I agree. I think with the evolution of the “meta”, galilea will slowly but surely fall down. Maybe not like bastion in overwatch, but I feel it could be similar. For those who didn’t play overwatch, bastion is basically the worst character in the game, the ONLY character which can induce people to demonstratively go afk if you even try to pick him in any decent MMR game.
Yet, during the open beta testing, when all hell broke loose, EVERY THREAD was “nerf bastion”. Because bastion is a stationary turret that mows you down if you stand in front of him. And that’s it. Basically, you counter him with every other hero, 1v1, you can toy with him. An average player can toy with a bastion played by superior player. The discrepancy in perceived “opness” and the reality is so large that in the open beta, teams of new players would happily pick like two bastions, which resulted in loss of morale in the other team. When I was on that other team, I simply said to people to play like they usually do and that it’s a free win and that they feel free to report me if we lose:) Then I would proceed to constantly kill both bastions with variety of heroes and we win. And I had people contacting me after the match for teh secret ingredient, which was simply - don’t stand in front of him in mid range because he SERVER THE PURPOSE to shred a tank in half a second in that situation. That’s all. Bastion never sees competitive play, bastion is the only character where you will have afks on your team if you pick him and bastion is the character blizzard admits to failing to design him well and will probably receive not only a buff but a complete overhaul because his kit is simply non-viable.
And yet, evrey single topic in the open beta section was “nerf bastion”.
Now, I am not sure if this is the case with galilea - I played overwatch for like a year and I know very well what I am talking about, but about battleborn, not so much. But it FEELS like it could be something like that. Not to that extent, as I don’t see her as something completely non-viable, but as a same kind of notion.
I am bad at her - although I like playing her - oh the tears of sorrow. But I don’t think I am a bad player in general. It’s just, you can’t do much as her if you aren’t grouping or having a spontaneous communication AND you have a pocked miko or something. You stand there like a tool with your shield, hoping there’s some window to initiate and when you do, you batter that one poor guy, he escapes with like 1hp and you get mowed down instantly by the whole team. Now, I exaggerate a bit, but that’s how it usually goes when I’m playing her. There isn’t much to do with her. If you want to survive, you won’t contribute as much, if you want to contribute, you WILL die.
At least, that’s the way I see it. I have like zero deaths with Montana every time I play him (although I do it rarely, not a fan). I die like flies on Galilea. Sure, I have yet to adapt and stuff, but it’s a bit indicative. Her range is non-existent and her defense is one-trick pony stuff. Her attack is a HUGE commitment and a very real liability.
