Are we just gonna pretend that Marquis isn't worthless now?

Haha. Are you saying that beta Ambra was weaker than current Ambra? Cuz that’s utterly hilarious. She was the strongest character quite possibly the game has ever had. Benedict was buffed to correct how hard he was to play. Now some people think he’s too bad. He’s definitely not over performing now. You just likely see more of him. And Boldur didn’t appear to the devs in stats that much for a few simple reasons. He’s tough to play, so most people drop him. Most didn’t play him. And he doesn’t put out high damage or kills. He just takes a lot. The game doesn’t have a real way to track damage absorbed by shield. Galilea’s mutations they admit were a mistake. I have no answer on that front lol

Beta Ambra was a bit better, but Ambra has gone back to ridiculously good again.
And I think Gally has always been the most broken character(pre-nerf), stronger than Ambra def. (She still has too much going for her though. Getting off-topic… Derp.)

Anyways, I’m simply going to agree that Marquis is a bad pick now. He may be one of the worse characters in the game now… Damage is all he had, his skills aren’t that interesting but that was the balance of Marquis. Maybe his Einz, Zwei, Die damage buff was a bit too much, but I say… Bring it up to 35%!
I honestly think that Toby is a better choice now in every way possibly.

You just haven’t met a beast of a Toby player Ike @Tehh_Hamster. He doesn’t need the shield to take down enemies easily. Your whole team can try to focus on him and he will find a way to kill 1-2 and escape alive.

Sounds like me! However, i’ve admittedly turned my back on PVP (possibly for good), because i’m just too impatient to wait for a match; i’ve got the ADH-

-runs off to chase a butterfly-

Ghalt can be posted at chokepoint and (my) Toby can still deny the lane with teammates even halfway covering tunnel or perch.

Even good Ghalts, or great Ghalts, or the best Ghalt - they aren’t gonna shut down Toby. It doesn’t happen that way, especially once Toby is 7/8 with Heartpiercer and double shield HP.

I’d have a tougher time with ISIC or Thorn

Playing as ISIC I took great amounts of pleasure reflecting those fat rail shots back into tobies shield

I was giving Toby a rough time as Shayne last night. Fetch counts his force field as a shield so I could stun him through it. He didn’t like that lol

S&A is such an easy target though, I’m doubting that Toby knew how to remain calm.

Marquis, however, HAS to escape in these situations now. Close-range quickscoping isn’t threatening anymore, much like the rest of his kit these days.

the only thing I’ve found to work as marquis is using his legendary/chronokey to make his cooldowns incredibly short. once I hit level 5 i’m blasting my ult regularly

I don’t share your belief in their data.

What if they don’t find he is UP? Just don’t find, like they didn’t notice Kleese had almost twice less health than he was supposed to have - for three months. Why? Why didn’t they notice such a massive discrepancy? Maybe he wasn’t that bad even with low health? Then, why did they fix it as it is, without thinking how that massive buff can affect balance?

Kleese’s health was bugged. They fixed it. That said they may or may not be keeping it as is based on the data they collect. The bug and its subsequent fix had nothing to do with balance changes. None of us here know what the developers are planning to do with Kleese at this point. Are they thinking about changing his health? His shields? His taser damage and/or reach? We don’t know. They may think he’s fine or they may decide that based on data something needs to be adjusted. They probably won’t tell us until it’s all live and in the patch notes unless Grant or another one of the devs is allowed to share some data with us again before that time. It all depends on what the publishers at 2K and the marketing people at Gearbox decide to do.

Ghalt is every high damagers counter really. Ernest, Kleese, he kills those who kill safely.

Lol it seems like you just wanna use Chronokey on everyone these days. Did you have it before the nerf?

It was a very difficult fix that likely took them months of work. In the meanwhile, they made sure that in beta and such he’d still be viable with strong healing and such. They took that out and replaced it with proper health. It appears they didn’t know why he was strong before though

I did not, but it works so well for me that I fell in love with it

One time with me as Miko and him as Rath, he obstinately claimed that he really had healed for over 5k (I use all heal power)

As a Toby main before all the changes, my biggest threats were Thorn, Marcheese, and Benedict, nowadays it is Thorn and Benedict, with Marquis still being an annoyance for me, but not as bad as a while back

Oh no, if the bug was that big, balance should be taken in account during its fix. At the lauch they told us they will implement balance fixes in small changes precisely to avoid big changes. But we’ve seen number of heavy buffs/nerfs already.

Yup, exactly. We don’t know, they don’t tell us, and through these four months balance had some pretty heavy and unnecessary changes. Now I don’t have reasons to believe in their almighty data or that its use will surely lead to good results. Do you? Other than “they must have to know better because they are devs”? Devs always have their own vision, and they also have some internal reasons that limit their capacity to do some things, especially if they are limited in development resourses.

Any link?

Anyway, if you are going to almost double someone’s HP, you should ask yourself - isn’t it too much? Because it is. And together with the fix of the bug his health should have taken a nerf - to minimize the chance of overpowering him.

Sometimes devs give stupid buffs/nerfs to keep the hero cycle moving. You know… buff A to make B the counter of A more viable. Or nerf C who has been the number 1 for month, now that C is not a problem D can shine.

Example:
kleese gets the hp buff, now shield penetration hélix seems a bit more appealing, but without a way to know that the other team is going to use kleese we cant get a shield pen loadout.

Marquis got nerfed making big charactersore aviable.

Well atleast thats what i think…
