A Modest Proposal

Before anything gbx should fix the performance isseus on pc. There is no point to advertise a game that only 20% of steam community can play

Please search the forum about a topic before creating one. Every variation of f2p and which characters should be available as well as whether story is, the cost of characters, freemium and premium items, etc. Have all been discussed.
While I do appreciate new ideas, as does everyone, having six of the same thread is… Excessive.
And my opinion, adding extra gear to pvp? And making pvp free? That seems too kind to them.

I dunno what “too kind” is, but making more people want to play the game seems like a good thing in a multiplayer online only game that doesn’t have enough players and isn’t likely to suddenly get a bunch more when newer releases come out in the fall and around Christmas.

I’m a pvp player, and I get plenty of loot. But, hey, I can definitely see the merit.
I also feel my opinion isn’t as valid. Because I’m on ps4. There are tons of new players lately. I haven’t had an issue with the sheer numbers since release.

20% of steam is alot, hun. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: If PC had 20% of steam playing it, it wouldn’t be in trouble.

Where’d you get that figure from?

Your opinion is as valid as mine :sunglasses:, I’m also on PS4… How do you get “plenty of loot” by playing only PvP, I mean you get credits and packs for leveling up, but the leg drop rate on packs is quite low (or maybe that’s just my experience) and you don’t get as many credits usually for PvP… almost all of my legendaries (including shard generators and other key white loot gear which I consider in the same tier as legendaries) have come from PvE. Even most of my good purples haven’t come from epic packs, but from PvE.

In terms of player numbers, PvE matchmaking is there, but slow, you rarely get a 5 man in advanced, but I’m partially ok with that as 5 man randoms on most advanced missions is a recipe for quick failure because people don’t know how to handle the opening areas in almost every advanced PvE mission. I say partially ok because, again, I worry in a month or two with no new content player base will drop more and it will be harder and harder to get a game with randoms.

In PvP on PS4, unless you’re on during normal North American hours, getting a Capture or Meltdown match just isn’t on, though it’s not too hard to get Incursion and the Australian timezone people I play with can usually reliably get one after a few minutes.

Actually, I hear it’s low, but I have like 15 pack legendaries, and I’ve only played for 100 hours, have every load out and bank upgrade, and only really play PVP and never on double credit weekend (bad timing). So not too many credits on loot.

Sry i didnt explain my self; from the 100% of pc players who bought the game only (probably) 20% can play it without performance isseus

i like these ideas and for the most part, they aren’t new. Ive seen all of these brought up in at least one post before.

I think the main problem with dwindling players is the fact that this game has been out for a number of months and there is no “end game” or other content to keep people going for a long period of time. Yeah, they are dropping DLC and all that, but the long term life cycle isn’t that of Destiny which has tons of worlds and such, so the extended content is there. Many have been at 100CR forever. Apart from the fact that I have a number of guys not at 15 and I don’t have any other games to play is the only reason I still do. Adding another “level” isn’t going to make me play any longer. My end date is pretty much set in stone.

Now that lores are super easy they are done faster so that leaves less time trying to get them. I bet I spent something like 30 hours trying to get all 10 of Ghalts first kills done. Now, I could get it done in about 2 minutes.

A free to play game might bring in players, but even then they aren’t going to play forever being that almost all the other things would be locked behind the wall. Lore legendaries (while most suck) would be included. This would put them at an EXTREME disadvantage. And before anyone says otherwise, gear makes a difference.

I think the updates on this one might be too little too late. I hate to say it, but it’s true. I’ve loved my BB purchase and I won’t have a problem buying GBX games in the future. in 2 months, I’m done. That’s the bottom line. Titanfall 2 comes out. No more BB.

Too bad the F2P Evolve model is a sinking ship and theyre still trying to throw the anchor overboard too.
Battleborn F2P may bring people in, but it needs players to stay. Im sure having, say, 5000 players join the game wld be fantastic, but if only 50 stay longer then a month then what was the point of being excited about the 5000?
Its too early for Battleborn to be looking at F2P, the earliest they cld, wld be after the 1 year mark and all the season pass jargen comes out.
Ill say it now so i can say “i told you so” if i get the opportunity, F2P wont save battleborn.
If BB was F2P, whats guna bring players in over League, Dota, or heroes of the storm? What cld we change to get people to stay? These are heavier questions to ponder.

I agree, the poor should sell their babies as food. I’d buy that.

Wait, oh

Whoops.

I think we can all agree on that mate

Actually, all valid points. And well made. But what free game has legendary’s drop as easily as story in this game? If they went free, I’d expect the drop rates to drop like a damn base at a tween concert. Repeatedly until we’re all crying and begging for it to stop.
I almost always get legendary’s lately in hc advanced. I don’t normally play story, but I mean… It went from 50 advanced Renegade with zero… To getting four in a row on three runs. There’s a few month gap between those two… I think I lost my point. I’m tired, sorry.
The point was something about how drop rates would have to be worse than the current loot packs to go free, especially if you up the income. My average income per match has been 500 lately, so I could see that being exploited easily.

The rambles… Apologies.

Ah, that makes more sense. :kissing_heart: Sorry for the sass, I just wanted to add some flavour to the post, ya know?

Im very bored…

First off:
This idea is a great one, but I see no reason why not to open a vein. It’s easy and simple, plus all the vampires in the crowd get to eat something for once. They must be getti-
Oh. That was a metaphor. Sorry.
But aside from my cheap sarcasm, this plan has everything going for it. My only wants or changes to it would be to make it so that there would be more bang for your buck. I mean, in it’s current state I would not buy the game for 8 missions of campaign and a upcoming DLC mission for $60. Even $20-$30 seems a bit much. So rather, how about this: $30 for the 8 missions and their multi-player, but make the free version feel more like a demo. You only can play the starters and rather than having a CR and title on your name card it says something like “Demo Player”. This way they feel as if buying the game is neccesary. Plus, perhaps get another chapter of campaign or something along those lines. We need more lore on the varelsi, and frankly I want more varelsi-themed missions based on exploration, such as the algorithm or the sentinel.
However, there will still be other issues, such as the fact that Galilea by herself is ungodly overpowered (Getting hit with a shieldstun is instant guaranteed death for almost all characters at close range) while ISIC’s rotating wards can barely stand up straight. Matchmaking also is a fickle little b!tch most of the time, so why not revamp that too. Certain legendary gear peices are far too unversatile compared to other ones (Voxis Core vs. Arcship Buoy), so we would need to buff those too.
Other than those I believe your plan is set to rebuild battleborn from the ground up in at least a day or two. So, this brings me to my favorite part of a post of mine:
Go ahead and point out every flaw you can find. It amuses me more than anything else.

As long as the Pay Wall won’t retro-actively hit Players that already got the game in some way, it’s fine to me.

More Players are always welcome.

We all were new Players at some point, don’t ever forget this fact.

Only ■■■■ drops from boxes anyway hah!

I don’t know what you mean by “boxes”… You can get good loot from chests because of the game’s innovative loot/shard system where any color can be useful depending on the situation. If you mean loot packs, there are some great legendaries in them (Vampiric Vestment, Friction Fizz etc.), plus what I said above. In most games with loot, you don’t even look at a white/green/blue type after you’ve played for awhile.

lots of great ideas OP. I hope gearbox is listening and taking notes.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE battleborn, and is honestly my GOTY so far. It just makes me sad so few are playing and unwilling to give it a chance.

BUT as an individual, I feel as if I have done all I can do for the game. bought the season pass, supported it from day one, championed the game on other forums to get others interested, got one of my RL friends to purchase it and play with me…

but I can’t do much more than wait. It is now Sunday morning, (no football on yet) prime time for gaming, and I am searching for meltdown, my favorite mode. I found a full team in 3 minutes, which is great. we then searched for a team to compete against for 4 minutes. at 7 minutes, a player had enough and dropped out. Now we are searching to replace that player…but another player dropped because it is taking so long. I am approaching 10 minutes of searching for a meltdown game on sunday morning as of this writing and am about to give up.

And you know what? even if we found a game, there is a 90% chance that one of 3 things will happen: 1) one team will get completely stomped and surrender 2) somone will AFK or quit out 3) one team will surrender 6 minutes in for seemingly no reason.

I just don’t know what else to do but move on until Gearbox does something to add more players. But if I move on, then I am just contributing to the problem, and I definitely don’t want that. But I have been playing since day 1, logged hundreds of hours completed all lore challenges and got my moneys worth. so whatever I guess.

It is now 12 minutes of searching for a meltdown match and I am the only player, the others already left :frowning:

I am in quite literally your exact same situation.

Luckily, I don’t have all the lore challenges / characters mastered yet, but getting fairly close.

Been unable to find Meltdown / Capture since Friday.

Seeing MANY of the same players in matches.

It makes me sad…such a brilliant, deep, fun, beautiful, amazing game!
