After "The Collapse": Destiny General Discussion 2.0

Yeah Bungie are trying to balance it but I think the only way that can happen is if they actually removed it from PvP. May be Titans can have their class specific shotgun with greater range than Warlocks and Hunters since they don’t have Blink. Not sure if Gunslingers and Sunsingers will able to use them since I imagine these new weapons will be tied to their character rather than subclass. Blink will be made worse in laggy lobbies. Same thing happened with Commando in MW2.

I think from a community standpoint and given the current meta in PvP, this would be a profoundly bad idea. Giving a specific class it’s own weapon that furthers an issue (shotgun range) that many people believe adds to an imbalance would probably turn out as bad or worse than the collector’s edition debacle. My guess is that they’ll make some adjustments to the actual skill. How, I’m not sure. Blink is definitely a little on the OP side, even though I just started using it yesterday with my hunter and there is a bit of a learning curve. They also have new sub-classes on the way and while I’m hearing that Titans will, most likely, not be getting a Blink type perk of their own, I think the chances of some kind of Blink counter are good. Anyway, I don’t really think Blink fits with the idea of what a Titan is, so I’m fine that they don’t have it. Just me though.

The best way to deal with the “shotgun meta” is to have more maps that support other weapon variants more. Lack of enemy footstep sounds, small to medium maps that provide medium ranged engagements at best, and permanent radar will always favour CQC already. Players tend to dislike being OHK’d in shooters full stop so there’s that. If Destiny’s players on other sites can’t grasp that then they could go always play COD where only one or two weapon types are worth using.

Can’t disagree with any of that!

Got a second Gjallarhorn from the Crucible, this time in Iron Banner on Twilight Gap.

Here’s a shoutout to @Cayde_6 for letting me pick up the Hard Mode Templar checkpoint, my best run got him past half, but then I got screwed by a harpy. He’s going to go down before the reset, I can assure that.

Yeah I think I changed my mind. Nerf the ■■■■ outta shotguns in PvP. That range and OHKO ability is ridiculous.

I can’t wait for the balancing patch.

So…Templar was unsuccessful sadly, but I have some interesting news for mostly Xbox players, but Playstation may enjoy this too. There is a legendary hand cannon that with the right roll can become a mini Hawkmoon. The Fulcrum from Future War Cult with Luck in the Chamber, Final Round, and Braced Frame becomes a two shotting Crucible monster. Braced Frame brings the magazine to six as well as reduces recoil that Hawkmoon would normally have. Sureshot sight only makes it even better. The point is, this thing is absolutely awesome, and if you want Hawkmoon, give this a shot.

That would make people use hand cannons more. Shotguns are the only counter to hand cannons at close range since people complained about fusion rifles having too much range ages ago and now they are taking a metric ton of buckshot to their faces ever since. The kind of reminds when so many on Reddit said Thorn was junk, it got buffed through the roof, and now they are complaining about how strong it is. Also, the new Crucible maps are still overly favouring CQC so shotguns are still going to be prevalent. There’s no point in forcing people to use rifles in CQC. You might as well play COD then.

My ten pennith, you will always get people whinging about something that is getting them killed in pvp.
End of story.

One streamer I like to watch is called Triplewreck and I have to say he’s a pvp master compared to me but even hecomplains about people using shot guns.
He often gets a kd of 28/4 so what’s he got to complain about unless he doesn’t think he should die at all.
These op weapons give the cannon fodder like me a chance to at least get a few kills in a match.

Yeah I actually replied to TripleWRECK’s ‘campaign’ post on Reddit, although I never bothered to check to see if I had a response from him because his subscriber army would probably downvote me to oblivion. I think shotgun usage mainly boils down to how less attractive the other two options are.

I used to snipe a lot when the game launched but I’m more effective to my team with a shotgun. The reduction to special ammo also has hindered sniper rifles more than shotguns, which will be exaggerated if Field Scout gets hammered in the upcoming nerf, because not everyone can OHK all the time, whether it’s player accuracy, the rifle’s aim assistance, or the lack of OHK ability. And if you don’t have a snappy aim, you have to remain scoped in for longer, so you give away your position because of the scope glare. If you want to stay scoped in for a serious amount of time, you will need Third Eye, which means you need to use Patience and Time, sacrificing the ability to use an exotic primary, and you are a sitting duck to the enemy. You will be picked off even at close range because you can’t hear them coming. An alternative would be to give sniper rifles an ACOG scope, like the MIDA Multi-tool, but people will moan at that. I’d rather non-high skilled players try a sniper rifle and not suck at it so when the sniper rifle kill bounty comes, I’m not having to do extra killing due to teammates being less productive. And may be it will help players not to overuse a shotgun, since it’s not like we can practice against bots in a private game or anything.

Agreed. I think people will naturally figure out what works best and do it. In many/most cases, sniping isn’t as effective as CQC style play. Not that many sightlines (relative to other games at least).

Honestly, I’ve grown to be ok with Thorn. It’s fairly difficult to get and, as such, should be pretty powerful. The truth is, the better a shot you are, the faster you can kill w/ Thorn; But that’s true with any gun. I’m not an amazing shot, so I don’t get that two shot headshot very often. I’ve also noticed that I’m not really getting killed with Thorn all that much. They’re obviously planning to nerf it, but I think it’s still going to be a beast and that’s a good thing imo.

I’m kind in this boat too, lol. I don’t think shotties are OP from a damage standpoint though. FRom a range standpoint? Maybe. Still, I see it as a risk/reward scenario: if you can manage to get that close to an enemy or get the drop on them, a shotgun should be able to one-shot them at very close range.

Stayed up late last night and got my hunter to rank 5 in IB. I had never played the hunter in PvP before and really enjoyed it. Next time I’m thinking I might use my Warlock (which I’ve also never PvP’d with). Iron Banner has basically saved PvP for me. I’ve really enjoyed it the past few times.

So, little update on my progress / some questions. Hit Light Level 32 the other day, and now have all Legendary gear except for my Auto Rifle, and an Exotic helmet. Here’s a look at my current setup:

https://www.bungie.net/en/Legend/Gear/1/4611686018437385450/2305843009227904258

Few questions. Secret Handshake, good shotgun, yea? I’m loving it so far (and I absolutely hate shotguns in almost every other game), and the perks really seal the deal, but is there anything better out there? Also, any Auto Rifles I should be on the lookout for? I’m pretty happy with all the rest of my gear (unless someone has some better suggestions for any of it), but I can’t figure out how to get any of the Ascendant Materials I need to Ascend any of it. I do have a few different Ascendant Material types in my inventory, but none of them seem to be what I need for the gear that I’ve got.

It’s a good starter shot gun

As for being 32 but wanting more. Play the POE each week and it will spit you our an armor core that will give you 34 gear, 3 pieces plus an exotic and you have 34

ICYMI: Lots of big news out of Gamescom today:

http://www.gameinformer.com/p/thetakenking.aspx

TL;DR: Bye bye Dinklage, bye bye year one legendaries, RIP Vision of Confluence. :frowning:

Yes, for sure. Especially with the right perks.

There ya go.

As the meta stands now, The Party Crasher +1, Felwinter’s Lie, and the Matador sit at the top of the heap. That’s not including the Found Verdict which is arguably the best shottie in the game.

Hard to say right now. With TTK on it’s way and year one legendaries going bye-bye (see link above), I’d say go after anything exotic. Suros Regime was a favorite before the AR nerf and Hardlight and Nechrochasm are getting buffed (as are ARs across the board) w/ TTK/Patch 2.0.

Ascendent mats should only apply to pre-HoW weapons and armor. If you have Crota weps/armor, you’ll need “Radiant” mats to level those, which are found in the Crota raid.

Looking at your toon, it seems like you just need to get to ding the Nightfalls/PoE/Iron Banner and try to get some Etheric Light so you can get to 34. The rumor is that whatever your level is when you begin TTK, that’s where you’ll have to level from to get to the new lvl cap of 40. In other words, If you go in at 34, you’ll only have 6 levels to the cap, but if you go in at 32, you’ll have 8.

Good, he’s a damn good actor but holy moly was he utter ■■■■■ in this game.

You’re honestly the first person I’ve seen today with that opinion. I Don’t mean that in a bad way, just that I knew it was taken badly, but most people I saw were saying they liked him fine and would miss him.

That said, NOLAN NORTH HYPE.

I would have probably enjoyed Ghost hacking for 10 minutes every mission more if his voice had any ounce of enthusiasm coming out.

And h*ck yeah Nolan North.

Ran the nightfall and weekly with @Aether_Seraph last night, props to him he can sure pull a team
