectly fleshed out that we don’t need to know much more about it. We know it’s beginning, middle and end - you guys are just reaching to pair people up and even saying ‘amnesia’ for if there are holes in your theory.

And finally, why does a character briefly mentioned in a story - wife 1 and wife 2…why does it have to be someone we already know? Why can’t there be potential for future characters? Better yet, why do they have to be named at all? Wife 1 died and wife 2 just left out of discomfort of what Jack was doing. Not every character in this game has to be central to the story still - they could have just turned their back on it all to love their own life?

Because she keeps popping up. In 2 his wife is mentioned a good amount. In TPS she(s) is mentioned even more. In 3 she is mentioned once again, and a painting of her and jack which her face is the only one destroyed.

Why, why not just give her a name, why hide her identity. Why keep mentioning her but keep her hidden.

We know as it was stated sirens are born with there powers and only 6 can be around at and you given time. 3 adds onto this mythology by making it a thing that can be passed on to a individual of there choosing.

Nothing else has been said or shown to get powers other ways.

I also explained why she wouldn’t feel anything towards them, she does not know them anymore thus only seeing there bad side.

It also helps that part of her powers is seeing memories of others and potentially even herself. So even her powers kinda fit into the whole memory loss.

But how can you not understand by just throwing out ‘oh yeah she forgot’ is just an incredibly weak character development? Why were there no mentions of Angel knowing Tannis prior to this? Why did Jack speak of her in neither a highly or disgusted way? Why would a scientist for Dahl have anything to do with an engineer from Hyperion?

It doesn’t answer any questions A it just raises more questions.

The only reason I think it was ever mentioned was to give a human side to Jack. To show he was a normal guy in the picture with his wife, that he’s very touchy about the loss of his wife and kills anyone that even mentions her. She is the reason he has such a burning hatred for bandits - as well as his own experience with his grandmother.

I think they’ve just avoided giving her a name for as long as they have because she was just a figure of Jacks past that is no longer relevant. Angel loved her and misses her, as did Jack. But the story of the vaults isn’t really to do with her - she was just an unfortunate victim that is the curse of sirens.

It’s not really and does not have to be either. It would explain not knowing and alot of her weird quirks like recording useless stuff she does.

Angel was a child and went through many traumatic experiences one including her mother. It’s possible she locked away those memories in order to protect herself until the end. As we see with tannis a part of her powers has to do with memory.
So she could not remember her mother or what she looked like as her subconscious used her powers to lock it away. This is a real thing.

It’s not just explaing tannis, angel, Jack’s wife relationships it’s also going in more depth of how angels powers work.

As for a Dahl scientist and someone from hyperion goes. There was no war then. Nothing says you can’t date outside your company.

There’s a side quest where we get to learn about Angel and Jack’s past before everything happened, and we literally hear Angel’s mother die. Tannis being Angel’s mother could potentially be an interesting fan AU, but there is really no way this could be canon.

The second wife mentioned in “Get To Know Jack” was most likely Moxxi. She was possibly married to Jack, and it was clear in the Presequel she was aware of how evil he could be, which is why she ultimately betrayed him and tried to kill him.

Tannis has Aspergers. That is the reason she feels a connection with inanimate objects - she struggles to understand human emotion. I’m 100% sure this was confirmed…

You can use the ‘forgot’ thing for one of them maybe. But everyone involved just conveniently forgets? Angels power is to do with machinery. Not people and their memories. Her memories being stored were accidental. She still had those memories herself - it didn’t extract them away.

I’m still annoyed that Moxxi was pushed into such an important role - being a reason Jack became a murdering psychopath. I liked Moxxi before but that just made me hate her.

I don’t think they were married though - I know they did date. And on the side quest where you sabotage Opportunity, he doesn’t speak about her like an ex wife. And Moxxi is always particular about her words - she’d have said ex husband. I know she was married to Marcus though at one point.

I think that’s also a reason I don’t like the idea of Tannis being an ex wife. Everyone having dated everyone in the story. It annoys me with Moxxi when we’re always doing something to do with an ex, don’t make that for Tannis too ;-;

I mentioned in my theory that he believes her to be dead. And that trauma could be the cause of her memory loss.

For example people have been thought dead of which they weren’t even in hospitals. So he could have figured her to be dead. Been chased off by another bandit coming after them after angels short out burst, chasing off jack to save his daughter.

Bandits take tannis and save her life. Something like that is vary feasible. I’ve already incorporated what happened in those memory’s into my theory.

I’m pretty sure I remember something about the 2nd wife being a Hyperion researcher who worked on the Angel project, and left Jack because she didn’t like what he was doing to Angel, telling him to shut the project down before she left. I can’t see that being Moxxi. While Moxxi and Jack did date at some point, there is no evidence that they were ever married.

Tannis was able to see them because of some kind of connection. Siren, or just part of her siren powers. She mentions some thing like this. Tannis powers are not strictly mechanical.

Tannis would come from physical trauma while angle mental trauma.

And yes I’m aware of her mental problems but that only explained why she is into inanimate objects but not why she has this weird urge to echo so much useless stuff. Not that it needs explaining it’s just a weird habit she has. She also shows interest in some men as well. Typhon, that bio chemist dude, the vault hunters. So it’s not strictly machines either.
