Am I the only one who feels like being able to pause the game in solo play is cheating?
I think this might be in part why skill trees are disabled. I think GB just didn’t want you to have to fiddle with too many menus while on the clock. Most of us have kinda forgotten that there are a DIZZYING amount of stats and synergies that you could potentially have to comb through in order to min/max your build.
I would personally be happy with just our action skills being available even as a consumable drop and skill trees still being disabled or only accessable via whatever class mod drops you find.

I could almost get behind this stance if it was possible to buy the purple skill trees and arms race separately.
Also, speaking for myself, my griping about AR comes mostly from the feeling that I like the core idea, and I want to enjoy it, so I wish to see improvements made.
Very likely part of the reasoning. I feel like the circle could move just a little bit slower in general anyway, but I like your idea of getting skills from drops in some way. Maybe throw some augments, capstones, and 1-point gamechangers in the pool too. And they’d probably need to make an exception for Iron bear and make his duration shorter in arms race.

What I envision is perhaps a system similar to the energy mechanic from Warframe. Enemies occassionally drop orbs of energy that fills a meter and your different skills require a certain amount of energy to activate. In the context of Borderlands, you could drop in with only a single charge of your action skill (one that you choose from the onset). After it is used, it will not recharge on it’s own. Instead you must collect drops to charge it up. Iron Bear would require more energy to charge than a phasegrasp or mantis cannon activation etc…
I would also have each vault hunter drop in with zero ammunition and dramatically increase the cost of ammo refills at the ammo dump (Marcus is kind of a dick like that…) which could help balance out the Tediore spam tactics.
Personally, I always hated Warframe’s energy system making the very use of skills tied to RNG. Unlocking them, sure, we roguelike now, but once I have it, gimme a clear-cut way to use it or save it for later.
I like the way Gunfire Reborn does it, periodically offering a simple, quick choice of upgrades to the player. I made a mock-up of what it could be like in another post:
Given how short Arms Race runs are, this should probably only offer from the most impactful skills, capstones and the like.

Mayhem does affect Arms Race but given the different scaling and the lack of all the flashy modyfiers it is barely noticeable, aside from increased enemy hp. The difference between normal and M11 feels like normal vs. old M3 or 4. Strangely it seems Harker goes down just as easily as ever.
Say, does anybody know if the achievement for 100 extracted items has to be done on the same character? Because after over 100 items I still don’t have it.
I read that it only counts when you’re the host but I always have my game set to only invitations so that should count, right?
Please don’t tell me it doesn’t counts the gear that exceeds the bank, then I would have to start from pretty much zer0.
Is there a way to track this somehow? Because as far as I could tell there are no new challenges, wether for Arms Race or the new action skills.
Oh and ■■■■ these Maliwan hounds, they’re even more annoying than in the main game. The only thing that is a danger to me in Arms Race. I hate it when they are just endlessly circling around you

Go to the challenge section on the map and it’ll show your current progress towards that particular quest .
Also I completed it playing co op where I wasn’t the host .

I do prefer rogue-like games with some sort of “boost for next time”. I do see the pro/con of what they did here. The balance of arms race is “perfect” and they don’t need to make it any harder based on players with more skill points or more guardian rank, etc…
I would like to see alternative modes to play on the arms race map.

They could have enabled your skills but disabled the page, for instance.

I got gifted season 2 so I gave arms race a try. It’s pretty much what I expected which is nothing much. Seems to me like it’s mostly a mode for gathering data about gun performance and preferences if anything.
I find losing action skills to be incredibly dull. Skill trees I could understand but without action skills either every vault hunter performs exactly the same. There’s nothing inside the mode that would set them apart either like a possibility to unlock points in random skills or unlock one of your 3 AS randomly or something. BTW Fl4k keeps talking to their pet at the beginning even though it’s not there. It feels a bit too barren when the guns you happen to get are the only thing that sets anything apart.
The enemy spawns have little variance but IMO could be more. Would’ve liked to see some bots in here, both the promethea models and the loaders and surveyors from DLC1 to add some robots beside Maliwan dogs. We have spiderants and skags with every other flavor of beast missing from action. I’ve never been a huge fan of guardians but hell, why not throw a rare guardian into the mix too for good measure. I only did a few runs so I might’ve missed some enemy type, like I’ve only seen a Maliwan sphere once and if it wasn’t for that I wouldn’t know they’re there at all.
Variety complaint also goes for the boss. It’s always the same boss in the same arena. Already by my 5th kill I was hoping for different arenas and different bosses so I wouldn’t know exactly what’s waiting for me until I got there.
On my very second run I softlocked into the water treatment facility. I did notice a NOG just seemed to disappear so I guess that caused me to get stuck in the pit with the ladder being locked and chest unavailable even though their red dot also disappeared from the map. I was not impressed.
The maps pretty cool although I would like it if it wasn’t so monotone. One problem with the very map itself however is that placing custom markers on it seems a bit buggy. Trying to place custom markers anywhere near the middle has them float way above and if you placed them in any kind of map angle it’s probably way off of where you intended. The only thing up there is the starting room yet this happens if your marker is nowhere near it.
Also on a sidenote I like the idea of HOT Spring grenade but why does it not cause a sphere of healing to appear where it impacts instead of this ground based area? My very first reaction when seeing that was to see what happens if I throw it against walls or any kinds of elevations and lo and behold, it just disappears if it hits anything too high above the ground. Not a huge deal but still, took me whole 30 seconds from equipping it for the first time to finding this…

Right before you dropped into the hole, did the periphery of your screen get a weird black effect? I think those are a known pair of enemies that may spawn before you go into that fight. If you don’t drop them before the fight, they’ll follow you down. They don’t always spawn though.

Sometimes they get lost fighting skags n spiderants; so i fought the boss and 5 minutes after killing it they showed up (3 - 2 with shields) each dropped a dlc item though
I don’t own the dlc or play the game atm but I guess it’s because you always get some legendaries from this dlc in arms race and other legendary drops are rare? Do you always get 2-3 legendaries from vase game when you run arms race or maybe just one if you’re lucky?

I get a minimum of 2-3 new legendaries per run and often more if I go for as many chests as possible.
The new legendaries are far more common. I’ve seen 2 of the exact same gun in the same chest more than once. That’s probably my biggest complaint. Oh, that and I lost the first and only Boogeyman I’ve seen to a fatal error crash… >:/

I got a star helix the other night and it absolutely wrecked everything. Shame for the murdercane I wanted to go pillage the full map.
Tina’s trippy hopper wrecked everything as well.
I’ve had a few legendary shields drop but only those 2 weapons I can think of.
Arms race items, I’ve had at least 1 copy of everything drop except a holy grail
Does anyone know once you kill the boss can you restart arms race without going back to sanctuary?

Yeah…this is absolutely absurd. My load times suuuuuuuuuck because I have to disable texture streaming in order to iron out a lot of the stuttering.
