So been running the challenges and just wanted to share a little bit of extra stuff to look out for. Always check your surroundings for 2 things: a small gate that needs a “key” and a color corresponding skull that is always looking at you (i know the images have 2 different colors, but they are the 2 things to look out for). The runes you find on the map, i think just add some extra chaos/help but i don’t go near that since it’s chaotic already.
So example is you find that little gate and the color on top is blue (I’ve seen it as blue, purple, yellow or green). Somewhere near is a skull of the same color. Shoot it and this wisp will go back to said gate. Open it and you’ll get extra butt stallion crystals (honestly missed what they were called, but that’s what I’m going with). So it could be an extra 50 crystals you need for a harder challenge or to use at the end of the trial.
Side note, i do have the demi lich with me and i wouldn’t have noticed if he didn’t say something about someone watching us and he’ll bite em. That’s how I found out.

I’m not playing the game (yet?), but thanks anyway!
The runes are little mini games to unlock raid bosses. They only seem to spawn after you finish a level and only down up on non boss levels, usually near the reward.
There are 3.
One spawns a mushroom you jump on and shoot it’s spores in order (the purples ones).
Another spawns a searchlight thing you have to shoot while not getting flashed.
The third spawns little ice things you have to lead to a bigger orb and shoot when close to freeze the orb.
I think you get three chances with each.
