There is no denying that you feel that it is an undesirable solution, and I can see your point of view. You might not find it enjoyable to farm everything again as it is an uncertainty and would potentially be too time consuming. That is perfectly fine and reasonable. However, your personal willingness to make a hard choice doesn’t eliminate the existence of the choice.
The simple fact is that any player can decide what gear they wish to use and what OP level (or lack thereof) they wish to play on at an given point. The availability of this choice definitely makes this a non-issue. The fact that some players may be unable to exercise self-restraint, the willingness to adapt/change, patience, and/or common sense (myself included) is a separate matter entirely (that statement was not directed at you but instead a generalized statement).
I think we have a disagreement on terminology, really. I accept your proposal is a possible choice, but I don’t really think it’s a non-issue, for the reasons stated above. It’s quite tough I think for many people to throw away gear earned in more than two thousand hours of gameplay!
Fair enough, although I don’t think all people would find it hard to get rid of stuff they farmed. This would vary from person to person.
You could also just trade for the gear that you want as opposed to having to farm it if you preferred to do so. There are countless internet resources for players to contact each other to trade and/or give away gear.
However, that potentially opens up a whole new can of worms for some people.
I enjoy playing on OP8 but feel that TVHM should scale to level 72 so the casual player isn’t forced into UVHM. Or if they would just remove the enemy health regeneration in UVHM so damage over time becomes relevant again.
I dislike OP levels because of the chore of farming gear, running the peak, running a harder peak with sub-level gear, farming more gear… I decided to take one character to OP levels, and coaxed one of my friends to take one of his (he has all six of his characters at 72), as well. I’ve since seen him playing 72 with that character, using all his old 72 gear. He simply enjoys life more at that levels, and any gear on one character can be used by any other that way. I believe that he also leveled another character to OP8 while playing with a friend in the Peak, but he keeps that at 72, as well. He only plays OP with me because he’s being nice. Gotta love him…
