Battleborn Battleplan #5: 6/9/16

This week’s Battleborn Battleplan sees the addition of a long-requested feature, a couple hot fixes as well as a peek at what’s to come, and some amazing cosplays!

This week, we’re happy to announce that we’re implementing another feature that has been a direct request from the community – rematching. Rematching will fundamentally change how Battleborn’s matchmaking works in the sense that you will no longer need to manually re-queue after each multiplayer match. Instead, you’ll be kept in queue with your current teammates and the next match will automatically begin – no more having to re-select your preferred game mode and re-queue! The hope here is to get players back into the game as quickly as possible and hopefully smooth out the matchmaking process as well.

What to Expect:

•Rematch will be available in all PVP modes with a 20 second timer being added to the top-right of the screen.

•If you do not want to play another match, make sure to back out before the enemy team has been found. This will allow the game to find another player for your team so they’re not down a player next round!

•If you are a party lead and do decide to exit out of the matchmaking queue, your party will all be removed from matchmaking as they did before this feature was enabled.

We know this has been a very hot topic among the community since launch, so we’re glad that we’re able to bring you all this new and exciting feature. This is among the improvements and tweaks to matchmaking that we will continue to make in order to optimize the experience for everyone! Let us know what you think of rematching on our forums!

This week’s list of hot fixes is quite small, but contains fixes for a couple things that have continued to pop up on our radar. As a reminder, hot fixes are things that can be easily and quickly implemented. While these lists can tend to be short, we want to include these small fixes as a part of our effort to be as transparent as possible when it comes to changes that could affect the gameplay experience. Larger changes and community requests such as in-game reporting features, lore challenge adjustments, and performance improvements take a bit more time and must be included in a full update. Having said that, these issues are among many that will be coming to you all in the near future.

Hot fixes begin rolling out at 12pm PT (3pm ET) on Thursdays. This week’s fixes are:

• Increased the Max Health of S1.Chronicle in The Archive by 50%.
• Fixed a visual issue with Thorn’s level 10 Left Helix Augment, Wild Judgment.

Additionally, our team has made a discovery that we think will answer why some players have not received their lore challenge rewards. In some cases, this issue could be caused by dropping out of a mission and entering a different mission before the original activity has ended. Since this action takes place across multiple servers, this may cause the game to not recognize when the threshold for completing a challenge has been met and thus, the challenge or character will not unlock. When this happens, characters can still be unlocked through Command Rank leveling, but lore challenges may remain broken.

Our team is working on a fix that that would retroactively award lore challenges that were affected by this issue, and we’ll be implementing that fix as soon as possible. To avoid this issue, we encourage everyone to stick with missions and matches to completion, as leaving them early appears to be directly related to this issue.

The Gearbox Community is legendary for its amazing cosplays. It started with Borderlands, continued with Tales from the Borderlands, and is being taken to the next level with Battleborn. We love to recognize our cosplayers every chance we get and thought this week would be a great chance to take stock of a few of the awesome cosplays that we’ve seen so far. Check out the Battleborn cosplay thread on the Gearbox Forums to see more!

The weeks are getting busier and busier and soon we will have lots more to share with you all. For next week and among other things, we have another character Deep Dive on the way – this time for Kelvin! Battleborn Lead Programmer Scott Velasquez is known around the studio as the foremost expert on Kelvin and how to build him into an icy, chomping, death machine! Next week, we’ll be sharing a piece written by Scott with some Kelvin tips and tricks, and maybe even some cool ancillary info on everybody’s favorite Eldrid Ice Golem. All that, plus more hot fixes and more in next week’s Battleplan. Until then, we’ll see you all in the Solus system!

A-a-and another week with 0 info on the promised with Alani T2 skins. And nothing I can attain to either. Guess I should just give up hope.

Great update! I didn’t realize how excited I was for the rematching!

And while the S1 Sentinel on the Archive did need some more health, I’d also like to see more health for stage three of Saboteur!

The only thing I’m really unsure of:
Is the rematch update coming today? If so, I’m surprised you can do that with a SHiFt fix.

I dunno about you, but I’m super thrilled about that health increase on Chronicle! I know you’re a librarian, dude, but you gotta be healthy!

That rematching feature looks awesome.
For those wondering about the scoring post mentioned last week:

I’d rather be able to start a match within a minute using recolors, than have an awesome glowing animated skin with no matches to play.

Let’s see if this change will bring back some players. Today the counter hit below 600 simultaneous PC players, so any change in matchmaking is welcome at this point.

Seriously though, any info regarding tier 2 skins would help. Just give us something

So no fixes for performance, queue times, or match making. Thus the player base will continue to shrink.

Not to sound ungrateful, but the battleplan has turned into something that is rather depressing. Every week there’s a sense of excitement that this week there will be something really cool announced, then we get, well, not much.

I haven’t been keeping up on the rematch discussions, but the shouldn’t the point of a rematch be to play the same team again? (Edit: get it now, this will save time when not in premades). As it is, I don’t like it when the lobby leader requeues us immediately. Oh well…

They are not mutually exclusive.

Very happy about the rematch feature! Hopefully people utilize this option, I can see people who lose not even bothering to try again, but I hope!

Great to hear that a rematch option has been added, essentially as a hotfix and that a full patch isn’t needed for that.

Thanks @JoeKGBX and the rest of the team for these regular updates and the hints of things to come. I (and many others) appreciate that there are reasons why you don’t give more than just hints at this stage (not least if anything is then delayed it would cause disappointment if you had already announced a date). I look forward to seeing Battleborn develop further in the coming months.

What do you mean no fix to queue times? Lol. Rematching saves you half the time by keeping a party together

ANY NEWS ON THE VOXIS CORE LEGENDARY??? for gods sake! you cant just take it out of the game for weeks at a time. That is such shoddy and lazy engineering and programming. I had a lot of players I was playing regularly with and since the Voxis messup and a few others they have stopped playing and given up on the game until the voxis returns basically! its difficult to find a good legendary item that is useful for my thorn skill damage build. I have farmed for AGES for loads of them and have received none, but that doesn’t bother me cus I finally got the voxis…only for it to be disabled and taken away. And now having not many other gear options for skill damage makes quite a vast difference in how I play and how effective I and many others are! pull your fingers out gearbox and sort it out fellas!! I grinded for hours upon hours upon hours to get credits for packs and farming bosses and now its all for nothing…until I do it ALL over again to find another good enough piece of gear. This is unacceptable really. I don’t think I will be playing again. Bye battleborn and gearbox…was fun while it lasted. RIP voxis.

Only if all ten people agree. I don’t see that happening very often. And frankly, only one in 10 matches is worth a rematch, and with 45+ minutes to queue per match… it’s addressing the wrong end of the problem.

omg, calm down. It’s been a week. It wasn’t working as expected. it will be back.

a week of not being able to play… or with none of my normal group to play with. and a week of having to use different characters and dif styles…when I don’t want to play those styles or characters. I want my intended style which is the reason I bought the game in the first place.

No Alani fix yet again. Back to overwatch I go

yep same. Poor work from gearbox here. really poor. no alani fix, no voxis or other legendary fix. overwatch it is then…

How were you able to play the game before you got that gear? Is it really impossible to play without an overpowered item?
