Helix unlocks means they get advantages sooner
Alright, bottom line: some people donāt care about a store-- maybe they donāt care about cosmetics, so they donāt care that thereās a store Bc theyāll never use it. Others donāt mind it Bc they have money to blow on that kind of thing.
However, Others want a progression-like system for their cosmetics-- a moba that has Diablo like visual upgrades for their heros⦠Thatās a rarityā¦Maybe not gear slots, but cool unlockables that make your character look awesome-- most mobas lack this entirely, the free to play or super cheap ones monetize the visuals, so thereās no progression feel to it⦠With Battleborn it appeared as if that would be different-- YES they mentioned microtransactions, but the vast majority of the community was under the impression that microtransactions would not carry the majority of visual customization. It seems we were wrong⦠Now we speak out to voice our frustration, and the people in the groups I mentioned first look at us like āwho caresā but itās simply Bc we were expecting a different gaming experience, and thereās enough of us who are upset about it that it show that were not just a handful of crazy people for thinking thatās what we were getting⦠GBX seemed to have a different approach until now, and many of us thought so⦠And our outspokenness here isnāt about pointing fingers as much as us saying āplease donāt be like that GBXā⦠But as so many of you have already said (in not so many words) they may just look back at us and say āsorry weāve said all along we reserve the right to do what we wantā and they do have that right, but I hope their fanbase matters to them enough to at least consider changing how they handle SOME of the tier 2 and tier 3 skins⦠Let us at least unlock a FEW through gameplay!
I am sure you all are getting a lot of what I am about to give, but you really did it to yourselves. You released a $60 title, enticing us with promises in multiple interviews and articles that there would be DLC but no microtransactions, tricked us in the early access and open beta that the story mode would be more than just mindless monster wave protect point maps, and some of the most interesting PvP based cross-genre gameplay in a LONG time in the video game industry. You lured us in with the voice of Tiny Tina, the absurd dialogue of Geoff, and colorful taunts of Montana.
Then, you released the $60 title and we realized, dialogue aside, this game wasnāt as well polished as we expected. The terrain is buggy, causing characters like Montana to get stuck on LITERALLY everything, you left the ally minions blocking so tank characters are out of luck when it comes to tanking the front because they canāt escape their own minions, and only 3 levels in the story with any interesting gameplay. Now, you want to take a game with an aggregate (and earned) score of 70 and add a CASH SHOP breaking that one promise, that HUGE promise which caused us Battleborn advocates, the ones who spent hours spreading the word of what Battleborn COULD be, who in turn promised our friends while trying to justify a $60 pricetag, into liars.
We have been looking at these Tier 2 skins for a long time, desperately waiting to get our hands on them because, letās face it, the recolors are pretty basic. We have been looking at these things in rare glimpses from Closed Beta bot matches waiting for our chance to do whatever it takes in a game promised to be microtransaction free, to unlock these. Now, you have taken the lazy way out and STILL your $60 mediocre release is $60 with a $20 season pass.
Not only does this severely hamper any credibility you have in my book as a game developer going forward, but this has me wishing for a refund. You want to know what I want to get out of this cash shop? What do I want to find in this cash shop going forward? A button to allow me to get a total refund for the $80 I spent. I want every penny back because this is a gross abuse of my trust. I am sorry to everyone I suggested get this game and to all of my friends who spent the $60 in order to play this game with me. It wasnāt worth it because Gearbox and 2K are just as bad as Blizzard.
Instead of improving the game and making it something that can stand out as a competitive title, they would rather implement a cash shop to drive what few players they still have making it even more difficult to find games. The competitive scene was killed off before it even had a chance to exist. Instead of nurturing that aspect of the community, Gearbox and 2K have prioritized adding in a feature which statistically only benefits F2P games. This has been consistently proven, time and time again. And in this case, Gearbox is adding this āfeatureā to a dying game with a fading community.
True
Youāre a fool if you believe that there should be separate teams when the game was released in the absolutely shocking state that it was. First game I played in ages was today, and an enemy got stuck in the wall rendering the entire single player mission a failure so I wasted about 30 minutes of my time. A minute of any consumers time wasted is not acceptable. So yeah, youāre right. It IS important to realise that theyād rather split their team up instead of keeping people on fixing stuff. Thanks for pointing that out.
So you want the character artists, marketing advisors and community teams to work on fixing bugs?
That would be a very bad thingā¦
Starting the game earlier than someone else gives you helix unlocks sooner than them. Playing the game more than someone else gives you helix unlocks sooner than them. Same goes for credits. So again how is someone using a booster any different than someone just having more time to play the game or an earlier start?
Had this booster been available day 1 the argument could atleast hold some potential point but this far in adding it makes absolutely no difference to the game or playerbase.
If people want to toss money into that booster let them. You arenāt going to notice it because thereās no way you are going to tell the difference between someone leveling on a booster and someone whoās not.
The only meritable argument against the booster on here is that itās technically not cosmetic since its not a skin or taunt, while at the same time technically it is because it helps unlock or aquire skins from progression and possibly skins and taunts from loot packs quicker. This is kind of a gray area depending on how you look at it.
Marketing and community teams? What even are those? What did they do in the first place? Did they cause all the bugs? No, but did they cause all the problems with launch and the ā ā ā ā storm after? Yes. They did nothing as the community got more and more annoyed with gearboxās ā ā ā ā ā ā behaviour. So yeah, they shouldnāt fix bugs, they should be fired for not doing their jobs.
Character artist, yes, I agree with you there but youāre basically saying they only know how to do one thing and only one thing. Which I believe they have more talent than that. Itās like an IT technician knowing only windows OS and not MAC hardware⦠which is a stupid career move.
Awful. Still, there is no other alternative of getting these skins, except for real money. What a disappointment⦠After all, even the promised Season Pass holders did not, and have introduced paid skins
Marketing team: These are the guys usually that go over figures and charts to determine if there is a market for the game concept. Input from these guys and their analysis of statistical data can help drive the direction a project will take and how it is presented to the consumer.
Community Team: These are the people listening to the gamer community to try and determine what the players want or are looking for. You know, the guys reading our bug posts, our reported issues, our forum feedback, suggestions etc.
Many times people in these 2 areas lack programming and coding skills because their primary duty is not centered around those tasks.
Character and level design artists general priorities are to create the visuals of the game. These people are often artists that put their designs and concepts on paper or screen and also known to try and flesh out the concepts out of the minds of others they work with that may not share their level of artistic skill. The people on this team may or may not have a high degree of programming skill if any at all.
Programmers are the ones generally entering all the code that makes the game move and work. Some specialize in animation, others work on the game engine and mechanics, The work these guys are doing is generally going to go to new content or added features and bringing life to the visuals created by the character and level artists.
Troubleshooting specialists: These generally are your team of people trying to fix the bugs, glitches, errors, etc that are reported. This team is full of programmers as well however their task usually is to fix the existing code rather than add new content.
Networking specialists: These guys are the ones making sure you have a game server to connect to and play on.
Now this is just a typical breakdown. The actual breakdown for gearbox could have less or more teams. Only they are going to be able to tell you specifics on this. However what it basically means is that adding new content does not mean they are not fixing issues. Theyāre doing both and pulling all other teams to shove them into troubleshooting is a horrible idea because its like trying to shove your garbage, sewer, electric, water, and gas companies into your garage to figure out why the engine in your car is knocking.
And Yes, you lost another player with a Deluxe set and sham 250+ hours. I congratulate You on a common policy. Yet, battleborn died for me, as for almost 95% of my friends in steam (for them she had died before whatever update).
Actually I am pretty angryā¦today in week 6 post launch I saw Battleborn in a store for 20⬠(PS4)ā¦6 WEEKS AFTER LAUNCH AND I CAN GET A NEW RETAIL COPY FOR 28,57% OF THE ORIGINAL PRICE I PAID! If gearbox was willing to stomp in the prices right after the Overwatch launch (3 weeks after the release), without even a warning to the people supporting the game way beforehand it pretty much shows how little they value their fans, customers and own product.
How about giving people based on how long they are already in the game some Platinum? People who had this game in the 1st 3 weeks should be refunded with 3500 Platinum which is equal to a 20ā¬/$ purchase and pretty much the 1st way too early discount on the game.
I stop reading when see this.
You are wrong about it because a lot of people, even me, said a lot of times that Gearbox/2K said to all the community that there would be MTs.
That would be nice⦠Give season pass holders 500 platnium
I could not disagree with you more.
If I want to know what Montanaās alternate skin looks like, I want to click on Montana and view it. Maybe give him a little spin around so I can see his butt. (jk on that last part).
I do not want to have to navigate to a separate page, sort through the various skins and view a tiny, static image. I do not want to only be able to view one part of a taunt.
They layout for them right now is ideal (for once). All the way at the bottom of the character, where you wonāt see it unless youāre looking for it.
No, itās not. Itās like asking a writer to paint a picture. Or a director write a script. Sure, thereās sometimes overlap, but the skills required are unique and distinguishable.
And to use your direct analogy: Itās less like having an IT technician know only Windows, but not Mac (which actually does happen) and more like comparing a junior Software Developer to an IT Technician.
And if I want to know it, I want to go to marketplace and get a proper preview of the whole model. This is a natural way of selling something, a way that comes to mind first. Going to your heroās page to buy something instead of going to the marketplace is not obvious.
eh, sure. Why not both, then?
Thereās no reason to exclude one or the other. As Iāve used many times: Heroes of the Storm does this very well, imo.
Hattie gave good reasons why, didnāt she? Because it serves not only as an additional way to buy things, but also as another kind of advertising. No wonder some people donāt want to see it in a full-priced game. āItās not a free-to-play zone yetā Ā© me
A checkbox in game options would fix this issue.
Ok Iām down with that. I really do try to see things from both perspectives, and you make a good argument.
The biggest frustration for me comes from the subject I posted before-- It came off like the āstoreā wasnāt going to hold all or most of the power when it came to visual customization. If GBX says āhey you can unlock two tier 3 skins on every character, and three tier 2 skins on every character just by playing, but everything else is extraā¦ā Then Iād be like āOk thatās cool, thereās a great deal of visual customization content included in the game already, but thereās a lot more coming, so I get that I have to pay for thatā⦠thatās not how this feels⦠all Iāve seen available in game so far is color swaps⦠that greatly diminishes the enjoyment of the progression-to-acquire-visual-customization aspect of the game greatly⦠thatās a great disappointment for many of usā¦
*NOTE: Iām not saying GBX lied, bc they definitely alluded to making this decision, but many of us had a different impression of their approach⦠and as a fanbase we should be voicing to them what things are a disappointment to us⦠they still reserve the right not to do what we ask⦠but it would suck if they did that⦠and leave a lot of us disappointedā¦
AGAIN: Iām not saying donāt have a store⦠Iām saying give enough us tier 2 and 3 skin content as part of the base game and/or DLCās in the season pass that we donāt feel disappointed by purchasing the game in the first placeā¦
OR like others have said-- give the people who have been supporting the game since announcement or even launch, some of this premium currency so we feel the love gbxā¦
