Nice showcase of Athena’s melee ability. Have you tried a Ravager or Torguemada instead of the Slapper? I think you would excel with one of those instead.

Thanks
. I’ve tried running a Torgue shotgun (the double barrel one, quad barrel’s magazine runs out too fast for my liking). But, I’m not comfortable with the fact that, in most instances, I will not be close enough to hit with all pellets when I am in FFYL. As you saw with the Slapper, it is most efficient given ideal conditions, and I was able to get crits with it at low-mid range while in FFYL.
This is so situational though. You could easily use a weapon with better range like your Blaster for FFYL. Every time you break out the Slapper you’re two feet from them after Blood Rush. When it only takes one or two shots you won’t have ammo issues.

The blaster might be enough against a regular enemy, but not enough against a badass, especially in the Holodome’s badass round. Even an Arch Guardian requires several shots from a Maliwan shock blaster. That one time I got a second wind off an Arch, I was definitely not close enough to get full damage with a Ravager. But apparently it had been weakened by the Aspis, prior to me going down, and the Fridgia was enough to finish it off after freezing. And check out 24:35 - 24:50. On both of those Arches, I managed to get a freeze boosted explosive crit from mid-range without even aiming down. The second still had its shield and still died in a single hit. That raw power and potential is the reason I use a Torgue pistol instead of a Torgue shotgun. A Ravager has the lowest fire rate of all Torgue shotguns, and the reload speed is significantly slower than the Slapper’s. With the Slapper and Athena’s mag size boost, reloading is not even an issue.
It’s not about how close to an enemy I am after Blood Rushing. It’s about where I might be when I go down. If I use a shotgun, sometimes there will be an enemy close enough to freeze ‘n’ blow, and sometimes there will not be an enemy close enough for a shotgun. I have to prioritize the latter instance, because for me, it’s the difference between staying alive and dying. To me, having to aim for an enemy’s crit spot is a small price to pay to be able to kill them at mid-range with freeze ‘n’ blow.
