I could only see that working if it gave bonus damage based on slam height as well and maybe some other melee bonus effect cause it’s a bit neutral and would get phased out of builds, definitely something that could be added though. Maybe a mission reward

Yeah, someone had mentioned adding a double-jump for getting up high enough to slam without a ledge and these are about the best suggestions I have heard to make is viable.

Only thing i can see them doing in regards to this would be an artifact “makes slam have no height elevation requirement” though my guess it wouldnt be as strong since the “rear ender” prefix is already to buff the slam

Artifacts that shoot projectiles apparently are buffed by Melee damage

…like the projectiles are enhanced by melee modifiers?

For example, launchpad rockets count as melee. Same with rocketboots.

Found it a little odd i didnt get ammo from a cutpurse rocketboots; maybe i should’ve kept it as it could have been fixed in future…but i promptly dropped it off a cliff anyway

slamming is worth if you have spark plug, outside of that the animation delay before your screen centers and you can shoot is simply not worth it.

I really appreciate the slams the way it is, i only feel that it should be a bit stronger to encourage the usage.

I’m still trying to wrap my head around both the slam and slide mechanics. Slam looks like a better fit for lower gravity, and indeed about the only place I’ve used it so far has been Skywell - you can jump higher and there’s more verticality in every mobbing area. I think one of the planets also has slightly lower gravity than Pandora?

I’ve only noticed it on Skywell, unless I forgot.
You only need a little elevation boost, like a single step or a little incline if you jump downhill if you time it right for the slam mechanic to work.
The Spark Plug is great because it’s basically a spherical AoE, where I think the magma/acid/radiation/ice pools are two-dimensional (like besides any thrown shards or whatever, enemies need to walk on the surface to be affected). I even use the Spark Plug when fighting Rakk (and as a ghost shield), since they’ll fly in range when swooping at me.

How do you get best use out of slide? Do you aim to slide into a target or slide past them?

I slide to continue shooting or going past cover without being hit. With a slide relic, I’ll use it to navigate more quickly while carrying weapons that slow your run like the Ruby Rose or whatever the atlas rocket is called. You can really keep moving and negate the penalty that comes with heavy weapons. Really good addition for Moze if you like big explosions and high navigability.
As for slam, I only use it for fun sometimes. The relics are not worth the loss of some other bonus and slam isn’t strong enough without it. On console, you also have to spend extra energy and time aiming for a platform, jumping to it, then aiming where to jump, all time that could have been used just simply killing the target. Even if you only use it as an opener, it’s a huge opportunity cost to keep a relic that benefits you mearly seconds into a 40 second fight.

They imported the mechanic from Pre-Sequel, which had a lot of low gravity areas, but BL3 only has one small low-gravity area (thankfully), so it doesn’t really work in BL3.

Wonder if they intend to expand this later by adding more to the mechanic or lowering the gravity in more places?

No idea… they might add another small area in a DLC to try to justify it’s existence, but really they should takes people’s advice and try to improve the mechanic so it has a more universal way to use it.

If they lowered the height to regular jumps, I could imagine some cool builds being made around it. There are decent relics that would be useful then.

Depends on the relic. With the snowball one, I slide right into them. The ball will impact right before I get there, so they’re frozen (if not solid) by the time I hit home). However, with my Atlas Zane, I slide past them with the snowball one because the tracked shots will hit the target as I slide by, and I want to maximize my high-speed time for the Violent Movement buff. The ones that chain shock, I slide past to increase the shock time (because I’m usually sliding through a mob, so I want the damage spread out). As I type this, I’m using an “Unleash The Dragon” relic, and am sliding right into them to light them on fire.
As a serial slammer, I can confirm that it works great. It really takes a very small addition in elevation for it to work, and with mantling an ability here, even more elevation is available for this.
