To all you badasses on this forum,
Let’s talk Battleborn. We at the HappyHourArcade played the beta on Xbox One and we LOVED it! We loved it more than a Borderlands psycho loves meat bicycles. Yeah…that much.
The hope for this thread is for people to talk strategies and such to be ahead of the curve when this masterpiece of a game drops on 5/3! We’re going to pop it off with our Battleborn obsession…
INCURSION
We played this game type until our eyes and thumbs couldn’t take anymore. So much fun…if you do it right, that is. Below are 3 tips for new teams jumping into this clusterf*ck!
1.CHARACTER SELECTION - VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE
This game has a roster of 25 characters for a reason. Tanks, healers, long range shooters & close quarters melee mercenaries are at your disposal. Assemble a team with a good balance for optimal pub stomping.
HappyHourArcade’s All-Star Lineup: Oscar Mike, Benedict, Miko, Marquis, Orendi
- Alternates: Rath, Galilea, Thorn, Reyna
Even though, our main roster has a lot of range characters, don’t be afraid to mix in some melee in that murder soup. Rath and Galilea are absolute monsters in close range encounters. Just don’t go overboard with a team of strikers because you’ll get picked off before you make it to midfield.
PRO TIP: We don’t use the bigger characters much. Sure, they’re tanky but when you’re that big, it just makes you easier to hit.
2.TEAMWORK - KNOW YOUR ROLE AND RUN YOUR MOUTH
So you’ve picked your character and the game starts…NOW WHAT DO YOU DO?! Sure, you know what your player does…but do you know your true self? ::queue Enigma’s ‘Return to Innocence’::
Battleborn does a kick ass job in the post game of letting everybody know how they contributed (kills, health granted, turrets built, shards collected, etc). Our team kind of naturally fell into these roles:
TheCommish11 as Oscar Mike aka The Killer – The slayer of man, woman, bird robot thing, ice monster, etc. Always on the front lines, meeting the opposition and wrecking them to force longer and longer respawn times. You have an army? We have a Commish.
kittypancake as Miko aka The Healer – The mommy figure of the group that makes sure we go into battle with a full tummy and a full health bar. Healers have to pick their fights wisely because if they go down, their teammates won’t be far behind. Keep feeding your team that mushroom juice to keep them fighting!
RoBezzle as Orendi aka The Recruiter – This person helps the front lines by bringing in backup. On the map you’ll find you can build bullet-spongy Super Bots and kill/summon pissed off Thrall monsters. These are your reinforcements and consistently keeping the other team tied up with them will make it that much easier to pwn n00bs hardbody karate.
JiGz GoTCHa as Benedict aka The Engineer – This game is like chess…but like with guns and tanks and sh*t. You have to control the field and the best way to do that is building & upgrading a butt ton of turrets to knock your opponents on their asses! Hehehe. But, to build tech, you need money. They say “money is power” and, in Battleborn, shards are money. So…SHARDS = POWER!!! Get…all…the shards.
xpound4poundx as Marquis/Reyna aka The “I’ll Be Right There” Guy – It’s exactly what you think it is. Teamwork makes the dream work and this guy is MLK’s wet dream. Whether he’s joining your killer on the front lines, giving your healer an overshield, helping to double team a thrall, or upgrading the turret your engineer was too broke to max out, this guy gets the job done.
Now that everybody knows what they’re doing, talk it out. If you just survived a face-to-face with Rath and need some of that good lovin’/healing, let your healer know. If you see your teammate about to run into an ambush, don’t just giggle and let them fry. And don’t be that tool bag that just keeps running to the middle, solo, to get killed and end up with a 4 day respawn time. Coordinate your pushes and #TeamShot!
3.EXECUTION - A WELL OILED MACHINE
Finally, everybody is ready to rock and knows their role. Now it’s time to hit play on that “RAGEY McMURDERFACE” Spotify playlist and get this W.
LIGHTNING TURRET – This beauty is located in the center of the map. When the game starts make sure only two people are collecting shards on your way to the middle so they can build/upgrade this turret (300 to build and 400 for first upgrade). Remember when we said this game is chess? Well if you get this turret first, you just ate their castle thingy!
MERCENARY THRALL - After a few minutes you will hear the game announcer say that mercenaries have appeared. Each side has a solo thrall and in the middle of the map there is a duo. They are marked on the mini-map by a bold thick red icon. Here at HHA we love capturing the thrall then immediately building the Super Bot to send them into battle hand-in-hand like a murderous Jack & Jill.
BALL THE F*CK OUT – Your “engineer” shouldn’t be the only person collecting shards and building stuff. It’s really a team responsibility so make that map work for you! Turrets, accelerators, support stations…get as many as you can and protect them and they’ll protect you back. Oh yeah, and the more shards you collect, the less the enemy can get. I LOVE PLAYING KEEPAWAY!!!
KILL THOSE DAMN SPIDERS – Granted, killing other players is WAAAAYYYY more satisfying than shooting a tank. You gain experience from kills. You get to taunt your enemies and make them rage. But no matter how many players you kill, you can’t win until those tanks are taken down. Oh, and you know those little bots that feel like they just get in the way? PROTECT THOSE LITTLE BASTARDS. They shred the sentry shield and will allow you to get more shots on it much faster.
Well fellow Battleborn soldiers…this is just the start. We would LOVE to hear from all of you on what you do to win. If you have any questions on anything else please let us know. So now I guess we sit…and wait…
Is it May 3rd yet?

thanks for the kind words!
Though I didn’t play a lot of Incursion, heavily preferring Meltdown during the beta m’self, though I’m pretty sure Incursion was more popular across the board. I’m super curious to see how the new maps change up the feel of those game modes come release.
