No I admit that he’s absolutely right. I accepted that Rath is not an assassin a long time ago. He functions to support his team more than assassinate targets. Taking pressure off of supports or squishies and helping out actual assassins kill a target. All the CC he has and the above average burst damage on his skills sets up beautiful kills for others, or lets him secure a kill someone else was working on but might not get. He can take on the role of an assassin if he’s up against very squishy targets like Orendi, Alani or Miko.
This is even something I discuss in my Rath guide (which I decided to delay until I see how the winter update changes Rath or the meta). I was actually talking about his role with @PrinnyPaladin (close friend and new player, I’m helping him learn the game) he told me that in a traditional moba Rath would have the title of roamer, not assassin. Constantly moving throughout the map and helping his team with whatever is needed, wherever he is needed.
TL;DR Rath best support confirmed.

While this game has no junglers as there’s no jungle, I long ago decided there are two roles
Damage starters - These pump out large amounts of mostly untargeted damage at little risk to themselves and constantly. They keep enemies health low so others can finish them off. Examples include Ernest, Orendi, harassers, Montana, ISIC, Alani, etc. (High end game damage numbers, low kills)
Damage finishers - Best example is Pendles. They typically have good burst with low survivability, longer cooldowns, and are meant to lock down targets for kills now that they’re halfway there. They also typically have higher mobility. Sometimes, these get powerful enough to do all the work themselves. Examples include Rath, Deande, Pendles, El Dragõn, Benedict (overtuned), etc.
So he is firmly in the latter imo. His job is to confirm kills set up by his team. Whether or not he 100 to 0s them has never been particularly relevant for me. It’s all about timing and positioning, not about brute force

I play Rath as both assasin and support. He definitely excels at initializing and killing non-tank characters ( except a good Benedict) securing kills and saving his teammates.
See, when I’m playing with some of my regular friends (@Nemosis327, @Deande, @lolattheseforums, @EdenSophia) I definitely take on the role of a damage starter. Example, Nemo is ready to kill and says , “knock up,hmm… the Alani” I’ll rush in, Smash then Crossblade and rush out, I do roughly 500 damage (depends on level obviously) knock up, silence and slow them and Nemo comes in with a Burst Dash to finish the kill on an already weakened target.
He can definitely take on both roles though, if I see someone start to retreat when my team is pressuring them, I can bombard them with CC to prevent an escape. Same concept applies to people over extending. I bombard them with CC when they push a little too far and get an easy kill. My favorite is when an Orendi dives in and expects to use Nullify to get out but instead gets silenced and destroyed.

That’s so true though, I remember one particular fight where I was playing Rath in and just kept getting freaking assists. My teammates found my exasperation hilarious and one of them said “Be a good Rath and assist us.” It wasn’t funny at the time but man, it taught me how humble Rath can sometimes be 
Further on, “support Rath” is a fun meta joke because of Miko’s ATR skin called “Our Rath Cosplay”. If I pick that skin on Miko I’ll just refer it to as Rath and RP accordingly. If the match is boring I tell the team I’m gonna “tank the enemy”. It might just be me but I find mis-matching character roles entertaining
Oh but ISIC is literally built for k̶i̶l̶l̶s̶t̶e̶a̶l̶i̶n̶g finishing people off. See an enemy on low health? Charge up the shot and observe that KO badge. Can easily give a bit of a chase because of the bulk but range doesn’t usually even matter, death is inevitable. Slightly tougher now without the splash damage but snipe kills are so satisfying.

Has anyone here read Jonathan Stroud’s trilogy “The Bartemaous Sequence”? Because the whole binding a demon to your will to do your bidding who would just as soon tear you to peices if you make a single mistake who then becomes friends through actions taken throughout a long and perilous journy is kind of like the exact story from the book, haha
