I normally use Deande/Mellka, but the previous matches I kept getting quitters and AFKers so I picked a character that could hold her own. Not to mention, it’s not a reason to insult people. I’ve had to fight her plenty of times.
they need to either lower the damage output of that beam that auto locks, or shrink its effective distance. People will run away but they will be like 3 Montana lengths away (factual unit of measurement) and I am still hurting them. You cant start the beam close but it continues at a greater distance than where it begins.
I think lowering the distance is a great start to balancing her. As it stands, the only way to kill her is ranged with Marquis/Thorn or a jab and run tactic with Mellka/Deande (or of course teamwork).
Benedict and Galilea work really well against her. Benedict can just fly out of beam range and either escape or hit rockets from high ground, Galilea can stun her out of her beam and slow her healing which is nice 1v1. Other than that it usually boils down to “Ambra’s on me pls help”. Needs a drop in healing from her staff and maybe a little damage nerf too, nothing that makes her a pushover but enough to make her easier to deal with 1v1. Something to make her more support-y like Miko who can still hit hard but the healing is more helpful than the damage.
Still don’t think she’s nearly as OP 1v1 as Phoebe was in the CTT though.
The damage is fine, it’s how consistent the damage/healing is. It makes her overly oppressive.
If that beam shut down after a couple seconds and forced her to cool the staff down with the various ways the game already has in place to expend heat buildup - it changes the way she plays completely.
To emphasize how dumb Ambra is. My friend played a game of Ambra and only used her life steal beam. His ending stat line was 10 kills 5 deaths and 7 assists
Hope they fix Ambra fast. She really ruins the game atm, makes every round against her a sure lose.
My idea is to give her a slow while use her auto attack beam. everyone slows down while use auto, accept her…As Melka i have to use both of my skills to dodge and than insta sprint for a good while to escape my sure death…
I’ll start by saying Ambra is fine, the problem is player skill and and people wanted character vs character balance. You want to nerf the already low damage and/or healing of a character who can’t defend herself any other way than to let her passive go off when she’s low and run away?
Then the trend starts and no one plays Ambra, Ben, Marq, Galilea because no one wanted to learn how or what counters these characters and they stay crippled till gearbox reads the data and and sees they are underplayed.
People are dying because they aren’t killing or standing near sunspots, which is a healing, damaging, and debuffing ability that has a set low lifespan and even destroyable by random AoEs. Tactics and character understanding needs to be accessed before calling out nerfs. She is also a melee and close range “mage” with no really killing power she has to be around you for quite a few tics before you die or get a few levels and cool down reduction to get two orbs out or hide them and spend two cool downs getting two untouched unused orbs out to hope someone comes in their range.
I agree with everything after the first comma.
Ambra is mostly fine. But players do need to not play into her strengths (i.e.- stand in the middle of her shit)
She actually plays better if you don’t just use the beam and expend heat, the staff beam does very low damage compared to the 2x to 3x bonuse damage you get when using her staff to strike and on top of that get crits.
Which is why itd be fine for them to nerf the beam damage or uptime…currently she just floats around beaming requiring no forethought or manual dexterity required i.e “Brain-neutral” but effective gameplay.
Atleast with melee there is risk involved in getting blown up for mistakes.
But she is in melee range and just a little outside of melee range for the beam to work. The same issues Rath runs into she does but Rath has various CC she has weak healing with that lifesteal as sustain to try to outlast foes who don’t play against her correctly.
Eh a half-truth at best…im not sure about the start-up range (outside of traditional melee for sure), but once locked the beam stretches at least 10 “feet” from the character.
Same with Oscar Mike, point and shoot.
So I played Ambra a lot… and she can wreck shop, like my k/d average is 20-1 and I usually score the most with her. However, I can get that score with 75% of the roster.
I’m not bragging, it’s just that I have a 5K hours sunk into games like DOTA2 and LOL and I can say for every character there are counter strategies. Here are two things to consider:
-
You have to know when to attack and when to leave.
She isn’t immortal and her auto attack isn’t really that powerful solo. When you attack other heros you aggro the creeps who sap your shield, attract turret damage, not to mention the other hero’s potshotting you from afar. If you are alone and fighting you are taking that risk of dying anyway, so stay with your team, creeps or near turrets. Because her autoattack stays on and does DOT, one might think she’s OP but when you step back and think, everything is hitting you, then you have low health, then you try to escape and you’re dead… all because you didn’t run when you could, you have to know when to run and that takes time to learn. -
Have your priorities straight.
I lure people into bloodlust all the time, they see low health and want a kill so badly they can’t help themselves. So… they put themselves in a bad position to get a small win. My point is, with ambra, she will always hang back and sap health. She will be so focused on killing someone, that she won’t notice you skipping the main fight and targeting her. I kill ambra’s like nobody’s business because they don’t pay attention to their health. Atticus, El Dragon and Ghalt can supremely punish people with bad positioning.
As a side note: always target sunspots when you see them, two hits to kill or so, she’s neutered. If she is auto attacking you, get to a turrent, near creeps, or just get away then re-engage. Normally, I don’t play heros without some kind of escape, mobility in moba’s is super important.
LOL and DOTA2 have huge rosters of heros and there can be some slipups with the meta game from time to time, but at 25 heros, I think the dev team has done a great job at making it balanced.
I think the main problem for Ambra should be “Auto-Lock Attack.”
As a FPS games, it likes cheater.
Ambra’s DPS is too high? it just caused by the Auto-Locking.
I literally googled battle born ambra needs to be nerfed that’s how bad she needs to be nerfed
The people that don’t want her to be nerfed are the people playing as her
The people that want her to be nerfed are the people taking her on almost killing her then she use sunspot and she’s healing, attacking you literally op
This was the same issue with the Rose in PVZ Garden Warfare 2. She had high damage output, survivability and her attack had the same type of heat seeker projectile. I’m hoping they make Ambra a little more skill based or something!
I know she was nerfed after this post was made, but holy sh*t. She is still able to deal crazy damage and outlast me when I play as ISIC. Heavens only know how the rest of my team fared against her (was with randoms).
Also, her leech beam apparently can’t be stopped by ISIC’s rotating wards OR his Aegis.
I am going to have to disagree with you on this. I think Ambra is at a happy place for balance. First off, Isic is a support/tank and shouldn’t be able to outlast a character whose entire build is based on life-leech. You shouldn’t even be trying. I am going to make the assumption that you think Rath is overpowered for the same reason. Secondly, if you don’t know how the rest of your team faired, even if they were pugs, you weren’t paying much attention to the game. This isn’t a game where you can run in with pugs, ignore them, and expect to do well. Battleborn requires teamwork and attention regardless of who you are facing.
Crying for character nerfs because you can’t 1v1 a character on a specific Battleborn is a pretty absurd notion. There are characters you shouldn’t be able to take down with Isic and certain characters who can’t do anything about him. As a Montana player, I have to rely on my team to take certain melee characters off me early game and the people I play with know to watch for those characters. Eventually, we trade positions when I get my knockup and Mansformation, allowing me to cover them and body block opponents when necessary. On the same note, I can’t deal with Marquis at ALL with Montana because I am a standing headshot. Does that mean Marquis is overpowered because he can shoot me with such accuracy and damage? Of course not! It’s his thing! It just means I have to play smarter than him and have a better coordinated team who knows what they are doing!
The characters are designed to allow for malleable builds. If you normally skip a knock-up or stun in favor of more damage, maybe you consider going with the CC level instead if you are fighting Ambra. Make sure the team knows to focus her down (as any team should be doing against a healer) and let them know when you are going in for the CC. This is basic for a MOBA and this game is basically a kick ass fast paced MOBA!
I hope we can stop over-reacting when a character seems “too good” because we can get a lot of kills against a full PUG team or because they pwned our whole team. This is more indicative of skill and teamwork than balance, regardless of how much you want to believe you are that good.
