Once you beat the boss in arms race, you have to start all over and usually you’ve gotten nothing you wanted. What if it takes you to round two?!?! Enemies get twice as hard and you have to fight two bosses at the end or maybe a new one! Your gear all carries over and you get to activate one action skill! This would give us the feeling of progress that we play the game for. Any hope of something like this?

I’d be happier if they just dropped it - it’s awful to play and unrewarding.
It takes everything bad about a BR and combines it into what is arms race. It’s a frustrating, unrewarding, time consuming slog that takes half of what makes borderlands fun completely away
It’s slightly more tolerable and fun in multiplayer - but this games multiplayer is broken.

This is the way I’d like to see arms race expanded. Award a skill point or two each round until a full build is achieved, then have a raid boss at the end.

I’d rather have a simple vendor with Arms Race Currency then chests and the boss would drop this currency, guaranteed. The vendor sells Arms Raced dedicated loot. This takes away the fact that you HAVE to focus on a specific chest for looting. This would straight up be the easiest and simplest thing to implement for the devs and would remedy a lot of grinding issues.
In all reality though, I would drop the Murdercane mechanic and instead do a Mayhem type scaling of enemy difficulty (minus Mayhem modifiers and weapon scaling of course) that increases the longer you are playing. So similar to the Murdecane where it closes in on you ever 3 minutes or whatever but instead of that mechanic, switch it so enemies naturally increase in difficulty–such as +25% HP & +5% Damage.
From here, have Class Mods drop and be capable of being equipped. You will also have the ability to use any Skill at its base form. To go a bit further, you will get random perks to fill out your Skill Tree as time goes on (this could be an additional XP bar shared by the group).
In the end, you can stay as long as you want but you risk losing your loot and Arms Race Coins (or percentage of that you did not extract) if you die. So it maintains the risk vs reward but scraps the concept of being stuck to go to specific chests for dedicated loot.
And if we want, can go a bit further where after maybe 15 minutes, Murdercane can show up but it won’t actually shrink in size but more shift around the map. Allowing you to still grind but does increase the difficulty a little more with environmental hazards by limiting mobility around the map.
For me , legendaries from Arm’s race need to be guarenteed play 5hours of Arm’s Race to not get what you what … , all the weapons need a buff , Torgue , Hyperion … is just bad , some Dahl weapons but overhaul the weapons needs a buff
More Legendaries from Chest maybe like 15-20% for red chest , i just want to not play for nothing , arm’s race is just a " fun " game but not feel rewarded enough

@cailte This is what I assumed Arms Race would be when it originally was announced. It would have a small amount of internal leveling per AR run and would allow you to spec/try certain skills that were either completely new or perhaps a conglomeration of the existing VH’s skills (sort of like Randomizer maybe?).
Frankly, anything to give it more replay value than it has presently.

There’s a ton of potential there to make it fun and some great ideas mentioned in this thread. I think it would be cool if instead of dropping in hot you started in like a diamond key room with a selection of greens/blues including relics and COMs and had a few minutes to choose your gear. Take the scramble and rng out and let players focus on the actual gameplay when it starts. Could also have timed objectives with rewards based on how fast you finish instead of running from a murdercane the whole time.

I don’t think they’re going to do any major redux to Arms Race so I really hope they just stop putting new things in it.
Really disappointed half of the new DLC loot is locked behind it. There’s a lot that could be done to make arms race better but I doubt it will ever happen.

I miss using the Rogue Sight. It was just enough to get you rolling. Not worth using on final boss.

Arms Race as it is is a great concept. I really enjoy playing it. If they decide to flesh it out in future dlc or BL4, I hope they take some inspiration from Enter the Gungeon. Randomised bosses and multiple levels per run.
Aside from that, I’m interested to see whether the cartel spawn mechanic will feature in arms race. If so, I feel like that could be a pretty rewarding way to farm cartel gear.

@cailte I feel like that is kind of the problem with Arms Race in general - it is a fantastic concept, just not a fully fleshed-out game mode. Maybe it is something they would be able to expand upon in the future and I definitely would like to see that. My personal issue with it is that as paid content, I find it lacking. I just felt like it needed more. It feels half-baked to me.
That’s just me though. And I am not trying to further bust on GBX as people seem to love doing on the forums lately. I just didn’t feel like it was all that well thought-out as far as what they wanted it to be. The overall idea was good, but they just didn’t cook it long enough. It could have been amazing, but as it stands, it’s basically just a means to an end (i.e., to get the AR-exclusive gear).

I agree. I’m not one for Gearbox bashing either, but I’m always up for providing constructive feedback.

@cailte You would think BL3 was a complete failure in all ways if all you saw was these forums. It appears to be getting out of hand to me. I am kind of tired of it frankly.
But back on-topic - I really feel like Arms Race could use either its own skill tree that would be common to all VH’s, or perhaps some sort of Guardian Rank perks of its own that would provide little boosts that would make it either easier to complete Arms Race, that would make it easier to score Arms Race gear, or that would somehow vary up the experience with different bosses and different drops or something.
As it is, Arms Race is basically the same thing over and over. Get MIRV Tediore or good Maliwan pistol and win.

Right with ya.
More class mod drops would even be enough. Artifacts seem plentiful, but even a couple of skill points would be a game changer, and give the VHs back some of their identities.
GR perks could be a bonus from chests opened.

Arms race need new maps and enemies, it becomes repetitive too fast.

First i do not own SP2
When they first released news about it and it’s “story” i thought they would actually went on and do something with the manufacturer gimmicks…
It’s supposed to be a game show right? So i thought about sponsorships
Something like, you start out choosing your sponsor (for example jakobs) all gun drops are jakobs and the legendary rewards are jakobs guns. Seeing jakobs doesn’t have shields or anything else… Secondary sponsor
or just RNG on shields and artifacts.
So, arms race being just a map where you collect weapons at random and enemies staying pretty much the same every time wasn’t my cup of tea.
That and the skill trees where to late (at that point in time i rather had a new vault hunter or even an old one like krieg or gaige getting added)
Also M2.0 ruined the fun for me in this game.
So atm i’m still not convinced on buying SP2, if they manage to balance out the guns and difficulty scaling i’ll probably come back and buy it… However i’m not seeing that happen any time soon

It probably wouldnt happen at this point, nor make much sense lore wise I guess, but I always wanted themed arms race maps. Like, instead of playing the same boring and bland grey map on Pandora, we could select one set on Eden-6. Enemies would be a lot of the ones from there aswell, like the Jabbers, Dinosaurs, with Cov enemies. The same with Promethea and possibly Nekrotafeyo.
Hell, they could all share the same layout, but the same exact enemies, in the same spots, on a single bland map gets old real quick.

@KeepItBacon They wouldn’t even have to do every map or anything like that. Just take 4 or 5 subsections of maps. A map like the Anvil (for example) would work with this concept very well IMO for the entire map, actually.

Best idea ever imho. Many times I start a game, look at the map and be already annoyed because the only chest I’m interested in is unavailable.
