That sounds suspicious to me. Battleborn is certainly not that bad a game where you’d get to to avoid buying it. Either that cashier was ignorant or he had some sort of experience where he thought BB was a bad game. It irks me to hear that. Most people who’ve judged BB haven’t played it or played it sparsely thinking you can pick it up like any old shooter. I seriously wanna know more behind that story. “Is there anything we can do to convince you not to buy it.” Sounds damn near illegal
Someone will probably tell me it’s already in a mass thread, but i have a different (than the previous posts I’ve read) angle to come at it with…
I’m sad that the player base is dying… i wish we’d just go free to play already. The game is more than worth the 10$ it cost on black Friday, but no one’s going to pay that for a game they weren’t already interested in… just make it free, it’s got the TRASH in-game store like a f2p already… just GO there already so we can have an actual player base and there will be a large enough user base that might want to actually purchase something from the store.
Fact, people who paid for your game already are NOT the demographic that’s interested in buying from your in-game store… the people who paid NOTHING for the game, but become interested in a few characters they like, and want to make them look cooler – THAT’s the demographic the garbage store appeals to. So GO F2P already and save the game from having 0 players guys!
except it’s not dying on ps4 and xb1
Threads merged.
That’s no reason for another thread, really.
Thanks, I was waiting for this before I replied
There are many structural issues with this game. The price point and new people coming into the game are not one of them. Players are not sticking around and having people just download it for free isn’t going to get people to enjoy the game or even bring back the ones who tried it out.
Lot of new players! It make me cry sometimes (when im doing my sólo queue) but take it like a man and stick with the team.
Ok lol. whatever, they can move it if they want.
I hate disconnects. really annoyz
I’m one of the those ‘they’ that you’re talking about. Purple posters are moderators.
I’m not saying it’s not worth the price. I just mean that if you aren’t already pining for it no one cares if it’s affordable. There’s no demand to drive sales. Honestly, it’s too late to generate the kind of interest they need off of pure “anticipation” like they could have had if not for the media fail prior to release. There’s no anticipation, maybe that factor could have been capitalized on prior to release, but now it’s already out, and it’s not “trending”…
They need to make a business move and now. The store was a joke move without a F2P structure to accompany it. Sure the skins are cool, but I’m certainly not lining up to give them more money after 60$ for a game thats now 10$. They’re trying to make the store appeal to the wrong people. It was added frustration to those who already supported the game. GIVE the game away for free, and then say “but the bells and whistles are a little bit of $” then people who LIKE the game because they actually TRIED it, because it was free, (and they never would have if it wasn’t free), might actually say “well it’s only a couple dollars”… get enough of those and your game is floating better in terms of cash flow and player base. It’s a fact, psychologically, marketing companies do it all the time, look it up. If a product is FREE and you just pay 5$ shipping, the peons of planet earth are more likely to buy it than a product that costs 3$ with 2$ shipping. People with a brain know, “Hey that’s exactly the same cost”, but the masses (who seem to prefer the mindless garbage other games offer) think to themselves, it’s FREE, I’ll try it, and if I like it… all the while they’ll end up spending a few bucks on it, even if they only play for a short time… But you have to make it ACCESSIBLE to them without barrier first. It’s a common business practice, and it’s why F2P is a real thing, and didn’t die off…
I personally hate F2P, but BB might as well be already since the release of the cash store. It’s a F2P game inserted into my AAA game, except the initial cost is still keeping the user base lower than a true F2P game would be… so Battleborn is suffering from the problems of BOTH pay structures, and it will have no relief until they figure out what they are. E-sports will not save battleborn. It wouldn’t have saved Evolve, or the plethora of other games that had great ambitions for being World of Warcraft’s “pay full price and then pay us more on top of that” model… BATTLEBORN DOESN’T HAVE THE USER BASE FOR THAT!! It’s just common sense marketing, and basics of business practice… I can’t for the life of me figure out why someone at 2K won’t just pull the trigger on this already. Case and point, this “pay AAA price and then EXTRA for every little knick knack of DLC” approach KILLED Evolve (GREAT game), until they went F2P, and now they are getting back on their feet…
Maybe F2P doesn’t guarantee player retention, and I can’t speak to that but whoever says it’s not dying on ps4 is wrong @jedc750 . If long wait times and the consolidation of playlists isn’t evidence enough, you’re just not looking that closely. The player base is SIGNIFICANTLY reduced since launch and it’s still dwindling. I don’t know what statistics are saying they’re gaining players but they’d have to be losing them at the same time for the consolidation to happen.
I am going to use an analogy that @epicender584 (I think) used but I cannot find at this moment. Patch the holes before you try to fill up the bucket.
If there was a training ground, a prestige system, or even just better overall balance in the game, then I would say the game should be f2p, but as it stands now, this game would be downloaded a bunch, played for a week or so and then forgotten about.
GBX needs to fix the player retention issues before figuring out how to get new players.
Edit:
I also find it comical that experienced and veteran players are suggesting this game goes f2p. We are in the minority of people who felt like the problems weren’t deal breakers and have stuck with it. The best thing we can do is ask GBX to give us more end game content.
BB has a terrible early game where you have to grind a lot for the gear/characters you want. A long but average middle game where you are learning the ropes and getting comfortable with all of the content. The game is completely lacking an end game of any sort.
So lets make the game f2p so veterans can stomp newbs over and over? No, the game should focus on making new players better rather than just bringing them in.
You make a good argument about fixing the issues so we can retain players. At the same time, part of the issues you’re citing have to do with low player base. How can we have newer players have their own area of the game, if we don’t even have enough players to have more than 1 playlist in the first place? We would need the player base to justify a “newcomers” list, or a ranking system that matches player with others of similar skill level… Having those tools prior to the player base means we will won’t be able to matchmake, or we will get the same result we have now: we end up playing people of vast skill difference anyway, because they’re the only ones we can play.
Honestly, I was coming at it from a business perspective, specifically sales, but you’re coming at it from a Quality Assurance perspective for the sake of retaining people, and both make sense and are needed. I still don’t think E-sports will generate the kind of momentum Battleborn needs. It needs significant changes in the areas we are talking about, and quickly, or they need to make the AI more robust, customizable, and shift the private matches to a P2P format so that we can at least play with friends when they decide to forget BB… which unless GBX is some kind of super-dev, every developer inevitably does at some point… and if online servers are all we’ve got, say goodbye to online multiplayer, even in private matches. BOO.
What about something in between f2p and a trial version?
I mean a pvp trial version with 5 characters, no story maps/dlc and no chances for free gear, other than those packs from levelling up. The 5 characters had to be different for every account of course and varied every time, so we don’t get an influx of the same toons and the player gets some decent choices to try the game.
If you wish to, this could become the full game, provided you keep buying the characters and maps, as well as paying for look packs.
These accounts wouldn’t have the option to use in game currency, or they could, but for much higher prices.
At the same time, you could still buy the full game (launch version) + season pass and enjoy the same perks as everyone that already holds a copy.
Of course, a ranked matchmaking or the ability to create a lobby would need adding as well, prior to the release of this.
Does anyone else think this is possible? Or am I delusional?
Sounds like a good fix to me. Free to play but not free to play story or all characters. Let them buy/unlock characters with real money or credits. But u can download the game with the first 5 characters unlocked and play them indefinitely for free. Or on rotation whatever. Sounds good to me.
Overwatch and Battleborn are nearly nothing alike.
They are both multi platform first person shooters, both have abilities, and they both have a roster of characters that all play very differently. Beyond that, they are nothing alike.
Thank you for not using the same annoying sentences “just because something is like that, doesn’t mean something else has to be like that” or “I never said blah blah blah”
I didn’t play overwatch much before I returned the preordered copy to buy Battleborn instead. The only similarity (in terms of content) that I can think of between these two game is the following
Both have toons that players use to fight each other…
Edit: also the rat something character has a similar mechanic than Ernest.
With that stated, OW ishould have been Free to Play from the start due to lack of content. BB doesn’t deserve it but unfortunately ended up in a s situation that might need to. If the devs can find a way to retrain the players after obtaining them the game is golden. Needless to say that will be almost impossible primarily due to the matchmaking problem.
Right bc overwatch is trash.
But that’s for another forum. Just stirring the pot
