Borderlands 3 and Leakers

The information he released was generally days to weeks ahead of 2K/Gearbox releasing it, and was only a fraction of the news that would get out by their marketing team. Plus, nobody is making anyone view the videos if you don’t want spoilers or for instance - ONE, count, one, of Flak’s skills

Edit: Plus Take Two/Gearbox has a campaign to MAKE you watch what are basically info videos/gameplay spoilers to earn points for in game rewards. Making this a really fruitless argument

He is doing that since last year (i am sub to him at the time he came back as a content creator). The leaks are mix with his theorycrafting, but when he says “from my inside sources” usually it turns out true.

There are a lot of info he spill like skill trees, wainright jakobs etc etc. and when he do a reviews of the trailers he is confirming those info he gets.

That is also i think the basis why the investigation is 10 months in.

I agree.

“Who’s” he getting this “inside” info from before a week or two before the developers even release this info out

Like I said above we need more back story of “why” 2k started there 10 month investigation prior what SupMatto previous leak videos he made.

There must be a logical reason behind all this.

Anything worth experiencing doesn’t need to be a surprise to enjoy it.

The publishers have a marketing strategy and his leaks are damaging that for profit. if they take him to court he is going to want to have a truely epic crowdfunding campaign.

The publisher has rthe legal right to decide when and how they release their IP to the public. it doesn’t matter if you like or dislike the publisher or the leaker.

They show off gameplay, I’m fine with that.

They show a little bit of the Story here and there I honestly don’t mind, as long as they don’t tell the whole story or the plot then we should be fine imho

So I wasn’t the only one seeing about 90% of his newer videos gone. After over a hundred claims/strikes they for sure can’t use the “don’t want to punish a superfan”-excuse anymore. They aren’t just destroying his YouTube channel, not even just all his social media (except Twitter), they are destroying him.
I mean they probably wanted to show what they are capable of, show their power, but what they’re doing right now is more like “killing a fly with a nuclear bomb”. It’s total Overkill.

Probably should have kept the thread locked, but I’m not mad. Like, where is this going.

SupMatto channel was going to be completely deleted in 7 days, 2k are now destroying him more because what going on with other YT’ers spreading the word what 2k did to him.

That’s what I see what’s happening why he got 100+ videos of his strike down.

Yes, as there is literally no reason anymore to strike the videos. I mean, his channel will be terminated anyway. Everything after that is nothing but a display of sadism. It’s a big “don’t ■■■■ with us” to literally everyone. I can only hope that SupMatto and his wife are ok. Let’s hope for the best.
Also, even if there is substantial evidence of SupMatto breaking the law, this doesn’t give them the right to go beyond the boundaries of law just to destroy him even more. There is legal right and there is what’s going on now: Disproportionally eradicating someone just to teach a lesson.

Nope, there is legal right and that is all.

I imagine if it was your IP he was making a profit from showing on youtube, you might have a different view.

It was legal right to strike down the leaking imagery, not God knows how many videos of older games that stand under fair use.

Also, it doesn’t matter who’s IP it is, law is law.

Edit: And sure, my viewpoint would be different, if I had an IP. I for one would try to protect said IP without ruining it’s reputation.

No, they are abusing the DMCA, which is illegal - that is unless, I’ll state this one more time, you side with Nintendo’s viewpoint that any and all gameplay and discussion about the games via YouTube is copyright infringement - and they’ll get away with it. If that is 2Ks stance though, every person who creates content for their games has to understand they’re at risk for the same backlash should they do anything 2k deems “crossing the line”.

Many of the videos taken down had nothing to do with leaks. And I would argue that if they were willing to go this far, they would bring legal proceedings. They have a flimsy case, they know it, so they’re throwing their weight around.

Everybody who sided with 2k on this is talking like he released major plot spoilers or something. All the videos were snippets of info that I can recall. We can talk about ruining marketing, but where. I can’t think of anything he released that would have given you even close to the information they would release soon after. If I could think of an example where he stomped all over something they were working to market I would agree with this argument of damages to their marketing campaign, but I can’t think of one.

Someone cute an example of something that ruined the surprise of something they were about to release and we will talk. I’ll give you, maybe, the leaks last year on the playable characters? But at the time even I thought it was BS, and if I recall that information came via Reddit. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

How i see it developper work there ass off and they still leak ■■■■ but you know who are we to just surf the internet and find these fkg leak that those trash develloper just let happen and who are we to discuss leak dude if they dont want leak DONT LEAK ■■■■

I would agree with you if I could see any truly detrimental effects. But I don’t see it. Again, I implore someone to make a convincing argument based on the content of one of his videos where it went too far - so far that it began to hurt the IP.

IF, 2K or gearbox did only just that one thing, the outrage would die out completely. So far the statement they released pointed to pretty benign videos for all intensive purposes. If that’s what we have to agree to disagree on then so be it. But at the point they deserve the backlash because a lot of people feel differently about how “damaging” this content was.

If there were monetary losses, or expected viewers for a marketing release that fell below expectations and they believe it was due to the videos, show it and prove it or at least provide the argument

That wasn’t their decided course of action though. Their decided course of action was carpet bombing his YouTube. I think that alone is childish.

Either that got mad because of the backlash and/or they got mad because some of the copyright strikes didn’t stick so they pushed the knife further.

No. They shouldn’t lock the thread as long as it stays civil.

Where is this going? I don’t know about everyone else but I hope one of two places. One, someone provides an actually convincing argument that we shouldn’t feel sorry for SupMatto or angry at 2K.

Or Two - someone from 2K or gearbox has the guts to provide more explanation in some form - because what they’ve provided so far has been inadequate. I’m hoping if the discourse remains open on their forum it will at least provide some of the incentive to make that happen. If there is pending legal proceedings then that won’t happen anytime soon but even based on the lawyer that commented for Inside Gaming their case isn’t that good, because he didn’t bypass any security on twitch as was originally reported so they have to prove he was charging for information on discord which, in my estimation, is also a stretch.

The most likely scenario. His YouTube get shutdown and everything goes silent. Never a word again. In which case I won’t be able to enjoy this game and me buying it is a huge stretch. Which is really sad, because I actually want to be wrong at the end of this.

Good points. A very good story teller will reveal lots of “action” in promo trailers without ever truly revealing very much of a storyline’s twists and turns. These leakers wreck that.

If 2K Games starts constantly running around harassing content creators I’ll start to worry about it. Until then we’ve seen 1 over zealous content creator who makes gossip videos get crushed. That is 1 Leaker/Gossiper in the 10 year history of the Borderlands franchise. If it starts happening every month… I’ll worry about it. Until then… I’m good.

The UFC crushed Ariel Helwani. meh, he doesn’t do fight analysis videos… he does gossip and leaks UFC’s marketing plans ahead of schedule ruining the UFC’s “wow” factor. Likewise, if SupMatto did analysis and insight videos the way “Fallout Plays” provides analysis and insight… 2K Games would leave the guy alone. “Fallout Plays” stuff is amazing and insightful with ZERO GOSSIP.

It’s like a birthday gift. If you go to the store and watch your “whoever” buy it, wrap it and then hand it to you. Will you have a big smile of expectation, eagerness to see what you got, and all the other emotions? Hell NO !. Discovery of the game, as you play, is just as much part of the hype. So, yes leaking happens. Yes companies might dislike it, but you still need a restraint on how fast leaks happens. So if I have an employee that is leaking to his pals on YouTube et el, do I find him and fire him? How do I find out who it is? Who do I contact? So let suppose all 2k was doing was rooting out the mole. Yes I question the guys putting out the content publicly. It’s not some mass conspiracy, it’s we have a leaker and he/she needs to be held accountable as per maybe an NDA violation they had agreed to. Everyone slow down and look at it was yourself, and someone’s leaking your info. You know where it ended up. So interviewing the end sets you on the trail to the start. Detective 101. You don’t start a murder investigation at the arrest. You do it at the body, simple.

I love opinions stated as FACT. Never gets old.
