Battleplan 18: 9/8/16

We are?

If all the above comments were on topic and had nothing to do with console v PC then I stand corrected. In any case that’s enough contribution to this derail on my part.

It was more of reasonable discussion though, not a war, also sorry for misunderstanding

It’s not a “war” as I have no opinion which is better. I’m just stating an objective fact, same as Derch. I play on console for what it’s worth. edit no worries by the way, that first sentence sounded harsher than intended, I also enjoy reasonable discussions.

Compared to what’s already happened in this thread everyone right now is behaving like a diplomat :stuck_out_tongue:

you are affected by the command screen glitch, I am not, the players I have played battleborn with are also not having any such glitch, you clearly are a minority and Gearbox still stated they will fix it for you, be thankful, no arrogant

I know, this is actually really cool IMO because almost everytime a fight happens but this is reasonable which is awesome

Thanks for the DLC and Kid Ultra, looking forward to both of them

I’m with you for all the points you’ve made (outside of the feelings/opinions directed at Rivaire) . Last time they had a play with the devs event they released a lot of new info for the upcoming characters and changes. They stream the games obviously and it’s usually a big Q&A with the devs.
I think that’s funkin awesome

What sort of nonsense are you going on about?

2000 players on a Saturday night? On Steam? How many months ago was that? 560 players was the peak on Saturday Sept 10th 2016.

The peak for August 2016 was 1891 (most likely due to Humble Bundle and extended Lootpocalypse event,) average of 640.

The past 30 days the peak is at 939. Unless something drastic happens, I don’t see how this 939 can turn into 2000. Ideally, the number would be even higher.

Because it isn’t a weekend, 397, which turned into 363 by the time I finished my post, is a good number to have? Is that the sign of a healthy population? I want to see anyone justify 397 or lower is a good number. Even on a Sunday afternoon on September 11th, BB is struggling to hit the 600 mark on Steam.

Steam numbers will continue to drop at worst, stay stagnant at best -unless something unexepected comes into play.

Should the community only start worrying when it hits 200? 100? 50?

If Battleplans don’t introduce anything in the short term to promote curiosity and interest in the game, because we are watching the ship sinking in real time, then they aren’t helping.

The game is struggling despite that it’s a good product. That’s the reality on PC.

I’m really skeptical that the above is any sort of ‘propaganda piece’. It’s not an emotionally manipulative attempt at community mind control (which is actually what you seem to be demanding through the rest of your post). It’s a fairly straightforward explanation of the developers’ forthcoming ambitions, and some showcasing of the really impressive efforts of fans of the game (that’s a damn good Orendi costume, seriously impressed!)

It doesn’t make sense to call something propaganda and then list all the ways it’s totally unconvincing and empty.

I’m sorry your friends weren’t tempted by things like loot packs, but that’s a small pool of evidence about what does and doesn’t hold attention, and you’re presenting subjective opinions as facts.

I really don’t see the problem here. I thought you wanted information and content from the Battleplan, not propaganda? Not everything has to be player ‘bait’ and a surprise, surely? What’s wrong with some actual information. That’s what these plans contain. It’s in large part what I look for in them.
Cosplayers in the Community: Glad to see dedicated fans for Battleborn, but how does that make anyone want to come back to play Battleborn? Oh, it doesn’t because they don’t improve the game experience. Sorry, cosplaying fans, your efforts are good but just not enough -love your cosplays though.
Are you suggesting that their efforts should be left out of the Battleplan then? Because they don’t play an adequate part in this need to ‘bait’ the audience? I disagree completely. It’s great to see such creativity; these guys deserve a spotlight, and not just as part of a marketing ploy.

Gearbox cares about their fans and this proves it: they want to give that effort a place, not just cook up a self-flattering press release to get the stats up. And it makes sense from a marketing perspective to me. Showing how dedicated players are to this game is a much-needed counter to the barrage of cynicism that swirls round the game and does it a lot of harm.

Speaking in general rather than just about this post, I’m really not sure that attempting to metaphorically ‘break through’ Gearbox’s skin or ‘light a fire’ under them is productive. It’s great when to see constructive feedback and discussion on this forum but I’m not convinced Gearbox are just sitting around playing minesweeper and need to be given a sharp slap until they make an attitude adjustment. I’ve no doubt they’re focused and working hard on this issue. I have no reason to suspect deceit.

The end part got cut off.

Or were the last words a typo?

Alright, you corrected it.

Not gonna go point by point, since that’s another essay from me, and then another essay from you.

My whole argument in my post was that it didn’t invigorate interest for the players, old and new, to play the game. Only the Hot Fix for Ernest, however small, was relevant, but none of my friends are going to be coming back just because of it.

If the population doesn’t increase (and it’s beginning to falter in other platforms too) then more and more issues will continue to pile up. You know this, I know this, and Gearbox knows this better than any of us.

As for the breaking skin thing, it was Joe that mentioned it. Not the breaking part, but the thick skin part. I had to add a little bit of humor for my own sake.

Ultimately, you’re more than free to disagree with the way I perceived it. Some people saw it as wonderful news, and some of the others, like myself, found that it did nothing for them to continue having fun in Battleborn.

560 peak players on Steam on a Sunday afternoon. If you can convince the PC community that this is a good number to have, I would love to hear it.

Okay, everyone, cool it, now.

Getting personal here is not helpful or desirable.

I don’t think this Battleplan contained any brilliant revelation exactly. It was a fairly businesslike discussion of current objectives followed by a showcase of those swank outfits. I assume what Joe meant when he said he and the team has a thick skin is that they don’t feel personally hurt if/when people respond to posts with a slew of abuse. I’m glad to hear that and I hope that skin remains intact. I know Joe and his colleagues are receptive to community ideas so aggressive responses don’t seem necessary.

I really hope player numbers increase, and I’m sure Gearbox do too (if you check the dev tracker you can see that): I’m sure they’re looking at the statistics themselves. A bigger player base means it’s easier to get matches. What are your ideas for increasing it?

That’s the problem. It wasn’t brilliant by any means with the game sinking in real time. With the game struggling this badly, it unintentionally set expectations really high for everything -including announcements.

I already gave ideas in two different threads, which I will link below.

There are a bunch of ideas there already, so feel free to throw in your two cents in those threads.

https://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/t/some-musings-on-the-popularity-of-battleborn/1546017/24

https://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/t/lets-brainstorm-realistic-ideas-for-gbx-to-increase-bb-playerbase/1546091/27

And the devs can take a few harsh words of criticism, their feelings won’t be hurt when they get to take home good wages for their loved ones. I seriously doubt anyone is unable to sleep at night just because of some of the posts I typed up so far, which all have obeyed forum standards.

I’m glad to hear you have ideas. That’s what the game needs. I personally see little point in being harsh with the devs or Joe, or repeating the player stats, unless you think Gearbox isn’t aware of them yet.

That second idea would be crazy hard. The AI for the bots in private are terrible and that’s only kill other guy. Would be pretty resource intensive to script all the complex pathing and objectives into AI and to make them actually helpful. Scripting for bots in any game is hard and with the complex nature of this game I wouldn’t even want to imagine how much of a pain that would be. They would either be completely useless or they would just be an easy mode switch.

Oh, I know they are aware of them.

If any one of the devs comes out and announces that they don’t know what’s happening on the PC front, I’m gonna run for the hills. With gasoline and a match to burn the bridge.

So should everyone else.

The number is a constant reminder that ideas need to be brought forward to boost up that number -and then maintain it. Then everything else, like Matchmaking, new modes, new missions, new characters, and other stuff can fall into place a lot more smoothly.

PC also suffers from performance issues with certain graphics cards, so this is a very high priority fix or else people aren’t going to play a game that their computer can’t run properly.

If that idea isn’t feasible, there are other ideas other community members posted. And if we’re going to discuss the ideas, I would spend time on that thread.
