About FL4K's skill tree

3 pets 3 skill trees I see them going to buff the pets up. Ice , Fire and Shock it might even let you change the elements of the pets like Ice to Acid, Fire to Rads, Shock to ???

That would be great - just like Bloodwing in BL1!

Sorry if this is common knowledge around here but Fl4K’s bio on the official website was changed not long ago. It kinda spoils that FL4K will have a pet as a passive + 1 of 3 different action skills:

  • The 3 Rakks(can be seen at 0:57 in the Announcement Trailer)
  • Somekind of teleporting the pets(probably the aura thing)
  • The Invisibility which acts like Phasewalk(health regen and speed)

We were having a talk over on the Amara boards about Fl4ks potential.

What are you guys hoping for? Personally I’m hoping that each tree isn’t just about ā€œWell this is your tanking pet, and this set of skills makes it tank better, this is your dps, this makes it DPS harderā€ā€¦ that kind of flat stuff. Really we were talking about the potential for multiple skills to let you customize your pet, like Amara/Zanes action skills are done… and how much it doesn’t seem like Moze quite lives up to the other two.

So what about you guys? Hoping for something pretty diverse or a straight summoner?

@Slif_One (figured I’d tag here to save your Amara thread from more flakiness)

I’d like to see only one tree dedicated to pets. One tree to rule them and in the darkness bind them. Rather than each tree buffing Pets A, B and C, only one tree that applies passive buffs to them all. Maybe each skill has one of three different outcomes depending on the pet rather than the same buff for them all, but there would be across the board skills too like say the minor and major capstones greatly buffing all pets with the same stat increases.

Of course, other trees would have some skills that buff pets, but those would have a focus on the other aspects of FL4K’s gameplay and those across the board pet buffs would tie in with that themed mechanic.

In regards of the new bio, i think each skill tree will have it"s own focus depending on the skill of that tree but not the pet. I 'd like to see some movement speed and area effect while going out of the phasewlak, or maybe the rift. I think like Amara and Zane it will not really be based on which skill you choose and the buffs and secondary skills will apply with any pets. I really wish to have movement speed augment in one of the trees, I fell like it’s mandatory for a character like fl4k who is wild and kinda savage.

To answer @Arsonist I hope it will not be only a summoner and that he will be able to be more versatile and polyvalent. Also, I feel like we will see a support tree skill that can apply to friends and pets. A bit like with the Baroness in TPS whom could make a contract to take another player as her servant, Fl4k could ā€œpetā€ a player and make him/her enjoy a few buffs working with stacks. What do you think about that? WIll it not be fun to watch your friends with a collar and barking on demand? XD Why not having the stacks working like a competition between the pet and the friend? Depending on which pet you have the stack effect and the challenge will change, maybe like… tanking damage on health for the spider ant too gain elemental damage( to force your mate in the battle), for the skag… walking or running to gain next shoot/attack boost damage (penalty to stay still) and the monkey making crits to gain fire rate. If you fail passing a set amount of points the stacks goes for the pet and if you pass it you win it.

Their character bio describes everything: A wondering robot who always brings one of their 3 loyal pets into battle to buff stats and attack enemies. Their action skills let them send forth dive-bombing Rakk, teleport gamma burst irradiated pets through rifts, & even fade away to temporarily become invisible while moving faster and regenerating health.
Sounds like 1 pet will always be out & while out applying buffs to you. & your action skill once activated allows different effects to take place.

So there are pics of FL4K’s tree on a reddit post located here that show two of his skills.

you can also see his special(s) at the top of the tree, and the slots that FL4K uses. What it looks like to me is that each tree as TWO specials and you can equip one of each type from different trees? and two of the ā€œarrow pointing downā€ augments

looks like each tree is based around one of the three pets. three skill trees, three pets.

Well, I’m worried about FL4K’s balance if their pets are ALWAYS out, but I imagine GB has learned from their past mistakes when it comes to balance… right?

@ZippyBird - I really hope you are wrong! If all 3 skill trees are for individual pets that potentially leaves fewer points to upgrade FL4K with. I am hoping that 1 skill tree is exclusively for pets, 1 for FL4K and 1 to boost both. Can’t wait to find out. Doc.

How so?

I am worried that if a skill tree is assigned to each pet that there may be more skills for the pets than for FL4K and that could affect the balance of gameplay. I’m probably worrying about nothing but FL4K and Zane are the only characters I’m interested in playing and I just want FL4K to be a beast as well as his pets!

it looks like one of the action skills for each tree is for one of the three pets. On each tree there are ā€œalternativeā€ pets. As shown on the Jabber Sidekick image, the Jabber has a pistol and throws a radiation barrel, maybe the pet augments lower on the tree are to change that tree’s base pet (change weapon or barrel etc.)
I’m sure all the passive skills are for FL4K or at least similar to Gaige’s trees where the passive skills boosts both Gaige and Deathtrap. That is how I see FL4K as of right now, a more intricate version of Gaige who has a summon, both of which can grow stronger together.

From the first image, it can be seen that the green pet (I think Jabber, but can’t really tell) occupies a separate slot from the hexagon at the top of Fl4k’s tree – so we have an action skill, and a pet, and they don’t have to be from the same tree. However, because the ā€œarrow pointing downā€ augments (I’ll refer to them as chevrons from here on out) are in the same ā€œblockā€ as the hexagonal action skill icon, perhaps they must come from the same tree (like Zane’s & Moze’s augments)?

So my working theory is that Fl4k’s action skill behaves like a blend of Moze and Zane – you can mix & match the pet (diamond) and action skill (hexagon) between trees somewhat like Moze, but you can only augment the hexagon with chevrons from within the same tree. This begs the question of whether the pet(s) are always active, or only appear during action skill activation, and the second question — WHEN DO WE SEE HIS FULL TREE GBX PLEASE!

I love the idea of having my own personal Kong, even including the radiation xD

What I ask myself though: Why is that buff to Movement Speed so low? 5% is basically nothing. At least make it 25%, so that we actually feel a difference.

Nonetheless, I like what we have seen so far, be it not enough. But it was a leak, so we take what we get.

The hexagon action skill looks to be the invisibility action skill that allows health regen.

Well, there’s Zane and his kill skills…

Yeah, I really like that each character has a unique playstyle independent of the gear they may pick up (at least in the first playthrough. Never know how endgame is going to perform) and having Fl4k focus around his movement speed like Zane can would be… disappointing. On the other hand, I always appreciate at least some movement speed boosts, because all previews point towards even bigger maps.

Fl4k’s movement speed looks more about getting away from danger and into a better vantage point, whereas Zane’s is about getting into the Fr4y and staying there while causing chaos. So, I don’t see them as too similar there.
