So for all the blind hate should there be raids of excitement? If people see others excited for it they at least become curious. Strike team Badass?
I suppose it is all subjective, but I felt Evolve got the results it deserved. It was an interesting concept, but not enough to prop up an entire title. There were also a fair number of technical issues, especially with matchmaking, and there was always the problem where the monster had to be good to make the match good, and some people did not want to be the monster and barely tried, etc. But I digress, this is not an Evolve forum.
I think some of the antipathy towards Battleborn comes from who is developing it, Gearbox, and some comes from the game being somewhat poorly defined and understood.
Gearbox is associated with two recent, high-profile critical failures (Aliens: Colonial Marines and Duke Nukem Forever. One can argue how much blame they should have, but the point is that, deserved or not, they have it.
Battleborn itself is something hard to explain or define. People are confused whether it is a MOBA, whether it is another Borderlands game, whether it is online only, whether it has a campaign, whether it is just like Overwatch, etc. There is a lot of misinformation about what it is and isnāt. The people on this forum may understand it, but most people do not take the time to educate themselves so if a company cannot get their message across the first time in a simple, direct way, then people get confused. I do not think Gearbox or 2K have done an especially good job explaining what Battleborn is and why you as a player should be excited.
Activision Blizzard is fortunate that Blizzard as a company has such a sterling reputation and millions of fans, not just of the games but of the company and all it touches, that they can get away with a lot more. That is the benefit of having that level of trust with players. Gearbox does not have that so they need to work much harder.
The NDA for the CTT is until GBX rescinds it I believe.
Preach on, brother!
Weāre called the silent majority for a reason.
Humans are social creatures and when a āmovementā seems to garner a lot of attention, those craving that attention will attempt to join it.
I agree. If it wasnāt for what I saw during the CTT, I donāt know if I would be as excited for it as I am. Iām chomping at the bit for a beta!
I have found gamers to be some of the most entitled people on the planet. It has reached a point where I think gamers complain just to confirm their hearts havenāt stopped.
Canada Dry, you plebian! And everyone knows Vernorās is better.
Vernorās is what you get if you mix Canada Dry with Cream Soda - a bit smoother, fuller flavour. But if itās bite you want, it had better be ginger beer not ale!
And that is why I shouldnāt post when tired.
I think the beta should silence some doubters. I hope there are easy ways to connect with other gamers and quicker to open card packs. That was just too tedious.
I have been wondering about this too recently. It isnāt just bias and fanboys. There is serious negativity about this game out there.
I watch a lot of GiantBomb content and on the rare occasion that this game comes up they are just kind of bothered by it. They think it feels generic and boring.
I donāt know why but this game is difficult for people to get excited about.
Itās the same reason why it took so long for people to warm up to Borderlands. Little excitement for such a good game. Then it exploded into 5 games (counting the iOS game and telltale) and a possible movie.
Yeah, when you think that everyone was saying that Rage was going to be such strong competitionā¦
Peoples either blindly hate it, because itās⦠funā¦? I guess? to hate something (You know like LoL vs Dota, CoD vs BF, WoT vs WT, or whatever)
Or they havenāt played the game and just have no idea what they are talking about.
There is also a lot of comments of peoples who like it, or want to try it. Depend where you look at.
Good times, good times.
i still remember people saying it would kill Borderlands.
Heh, idea for a raid boss in Battleborn (if they have such things in the campaign): Borderlands the Invincible!
Burn.
I am surprised by peopleās reaction to the game. That of all the things people are labelling the game, generic is about the least likely criticism I would lower against it. A first person class-based game with melee combat and shooter elements and colourful hand drawn particle effects. Itās about as far from generic fps as you can get. I canāt really understand how people have said that it just looks like Borderlands. Borderlands had the look of concept art brought to life. The characters looked like the textures were defined with a black marker pen. Battleborn doesnāt share that aesthetic. The only real similarity is that neither game attempts to chase photorealism and I for one applaud that.
At first I though the big cartoony explosions were a bit too much and it was hard to quickly understand what was going on, but after a while you can tell which player used which ability with a specific character. Oscar Mike, Miko and Thorn all have a ranged AoE/splash damage attack, but each one looks very distinct.
Perhaps the Battleborn style isnāt for everyone, but I would say itās too distinctive to be bland or generic.
Iām not. Itās not Borderlands 3 and GBX hasnāt really explained what exactly it is aside from being a hero-shooter. That and thereās a pack mentality when it comes to games: if people start liking or trashing a particular game, others notice this and follow the trend. Iām not worried about Battleborn because I think itāll do just fine after itās released. Borderlands 1 took a bit to take off, but look at it now - even TPS couldnāt hurt it (much).
It isnāt, which may be another reason why there seems to be a lot of negative comments regarding it.
Are you implying/inferring Overwatch will be the next Rage by this statement?
I wouldnāt go that far. Iām saying that Gbx are good at surprising people.
Reddit is a good place to look for general sentiment. On there most people seem keen to play both as they are two very very different approaches to a similar concept.
There are even videos comparing the two in a positive manner. Itās really only attention seeking trolls looking to badmouth either game. Such is the internet.
I remember the Rage hype, though. It was perceived to have all the cards in its favour early on. Then everyone played it once for about 10 hours and forgot about it. I really hope Overwatch is better than that. Blizzard cannot afford another catastrophe like Diablo 3 version 1. Or that p2w rubbish in HS.
