@VaultHunter101 could you please delet off topics or move it to PM sections, thank you in advance.
Question: is there any reason to use an alien barrel for anything at all? These types of weapons confuse me because their damage seems very low yet they use more ammo per shot.
Do they have secrets that I do not understand?
the usual trade off is dps for ammo consumption so yes there is a reason for it. especially the shotguns
My pleasure.
As a general PSA: please take disagreements to POLITE PMs, or take a pass
Thatās the broader concept that needs to be kept in mind when looking at potential outliers generally, and balancing in particular. Like the Bee shield for example - trading damage output for tankiness. As long as there are costs associated with obvious benefits for top-tier weapons itās not so much about massive changes in stats as adjusting the cost-benefit calculation.
Generally, Iām ok with some moderate outliers if players still have to make that calculation and adjust eg their currently equipped weapons based on situation. The things that really need looking at are the extreme outliers that have very little downside. Iām not deep enough into BL3 to have a good handle on that yet, so Iāll trust those of you who enjoy doing the deep dive into gear and mechanics to come up with good candidates.
But, their damage seems lower than other rapid fire weapons such as the Maliwan Terminator. I also donāt ever see anyone talk about using an alien weapon in their builds.
I am asking because this thread is about balance, and I wonder if alien weapons need buffing.
I havenāt looked into these at all, but you do need to take things like accuracy, recoil, reload speed, critical damage, projectile speed, and hidden bonuses (where relevant) into account as well.
Carbuncle and Hosts are really good but, most people choose to post Legendary Weapons in their builds. The snipersā¦
Alien Snipers are a Low Area Outlier? They donāt do damage, and they eat ammo. I took a level 29 Dahl Alien Sniper to level 20 Athenas and it wasnāt doing great at all. A 9 level difference should at least make it passable.
they are not particularly worse than regular snipers as they fire very fast and ricochate but as mentioned they lack to jacobs snipers quite a lot. they are not as bad as the lob issue we discussed or the protuberance issue. i have done a mayhem 3 grave ward kill with alien barrel vladof sniper once so while they are very ammo hungry they are not exactly outliers for trash tier. thought single shot dmg values are low af.
Might be my problem. I donāt really have the handling on hand to make use of full auto with them. I just know that I gave them a really lopsided test and they didnāt measure up even with the odds stacked for them.
Iāve been wracking my brain for outliers, but every good weapon I know I use has a draw back Iāve considered.
Hellwalker has a fixed pattern which makes it only good close up where you are weakest.
Brainstormer is only shock so itās not like it tears through flesh.
Mindkiller is. Hm. I really like it but I donāt think itās OP? Itās lack of element stops it from getting too comfortable.
Hosts canāt Crit naturally.
Hellfire is only great if you can keep it head popping.
Sorry, Just kinda going over my favorite guns in my head to see if Iām relying on anything.
Which alien weapons are those? I donāt remember the alien barrel names for the different companies. I am always open to experiment with fun purples.
updated the list, open for suggestions.
what about torgue launchers? particularly quickies and stickies? they seem pretty high. i think atlas pistols could be adjusted up
I implied all non Jacobs and cov piatols need adjusting.
As to quickie can you explain exactly why it beats counter parts. Stuck per shot 55% seems way too much but what makes it better than other torgues and vladofs by outlier margin? Sticky damage stacking or what
after a bit of testing i can see why single ammo cost hedgehog and quickie launchers are much better than rest of the field.
