I was recently reading the Wiki articles on some of the MCU films, and Whedon mentioned that:
They’re very disparate characters. The joy of the Avengers is they really don’t belong in the same room. It’s not like the X-Men, who are all tortured by the same thing and have similar costumes. These guys are just all over the place.
It occurred to me that this describes the Battleborn precisely. The Factions aren’t all buddy-buddy. I’d bet NOBODY likes the LLC - they’re vultures who feed off the blood and suffering of others. Similarly, it’s hard to imagine anything other than a very uneasy alliance between the Peacekeepers (cops) and Rogues (thieves/scavengers). And of course the Eldrid hate the Jennerit.
We see echoes of these dynamics in the character dialogues and lore, though obviously Gearbox takes their drama and character development much less seriously than does Whedon with the MCU films. But it’s a similar dialectic - enemy of my enemy and all that. The oft-cited simmering rivalry between Deande and Mellka - who obviously become friends and comrades by the story’s end - might be the biggest profile example.
Not really a lot of substance here, just my musing that the story of Battleborn is a genuinely cool one, and the relationships between the characters (and their origins) is more complex than you readily get a sense of just seeing them run around and shoot/hack at each other.

I like the LLC. They were the first faction I mastered.

I don’t think this should count because he’s referring to the MCU which is literally nothing like the actual avengers who have perfect synergy.
The only MCU avenger who is anything like his comics version is Thor. Everyone else is basically in name only strangers

Pretty sure he means in universe, lol. Just like people would hate the idea of for-profit firefighters (which existed in both Rome as well as the early US; they’d show up at your blazing home and tell you that, for a nominal fee, they’d be perfectly willing to put out the fire).
Also, doesn’t the LLC sell robots to Rendain (Minion Robotics) so they’re quite literally profiting of off and helping to end the universe?

This is why I’ve always ranked the characters in this game higher than the ones in OW.
In OW, the characters do have their back stories and so forth, but they seem a little too perfect, almost to the point of Mary Sue territory. They feel more like idols that are supposed to be admired and worshiped. They just feel so “bleh”.
The characters in BB though, I’ve always felt like you could hang out with these guys, get drunk, wake up the next morning with a hangover and then get called into a meeting with Ghalt, who’s asking why Kleese’s Battle Throne has been crashed into the side of NOVA, while Kleese himself is raging in the background.

That’s very true. A lot of the Battleborn are flawed characters and some of them wouldn’t even be one of the good guys were the situation not as grim as it is. Their stories are some of the more interesting. I hope we get more background about the Battleborn over time. I like unlocking lore for each character but I hope there will be more in the future.

I wouldn’t doubt that they had sold robots to rendain. He could have also acquired them an illegal way also, who knows. But yes they are assisting in destroying the universe since they built ISIC and he wont stop his work on the algorithm.

The resolution to this story would be NOVA’s embarrassed confession that MINREC sent over a copy of his eLibido subroutine via email, and NOVA uploaded it to the Battle Throne, and the two were, ahem, experimenting with new hardware configurations.
(I mean, come on. You just know NOVA loves the bad boys.)

I found this more funny than I’d like to admit.

So It wasn’t an actual quote about the game from Joss. Just something he said about something else that you felt matched the game.
Pretty misleading thread title.

An insight about the Battleborn ftom the late Steve Jovs: Technology is helpful.

It took me a moment to even understand what you meant.
The title just means Joss’s words inspired the insight. Not that he directly spoke about Battleborn. If you honestly feel like the title’s a troll, I’m willing to change it.

I got legit chills when I read Alani’s lore dealing with Ambra’s first encounter with Alani.
The characters are absolutely amazing, IMO.
And yeah, they are a rag tag band of characters who are having troubles getting along to save the universe! Or…uh…what’s left.
That’s where PvP comes in. I just think of PvP as simulator rooms in the ship to just hash it out with each other and let their frustration go so they can work together.

I think LLC and Ferengi use the same rules.
- Never place friendship above profit.
- War is good for business.
- Peace is good for business.
- Dignity and an empty sack is worth the sack.
