They never said they would be credit gated.

The anger is understandable, until today credits were used to get loot and exclusive skins and taunts.

Pretty much everyone saved and used credits for that purpose as they were never claimed to have any other.

So why are you surprised people are angry? Intentionally playing dumb to troll or what?

Guess it’s a good thing they gave everyone two weeks warning to start saving then eh?

Outrage less please.

Personally I really like the option to pay for new heroes with credits. At least GBX gave us that option!!! There are many games were heroes were pay-only DLCs (Even if BL2+BL-TPS), so I welcome this approach.

My credits set dust rather fast, I´m one of those people to lazy for opening packs hour for hour…
Now I have a reason to grind even more ^^

Before this topic came up I remember people were complaining either about low-credit-gain OR not enough things to spend credits on… There´ll always be someone who is unpleased.

Thanks for the offer, but maybe do a give-away for a Season Pass on this forum or Reddit. I don’t even own Battleborn, I’ve been hesitant to pick it up.

All the heroes are free in Dota2 & HoN by the way. I don’t play either, but I know that much.

HoN is a cesspool of garbage now and DOTA2 has Valve/Steam backing it up making it capable of such a model.

GBX cannot afford to give a game away for free and hope people buy “hats”.

I recommend a give-away thread, some kind of lotto.

But HoN is / was really popular, being second in popularity to Dota2. And Hero progress unlocks? Cosmetic items? I don’t know. Either way.

Yea it’s for cosmetic gear and lotto sounds good anything you recommend since it was yours?

This is pretty typical, look at Street Fighter 5 and R6 Siege. You aren’t going to get new characters/whatever quickly and easily without paying in any of these games.

If they had made it challenge based, it would have still required a grind. It wouldn’t be something relatively simple like what most of the original cast required. Would making it, I dunno what group she’s with in game, but something like max ranking all existing characters in her group, be better? You are still looking at something that is going to take a while.

I feel like this is a bigger problem because we’re hearing it now, after most of us have probably saved up and spent our credits on gear packs instead of saving for the character. I have season pass so not a problem for me but imagine for others that sucks.

At least everyone has 2 weeks to save for it now

That’s 10 epic gear pack. If you aren’t ready to pay this for a new character, then maybe you don’t really want to play that character anyway, and should leave it to peoples wanting to play her?

Point to statements or drop it.
The only thing that I’ve seen Gearbox say is that “all future characters will be free; buy the season pass to unlock them instantly”.
Coupled with the fact that every single character can be unlocked by either:

  • A raw time investment (command rank)

  • A specific, non-monetary challenge (i.e., kill 50 enemies)

Logically, the update characters should’ve been behind the second. Perhaps Alani could’ve been like “win 20-25 matches as an eldrid character” or “get gold in all base missions on normal”.

Battleborn is an AAA priced game.
HOTS is free to play and requires no monetary investment to try.
“Heroes” are not some transferable standard with a fixed value like you’re making them out to be.

Again, career challenges.
Once those dry up, the rates slow significantly.

I dunno. Make a thread like “Season Pass giveaway” then you explain people to post there with a random number between say 1 and 1000, then use a Random Number Generator to pick one. First one to pick the RIGHT number gets it. People can only POST ONCE.

The free season pass does tempt me to pick up the game, as it’s only 28$ on CD keys, but still…rocky future. You’re very generous though.

Nope some cost $3 some cost $15 depends on which one you want to add to your permanent hero roster

You don’t have to pay any real money for them hence free also the product speaks louder than words in reference to the ctt requiring in game money

They did say characters could be purchased in-game. Could be worse, could cost us $5 dollars percharacter. Do i think 47k is a bit steep, yes. 25-30k seems more reasonable. But at least the characters are free. You just have to spend time getting there.

A little belatedly, yes and no. If you own the season pass you get unlock tokens that allow you to unlock any character in the game - including the new ones - for free. These are refundable, so that if you spend one to unlock somebody, and then unlock them through in-game methods, you get your unlock token back to use on another character. Not sure how this will work with credit-unlocked characters - maybe spending the credits gets you your token back?

Either way, I was a little surprised by the price, but not in the outrage sort of way I’m seeing bits of. Just, ‘wow that’s sort of high’ and then shrug. Part of this probably is because I have the season pass, I’ll admit, but as a lot of people have mentioned it’s not unreasonable when compared to other MOBA-style games, and claiming that just because those games are FTP the same standards can’t apply seems… I dunno, the logic doesn’t mesh for me. I do agree that maybe they should’ve warned us earlier that new heroes would require credits to unlock, though?

The season pass is pretty cheap compared to other games recently, lord. $50 for a season pass when the game was $60? $20 for Battleborn’s feels incredibly reasonable. But I also think there’s a decent chance that the high credit cost is, as previously mentioned, a price wall to stop the character being flooded just because it’s new, and maybe they will do like other MOBA’s and the character will get cheaper when the next unlockable comes out. It was all only just announced, I’d wait and see what happens before getting too angry about things, everybody.
