61 also. The introduction of RPGs on personal computers ( Temple of Apshai on my Apple ][ in 1979) meant I didn’t have to go find a bunch of folks to play D&D on a table anymore, and the rest is history.
Though I do still think about things happening in a game (even something as advanced as Borderlands) in terms of character sheets and lots and lots of dice rolling.

67 this November. A Dad of 2 and a Grandpa of 2! Love the franchise! It is way shooter and looter is supposed to be!
35,but my Borderlands co-op budy turned 70 2 months ago. Proud 10 years of vaulthunting. Can’t wait for 13th.
I too am a proud Dad. Bout to hit 40 this year and i am very greatful for this life of mine. I’ve met some good people while running in the Borderlands over the years. Even learned a few new things not game related by reading these forums. I hope that all of you fine folks have a great day, and that good fortune shines your way. Stay healthy.
I’m 40, turning 41 next weekend.
“Technically” a Daddy as I have a 4 year old Border Collie called…
Handsome Jack
I’m a youngin’ I guess at 44, but don’t you realize that video games grew up with us, brother? I’m not a father, so I get more the luxury to behave like an older kid than those of you with parental responsibility, but I think those of us who are healthiest are kids at heart. I don’t know about you, but I never received my “adulthood membership packet” when I turned 18.
A watershed moment for me in my young “adult” life was when I saw a billboard that showed a picture of a woman and asked “What are you getting him for Christmas?” It was an ad for PlayStation. That’s when I really realized that our society had accepted that video gaming was now a part of adult culture (or at least marketing departments did hahahaha).
Now that I’ve typed that, I would also like to say it’s nice that female gamers have become more accepted (despite still there being many bumps in the road around that) since that ad was extremely biased toward gaming only being a masculine enterprise.
As far as I’m concerned, I’ll be gaming until I die.
A father and pushing 40 as well. The BL games occupy 90% of what I play, occasionally jumping into something else for a short bit. Hell, I will be playing BL games until one of the following three things happen:
- I die
- Crippling arthritis prevents me from being able to hold a controller
- The world ends, in which case, go back to number 1
My god, Pandora was one of them Retirement Communities all along.
Kind of inspiring to see people from the age of the Eridians still enjoying the game.
Oh man, getting flashbacks of the “space dads” from Elite: Dangerous. A good kind of flashback
Good response Flint! I love hearing of those in our age demographic so passionate about this game and to hear those well into their 60’s & 70’s speaks volumes as to how far reaching this game is.
@Grimm-one… cheers man!
Thanks, brotha! I love this thread and how many of us are aging gamers! I started with Atari 2600 and went through Atari 5200, NES, Sega Genesis, then PlayStation and have stuck with PS, since. Built my first gaming PC back in February and am LOVING M&KB with FPS games. AND just bought a new display in anticipation of the B3 drop.
CAN’T WAIT.
Oh, and my PC has a name, BTW…”Meat Bicycle.”
I’m 63. Didn’t really do much console gaming, started PC gaming in the late 1990s. Been a Borderlands fan (with thousands of hours in BL1 and BL2) since 2010.
48 here. Been gaming since I had a Mac Plus with external floppy drive in High School. Been a PC gamer my whole life - consoles blow! I’ve always built my own gaming PCs and think I need to replace my 980ti/i5-6600k system I’m on now before BL3 comes out.
58 here and pre ordered B3 after playing all the rest in the franchise.
As I like to say, “as long as this hand can hold a mouse!” . . .
Love this, thank you!
Also, 45 single dad of 1 here. Been playing the series since 2011. Thousands of hours into the series. Sept. 13 can’t get here soon enough. Feel free to hit me up for co-op if you like.
XBOX GT- UNLO4D3D
PSN ID- UNLO4D3D24-7
I love this thread. I only qualify for the Dad part. In another 10 years the 40 part.
Those 10 years will go fast - make the most of them.
Really enjoy reading all these responses… man hearing how long so many in this thread have been gaming reminds me when I was very young , my uncle( who was the coolest dude imaginable) said he might not be able to make Christmas that year. I was crushed and went to my room and didn’t want to be around anyone until I heard the doorbell ring. Sure enough my uncle showed up 2 hours late, fighting traffic all the way to not disappoint his nephew, with a big present for me. I tore it open to find, none other, than a Coleco Vision console. He even gave me the steering wheel attachment and the first game I ever played on that system was Zaxxon! To think of that game compared to how advanced something like BL3 is just amazes me on every level. Growing up in the 80’s, it’s crystal clear why this game will never get old.
