Toby as far as I know, is available for PS4 only, unfortunately.

Wait, what?

Those two things aren’t related. Would it be more accurate to say:

“Well, I was planning on waiting for it go on sale anyway. Too bad I can’t play the penguin I wanted in the free beta.”?

Nope, I was going buy it if I liked playing the penguin, if not I will wait for sale/price lowering. I like penguins okay <3

Well, here is how toby plays and that might help a little. He is my favorite so I’ve done a ton of games with him and usually topping charts (especially pve).

Although he is a defender he plays very far back (think guarding the base). Don’t think this means your not actve, as his sniping skills are ridiculous. A charged shot or two will make most battleborn run in terror. I keep him in a good sniping lane and assist my team by helping focus down other battleborn or murdering minions from safety.

Plunking a shield in front of you increases the velocity of his shots (and damage with proper helix selection). This increases offense nicely while protecting your tiny cute tail. The cooldown seems fairly short too so if you need to move you won’t be out of luck.

His arc mine is not high on damage, but great utility. In pvp i choose the slow option. Tagging melee who are coming for you will greatly help escape. Trust me, you do not want near melee…or any enemy for that matter. Plunking them down in bottlenecks or where enemies are massed together is fun times. Occassionally i tag my teammates in the back when i see melee sneaking up to help them escape.

Luckily, Toby is king of escape. With 3 thruster charges that regen every 8 seconds he can get away very fast. These can be augmented to increase distance, gain a 4th charge, or allow a double jump.

His ultimate…is lackluster. With the right damage build, you will do more dps with charged railgun shots. The only time I use it is if I get to level 10, where I give it slow and then tag multiple enemies. Till then your normally better sitting back and sniping (which is where toby is safest.

I hope this helps you understand him abit and maybe give the game a chance early. Toby believes in you!

As long as you don’t get in the mindset “defender means fromtline and soaks damage” you can easily do well with Toby. My first few attempts were disasterous because of this. Once I realized the range of his railgun though (which is can you see it?), things got way better. He is the perfect little guard penguin.

Also if he curses he apologizes…heck if he kills you he apologizes. Most adorable lil guy ever. Just don’t say that to his face…he’ll murder you (and then apologize).

Well this really really sucks. I got my gf to start playing this with me solely based on her loving Toby and wanting to try him out. While this won’t stop me from getting Battleborn, I sure as hell won’t ever buy another Sony console/product ever again, they just lost me as a customer permanently.

Why?! Don’t get me wrong, companies do plenty of bad crap, but shelling out more money for earlier/exclusive Beta content isn’t one of them.

That’s your opinion, not mine. After playing with my gf through half the night, passing out and hopping back on the next day JUST to try and unlock Toby, which was the only reason she even wanted to try the game, only to find out after it said she unlocked it, then couldn’t figure out why she couldn’t pick him, then to find out about what Sony did, yeah I’m sorry but f* them, they totally ruined the game for us.

But Toby will be available for everyone once the entire game is released…No character exclusives for different platforms. He’ll be there for you to play in full penguin glory. :penguin:

First of all, you could have read any of the Beta news, it said that Toby was exclusive to the PS4 Beta. But that’s not my confusion.

My confusion is to why you’re not made with Gearbox or 2k Games, or the Battleborn team in particular. Why Sony?

Analogy:
I go to the Farmer’s Market and I talk to the farmer. The Farmer says he’s bringing Watermelons on June 10th. Everyone will have access to the same watermelons on June 10th. I offer him 10 thousand dollars to be able to look at the watermelons on June 3rd. Of course, he says yes, I can look at the watermelons!

Who are you going to be mad at?

Exclusives are used by companies to be the choice for people who only want one console. Blaming the company for wanting to push their product is silly. If you don’t have their console either go buy one, or just wait.

I was upset about the xbone exclusive on tomb raider, but I made my decision to not buy one. I won’t hate on microsoft for shelling out to get that exclusive. At the end of the day these are all businesses and they are doing what they feel is neccessary to ensure a profit.

And as said above, why blame just sony? Why not gearbox? Why not microft for mak8ng a counter offer or getting an exclusive to another character?

Analogy:
I go to the Farmer’s Market and I want to buy a watermelon for my gf who was really excited to try one when she heard they had them. So we get to the market after a long drive and walk up full of excitement, seeing the watermelons right in front of us. The farmer hands us the watermelon and then when we try to pay for it he says, “Sorry I can’t let you have it, this rich fella Mr. Sony was just here and gave me a ton of money not to let anyone that isn’t part of his family have one.”

So yeah, f* them, I’m not mad at the farmer(gearbox), I’m mad at Sony for ruining our experience with the beta. At the end of the day if I don’t like what a business is doing, I don’t have to buy their products, plain and simple.

I’m glad he won’t be exclusive when the game comes out and I hope I clarified why I feel the way I do.

Well that’s where you’re wrong, he wouldn’t have handed you a watermelon if it belonged to someone else. What Salesmen have you been around?

In any case it should make you want to buy a PS4 more just so you can get everything. And at least it’s not super exclusive compared to Batman games.

Quit being a baby and man up. And if you won’t man up then stop whining, you aren’t going to get sympathy.

Toby is fun to play, and funny with his little quips through the fights. I admit though I kinda suck at playing him, but going to use the tips someone posted earlier, cause I was trying to play him as a frontliner like Montana or Boldur.

But I will point out that the analogy is still incorrect:

THIS is what happened. I’m sorry that you “wasted” your time. But spending all night playing the game sounds like a good time to me!
