I was lucky enough to be chosen to play the CTC, partook in the gaming during the open beta, and picked up the game day one. Battleborn was one of the first games in a while that has caught my attention significantly. The CTC showed off some of the best aspects of the game. It contained the classic writing that is akin to games made by gearbox. The gameplay was smooth and crisp. There were characters that needed obvious reworking and those characters received that and the balancing was done very well. The beta showed the same aspects. Crisp gameplay, great writing, and a great replay value.
Despite all of this, the full game just doesn’t stand up to the same standard that the beta and CTC had. Character boxes cause constant collision issue that reminds me more of a call of duty game. The hit detection is more “hit and miss” detection, often times players are standing still and critical points will not proc a critical hit. Story missions are nearly unbeatable if played with a group of five and easier to complete alone. Matchmaking is nearly impossible to play alone without a draft pick, and if you do play alone you’re more likely to lose because of getting placed against a group of 5.
All in all, it’s just little things that (in my opinion) make a huge difference, and if they we’re fixed sooner rather than later would seriously increase the longevity of this game.
