Borderlands 3 feels kinda empty compared to 1, 2, the pre-sequel, even the telltales series

Good word. I feel a mix between 1 & 2. I mentioned Presequel bc of Cryo, the jump attack and honestly Preseq ain’t a bad game. Just 2k Aussie went under(no pun intended) before they could release more content. Most folks agree that what is there is great. It’s just kinda trendy to ■■■■ on it now, so a lot of newer folks don’t give it a chance. Plus Melee Athena is bae. And Frag was hilarious fun

Your right on though, the bugs in BL3 will be worked out and it’s not by any means a bad launch. A lot of peeps are having issues with lag. Character drift is an issue. Having to tinker with advanced controller settings to make the game playable can be a hassle. This is pretty standard issue bugs though.

Let us old timer heads prevail. I might not trust Pitchfork but I got faith in Gearbox.

While I did find the humor in BL2 and even TPS more to my tastes, I don’t find BL3 to be ‘unfunny’ so far. The humor is there and I did have some laughs playing, it’s just pushing less of my buttons.

As for the game feeling empty, that I disagree with. If you compare BL3 with what BL2 had at launch, the amount of content and lore put into the game feels kinda similar to me. BL2 has been out for many years now and has had DLCs for most of that time, so I get why ultimately people feel BL3 feels empty in comparison, but when you compare both games at launch they feel similar to me in terms of amount of content.

There is a strange contrast to the scope of the game’s story and the scope of the game worlds.

Travelling the galaxy, visiting far away planets, opening vaults, and battling exotic beasts and baddies…

On the other hand- “planets” are just 1 or two themed zones. Yes they’re full of stuff, but we’ve lost the size of things. Pandora in BL2 was a huge interconnected world where landscapes flowed from one into another. In BL3 the galaxy is a collection of zones that you fast travel to.

Its tough. narratively we needed to leave and see the rest of the galaxy, but realistically there’s no way to pull that off and still have the game feel huge.

I like it alright, but yeah, the feel isn’t quite the same. It is difficult to articulate why exactly.

The look, feel, and movement kind of made a fish tank spring to mind.

It has some neat changes, but perhaps too many changes and not all of them for the better. While the graphics are higher quality, the NPC’s and environment seem more detached. The item data (when you glance at a item on the ground etc.) is a step back IMO, and it’s more difficult to read. All the text really. The dialogue and voice acting doesn’t really have the same seamless flow to it that 2 did. I’d agree that it leans more towards 1 than 2.

I’ll have to give it some time and adjust settings. But with 1 & 2, I was hooked straight away. Perhaps it’s just too much change all at once and one has to focus on getting used to that, so it takes away from the feel of the game initially. :man_shrugging:t3: We shall see.

Feels good to me overall. Humor seems about the same to me. However, I do miss the old Claptrap voice big time. That said, glad the character is still in the series.

As an older gamer (I am like 1400 years old in gamer years), the humor seems a tad more subtle to me. Which is ok. BL2 is an amazing game, but jokes like Butt Stallion did little for me. However, do love the butt stallion grenades in Bl3.

Claptrap especially feels wrong, at least in the earlier parts of the game. BL2 clappy was annoying, but also clever and brave and loyal. In 3, he seems helpless and cowardlike and stupid. They took all his redeeming traits away.

Its because for the first time in the borderlands series the attention isn’t on you. Your not playing as a character who has deep ties to Pandora or the main cast. Your basically a Merc answering a help wanted poster. Notice in pretty much all the story missions your with somebody who has been there from the start. This is the end game of the series and and there creating an ending for these characters we have been following for 10 years now. Their answering all the questions fans would/will have once the game is at a final resting place. That is why it’s kind of hollow for the player cause we are just coming into this after all of what happened in B1-B2. I’m sure when the DLC’s start coming out the focus will turn to you again and then it will seem more like home .

Hi all!

Sorry for my very late reply.

After completing the game and a variety of side missions, I’ve come to the conclusion, I don’t like this game sadly.

It’s annoying, I want to love this game so much, I really do, being a die hard fan of borderlands 1, 2, the presequel and my most favourite of all - tales from the borderlands.

I have to say, the gun play, new mechanics, loot and playable characters are fantastic. Shooting feels so good and the urge to keep playing to find that next legendary - oh my that’s addicting.

The story? Wow I hated that. Coming from an aspiring writer, I just don’t see what was so good about them.

Not just the writing, I feel that the voice actors - they did a convincing role of pissing me off and not liking them, but to the point that whenever they were on screen, I just had to stop. Grinding sessions of the game I just had to stop when a cutscene came on, I’d turn off my TV and go outside.

They were too emphasised, too sharp and had rewritten humour from BL1 + BL2.

Also - the whole build up of the story from the pre sequel… where on earth is that?!

Obviously it’s very hard to beat handsome jack, but even Commander Steele was better than the twins.

I get that they’re probably saving story and characters for dlc, but in my honest opinion, the twins would’ve been better dlc characters.

The locations, gunplay and some returning characters - muy fuego, very good, lovely stuff.

The pace of writing, the villains and the voice acting - much left to be desired.

I wished that the VH’s had more personal ECHO’s. One was not enough. The character responses inspired by TPS was present, but it felt even more formulaic.

For me the worlds felt empty. In my opinion the new fog of war system just doesn’t work. I find that I spend a good 70% of the time removing the fog of war to find what are essentially glorified collectibles. I feel like the company spent so much time building environments that they forgot to actually populate those worlds with content I.E side quests.

Agree completly. There should also be way more enemys. Hopefully dlc expands on what we already have and some new areas.

Totally agree.

I would deliberately go behind waterfalls, look in every nook and cranny. Lectra city had some good exploration going on but overall I felt it was totally un rewarding, I mean there are huge sections of the game which are just empty, no boxes, no vault symbols to find, no interesting graffiti or posters. Literally areas to explore with nothing in to find…

The story, well its sucks. They dropped the ball on the story. Missed out fan favourite characters in favour of pushing new, frankly annoying, unearned characters like its the Last Jedi or something.

Gun play is great, but there is a massive emphasis on the fact ZERO play testing was done, which you can tell from the way review copies were handed out. They rushed the game out, despite having years to make it, it seems that they missed a crucial step - actually testing the things they made.

Mayhem mode feels untested
Iron bear… well we know that was never tested in M3
The nerfs and buffs of same skills
Troys screaming

These are such massive red flags for me, I dont buy games on release anymore for this reason. They are all coming out unfinished - this is literally early access and as a BL2 player of hundreds of hours, I find this game shallow, hollow and devoid of any charm.

The humour is lacking, as in there isn’t any, the villains feel… OP and out of no where, badly written and missed the mark again.

There seems to be a weird dynamic in gearbox, they had a good thing and now, with BL3 it shows they don’t have that same creative spark, the lightning in a bottle which they created the first and more so with the 2nd game.

I’ll probably pass on DLC until it comes out in a chunk

Tbh I stopped playing at like World 2/3 as I just got bored of the game. Whereas with BL2 I could play it from normal mode to ultimate mode without a break. Gearbox has dropped the ball.

This 100%.

Not sure why they had to get away so far from such a nice formula, but in BL2 I actually enjoyed doing NVHM to UVHM and seeing my character progress and how he was changing and becoming more powerful.

Now I just want to speed run through the campaign and it feels like a slog.

The game feels incomplete because all the REALLY juicy stuff is going to be in the DLC. I’ll be very surprised if it isn’t.

There are plenty of juicy tidbits in the game as it is now. The combat is fun up until the endgame. Humour is subjective, some of it I loved and some I hated. The lore is greatly expanded upon in B3(my favourite thing) but it raised far more questions than answered.

Only having like one eridian tablet mention the watcher grinds my gears. Pretty dirty move to save it for DLC as I am expecting now if that is what they do.
