I’m not talking to the people who are arguing about valid points like (bug fixes, more news, or better planner battleplans) I’m talking about the people who are complaining about how it’s taking too long or about how they want more content in the most nasty and negative way possible.

Personal note, have plenty of other games to play, but in a few minutes, even with the low PC player count I’m loading Battleborn.

This is a persistent myth about Eldrid Rhythm that really needs to go away (the idea that Mell can still achieve super-tank status). Even at max stacks, she still falls well behind the majority of the cast in overall pool totals due to having zero shield. Thorn, meanwhile, has a hitbox just as small as Mellka’s, is much faster, has increased jump height and a double jump, and she has substantially more base health built right in.

The “with the right gear” qualifier is a particular grievance of mine because anyone can use health gear. Thorn can use the exact same loadout as Mellka if she chooses and then her tankiness and DPS both leave Mell in the dust. What is implied here is that Mell has the unique distinction of being balanced around how powerful optional, unlockable, randomly obtained health gear is, which would be ridiculous if true. If she’s too powerful with health gear and Eldrid Rhythm, they need to adjust those things, not the base character. Otherwise you create a helix / gear dependency which is in fact exactly why Mell is such a mess.

Also note that around the time Mell had her dot nerfed, Thorn had her dot significantly buffed.

I try not to weigh in substantially on this topic anymore but ugh

But you do well to remind us of things when you do weigh in

I don’t know much about mellka but I think giving her 7 more passive hp regen would solve some of her defensive issues.
Offensive is a whole different story.

But I never know when to stop! Case in point…

Here’s all the characters with small / skinny hitboxes I could remember. I deliberately omitted Ernest and Kid Ultra because they’re fat and super easy to hit & crit.

A few things to note:

  • Ambra gets 300 overshield when she’s about to die, so functionally she has 600 shield, not 300 - but I only recorded her here as 300 because I believe it’s possible for her to die before the OS triggers (on taking massive damage.) She is actually the tankiest of these characters when that OS passive is factored in
  • Alani has access to 30% DR at level 5, which makes a tremendous difference, but is situational
  • Caldarius, Deande, Ambra all have life steal
  • Alani, Ambra, Reyna can self-heal. Reyna typically has an overshield
  • Caldarius has the game’s median health/shield pool. Anyone who falls below Caldarius is in the lower 50% of health/pool totals across the full cast.

But anyway. The point is, even measured against other small hitbox characters, a fully tricked-out Mellka (Eldrid Rhythm and 10 stacks) only manages to nudge to the half-way point of the squishier, skinny hitbox characters. And she loses these stacks on death and has no realistic way to build them in Capture, so these health levels are entirely situational - she will spend at least some of the time with significantly less health. Against certain team comps, or in the hands of an inexperienced player, Mellka will not perpetually enjoy this enhanced health pool.

Worth noting too that around the time I quit, level 5 had become the Meltdown endgame.

And obviously, when you add all the other, much sturdier, bigger hitbox characters, Mellka (and all of the above) are left trailing behind.

I’m not rejecting out of hand the idea that health stacking on Mell is powerful - just that she, out of the entire cast, deserves to have a really squishy first five levels on the notion that she’d be grossly unkillable if she had more base health. My personal preference has always been for a base health bump, an Eldrid Rhythm nerf, and for other people to just get better at shooting her / locking her down (seriously, it’s rough to punish slippery Mell players just for being agile with her!) I agree health stacking on Mell is very effective - but it’s effective on many characters as well.

edit: Also, not sure where to fit this in - but in a game with many extremely high-damage area effect and crowd control abilities (including many devastating ults), having a tiny hitbox is an advantage but not a guarantee. Mellka being “hard to kill” is an issue of enemy team comp and player skill. A team with the right toolbox, and the knowledge to use the tools in them, can shut down Mellka if not by killing her then by threatening her to an extent that she’s reduced to her now-very-weak harassment game.

I want an exclusive Phoebe skin and title. Or, you could strip everyone of their Phoebe titles and lock her indefinitely for everyone, except me.

Also, give me green bar in every match, regardless or server. No, always match me to an Australian server so everyone else has red bar every match!

Granted
But no redbar for us. Hell no.

And also aren’t expected to melee for optimum damage output. The devs have said that Mellka is, by design, now supposed to be meleeing (venom is basically useless if you don’t).

There’s a good reason that in my list above, Deande and Caldarius have markedly more health/shield than the others. They’re meant to fight in melee-to-mid range. Mellka is now forced into that same range (where her evasive tools and hitbox don’t mean much - her melee chain only works if she’s flat-footed). But even with ten stacks of Eldrid Rhythm, she’s more fragile, and without Eldrid Rhythm she’s not even close.

Bottom-line, when venom damage went down, her health should have gone up.

I suppose you’re not on PS4, so the compromise is she’s open on Xbox and PC :stuck_out_tongue:

You know I like to melee, and I even liked to melee with Mellka despite everyone telling me how impractical it is, so I’m all for a melee-based Mellka, but this is indisputable. Her health and melee damage should both be increased, and -

  • that needs to change if she’s ever going to be viable as a melee character. In fact, I think her entire kit needs a rework, including removing the silly pushback elbow at the end of her combo, if she’s to be a melee character. That’s too much work though, damn it Gearbox revert Mellka back to her former glory already. Hell, give her cloak back too! Once upon a time Mellka was a top tier threat, so many characters have been buffed since then plus there are five new ones, take her back to day one status already! If they think she was too strong back then, she wouldn’t be now with how radically the game has changed in the last year. Do the right thing Gearbox! And then there’s Boldur…
