BL1 - hardcore playthrough?

Barrels, lingering grenades, and cheap vehicle deaths, the ugliest deaths in 1Life/Hardcore runs.

Dust yourself off, go back to the Start screen, and build another character. Part of the fun is the failures along the way.

Yeah, already did. Maybe I can do this one in less than 8 months…?

Started again, of course.

Got a Sticky grenade mod from one of the skags during the stolen food mission…don’t think I’ve ever had that before. No grenades, but a mod.

Also learned something new and fun - you can crit with said sticky grenade if you manage to stick it right on Nine-Toes’s face!

And, my normal reminder of why maybe @RavenOfArisia 's MO of selling T-Bone Junction guns may not be such a bad idea:

Exactly why. Nothing more frustrating to me to find a good/legendary item in a vendor and not be able to buy it.
Actually TPS is the worst for that, no place to grab lots of cash, been irritated in that game a number of times by a tease in the vendor.

If there is a legit exploit - why not use it I say!

I’m pretty new to BL, working on a Roland that is PT1 level 25ish and a Brick that is PT1 level 15ish. This post has been fascinating to read through. What exactly is the bug with this gun? (Double Wildcat)

It’s just very lackluster, not even as a legendary, but even compared to many purple SMGs. Big magazine with low accuracy just isn’t useful in any situation. If it’s supposed to be a close range SMG then it’s absolutely out-classed by any Anarchy.
It’s not bugged, it’s just… bad.

gotcha!

I started what will be my final hardcore Brick run.

Getting off the bus, the chest on top of the Fyrestone motel had a level 4 white Jakobs GGN20 Plywood Sniper (barrel 3) that would later be put to good use. The other weapon was a white Tediore Repeater. After the gate was opened, ran in and took cover while shooting at the first three bandits with the starter Vladof Shotgun. One of them hit me once to bring me to 96 health, but one of them dropped a health vial to bring it back to 100. Of the next three bandits, one managed to hit me to bring me back to 96 health again. Picked one off at a distance with the white Tediore Repeater and used the Vladof Shotgun to finish the other two. Replaced the white Tediore pistol with the white Hyperion Repeater in the chest. Did not get hit again while killing the rest of the bandits with the Hyperion Repeater and hit level 2 off of the last one. Talked to Zed and killed the bandits right after without getting hit. Killed all the skags needed to purchase a shield without getting hit and finally bought the starter shield as I could not afford the item of the day one.

Hit level 4 by killing some bandits right before talking to TK, quit using the white Hyperion Repeater, and equipped the Jakobs Sniper that would carry me for awhile. Once in Skag Gully, killed everything and hit the chest near the echo recorder and the one near where Scar is later. The Scar chest upgraded the Sniper to a level 4 white VRR9 Jakobs Sniper (barrel 2) that was to last me until level 19. Went and killed Nine-Toes and his skags, returned to TK, Zed, hit the bounty board, and back to TK. In Skag Gully, killed everything again, did the side missions, got a rocket launcher from the good chest that was immediately sold, got a poor Blue S&S PPZ7.3 Sniper from TK that was immediately sold, killed Bonehead, jumped Piss Wash Gully, talked to Zed, hit the bounty board, talked to Shep, and went to the Lost Cave having reached level 11 by this point. Proceeded to farm the Worms for experience and loot one of the chests until level 20. Remarkably, that chest refused to upgrade my sniper rifle in a meaningful way and that white level 4 Jakobs Sniper was only replaced by a white level 5 Vladof GGN9 Sniper (barrel 4) shortly before hitting level 20. Shield was upgraded to a level 13 Tediore 5XC Panacea that recharges so slowly that it does not make up for its high capacity. Grenade is a level 13 green Tediore Contact, but I have not thrown a single grenade up to this point. I intended to but never found the need. Load out also includes an unfired Bone Shredder that acts as a place holder and a level 16 blue Dahl Shotgun I used to break the shock crystals.

This is definitely the worst gear I have ever had at this point, but next it is time to go finish off Fyrestone and hope any Semi-Automatic Sniper Rifle pops up at some point. Skill point allocation order is Berserk 1/1, Endowed 5/5, Revenge 5/5, Rapid Reload 5/5. Weapon proficiency is 13 in Sniper and 0 in everything else. Since having a shield, enemies have not managed to break it yet. Even the 4 health damage that was healed by hitting level 2 would have been covered by any of the health vials that came way later as I did not get hit up until then. Berserk has not been used yet because no healing has been needed. Character background is currently Jakobs.

Finished up Fyrestone. An enemy finally managed to break my shield with a normal grenade in Arid Hills but the Panacea had health back to full in less than a second. An enemy also hit me with a single round of gunfire but the Panacea again put health back at full in less than a second. Given a level 13 Panacea heals 5 health per second, any damage taken was comparable to what was received at level 1. It was disappointing to have the shield broken at all.

Used my awful gear to clear the bandits out at Lucky’s and was level 22 at this point. Decided it was time to retire the level 5 White Vladof Sniper and awfully slow recharging level 13 Purple Tediore Panacea shield by farming Lucky’s vendors and the red chest in back. I decided the farming purpose was for any Explosive Semi-Automatic Sniper Rifle with a x3 multiplier, decent Torgue Blast Master COM, and any level 22 Tediore shield. This was achieved through the vendors in about an hour with a level 22 blue S&S LB7 Blast Wrath Sniper (barrel 3, x3 Explosive), purple level 19 Torgue 550 Blast Master (with 5th line), and level 22 purple Tediore Restorative 550XC (slowest healing). Proceeded to experience farm the Guardians until level 24 while hitting all chests and vendors in the area. Master Blaster is now 4/5. Sniper Proficiency is 15. Character background is still Jakobs. First chest legendary was an incendiary level 19 Torgue Redemption that was immediately sold.

Next up is a little more Guardian farming until level 25 and then fighting Mad Mel on foot. The gear I have now will likely carry me until the Crimson Fastness, but I may try to vendor farm a better Explosive Sniper later on if I feel the need to.
