Borderlands Movie Actor/Plot Wishlist

They announced the writer he was talking about director

Ah thank you for the clarification i thought they announced the director did not realize it was the writer.

Obviously, Peter Dinklage must be Salvador.

In fact I’m not going to even start, make the entire Game of Thrones cast work on their accents and there’s your cast for Borderlands. Make Sean Bean Roland, you know because he dies x’D

Except for Handsome Jack, the antagonist has to be someone truly superb, like Johnny Depp or Bill Nighy. And I’m not just saying that because they were both in Pirates of the Caribbean, Bill Nighy is one of my favourite actors.

If Brick is Vin Diesel or ā€œThe Rockā€, I will be very very angry with you and I will write you a letter telling you how angry I am.

I don’t know, honestly I can’t think of a black actor who I think would make a good Roland. That was obviously a poorly delivered joke, I might edit it out before it gets me in trouble…

You reworded that, I deleted my previous, that’s about even.

Back on track, tho, I respectfully disagree for Sean Bean as Roland for…reasons. Also, while I’m still suggesting David Ramsey (John Diggle from ā€œArrowā€), but what about D.B. Woodside?:

What would your borderlands movie idea be? What’s the plot like, is it related to the game storyline, who is in it, and what is the ultimate climax?

Mine would be based off of the bl2 intro, where the vault hunters are on the train. The theme is that they are hired by handsome jack, who knows they are vault hunters, to protect the train. Jack then hires multitudes of enemies to try and kill the vault hunters, but all fails. They travel through multiple terrain, pick up Krieg and gaige, basically just like their announcement trailers( I didn’t see gaige’s so don’t kill me) and then for the final sequence it’s the robot train fight, which is at a much larger scale, but has the same ending, but the final ending is a birds eye shot of claptrap finding one, who is unknown, and helping them up

Edit: also, they slowly warm up to each other over time, and give their background stories that are found throughout bl2. Except for Krieg, who should random psycho things, but doesn’t harm them(too much)

That could actually be a cool way of using the BL2 characters and story without having the budget reach unfilmable heights. I’d actually like that. The only problem I see with that idea is the lack of a satisfying climax and actual meaningful fight with Jack. It could feel too much like a ā€œpart 1 of a trilogyā€ or ā€œjust a trailer for a bigger movieā€, something that I’m really tired of.

I understand that, but around 90% of the people watching the movie will know borderlands well, at least the story, so this can lead up to it, and can help give a better sense of background and beginning, like how they came together after the first vault and stuff like that, which could make it a true ā€œpre-sequelā€

And for the other 10% if they see the movie and are confused about the plot, they will more than likely look online for help, where they will find out that they should play the game to find the closure they want.

And as for the handsome jack ultra fight, that would amazing, but also illogical, as the vault hunters have the super fight in the game. What they could do is have ultra fights with other important alliances of handsome jack, like Wilhelm, but Wilhelm escapes after almost being defeated, and they also fight Helena pierce, but over time find out that jack is trying to kill them and try to get off the train but find out that it’s too late, then the final super fight happens

I dunno, that still sounds like an unfinished story to me, narratively speaking. If you have to look elsewhere to get the whole picture and find closure, the movie has failed in its narrative. I have the opinion that a film needs to have all the info necessary to comprehend the story within itself and a satisfying beginning, middle and end, structure wise. But l still think the idea is interesting, from an adaptation point of view. Like you said, maybe they could bring in some other stuff from BL1 and change the story a bit to make it work as a standalone film. Your idea is certainly a lot better than the ā€œtell a completely new, smaller and unrelated story set in the game’s universeā€ idea that I see a lot of people throwing around.

I agree, as people would be a lot more familiar with characters they know than just some random people that happen coincide in some small way with the events of the games.

Although, I believe that having known characters would also mess up a plot, as since they are so involved in the plot it would be hard to come up with a sense of closure without starting from the games story.

Some seperate character stories before the vault hunters meet up would be a good idea I think, a little backstory before they all meet could be pretty cool and help build into the main story whatever that may be.

I just had another idea that would be close knit with the borderlands verse but wouldn’t interfere. In the caustic caverns there are these eridian statues, which could mean another vault.

My thought is that you start with sanctuary, with tannis and other diggers, who when they start digging, discover evidence of a vault. They dig and find its entrance and then fight their way to the actual vault, and get whatever is inside it. This leads tannis to start studying the vaults, which puts her in the borderlands storyline.

This all happens before bl1 of course, kind of like the ultimate prequel. This introduces the idea of vaults to viewers and gives the sense of closure that people want

is the thread still on? btw, am I the only one who thinks that Athena looks INSANELY similar to Charlize Theron? Heck, even the voice sounds the same.

I can definitely see what you mean.

I think that would be a bit out of the range of price/time on screen ratio.

Also, she’s already part of a famed desert wasteland franchise.

Also, this thread is a bit immortal. No real expiration date til after the film is released.

absolutely agree but I really hope that they don’t mess this up by hiring actors that have no resemblance to the characters in the game. I never loved a game as much as I love the Borderlands franchise and it really deserves a great movie  slight_smile:

A lot of talented actors resemble (albeit slightly) a good deal of the cast.

The real challenges I feel will be hiring people for the likes of Salvador and Brick (due to their peculiar dimensions)

And I cannot stress this enough;

Handsome Jack.

I wonder if they’ll really use all the vault hunters, thought they’d be doing the story from 1 find the vault kill the destroyer.

If any of this has been said previously I aplogize. The story should be set between the pre sequel and bl2. I want to see Ashley birch riding on vinnie jones’s back throwing grenades at bandits!! They would be able to showcase the first fight with the original vault hunters fighting wilhelm. As far as who plays who… Well vinnie Jones as brick, and nobody should play tiny Tina but Ashley birch herself… Kevin spacey or Edward Norton for handsome jack. The dude that plays finn in star wars 7 as roland, scarlet johansen for lilith, Ellen paige for angel… Johnny depp as mordecai, Sarah silverman for tannis… Hally berry for nisha, Hugh jack man for wilhelm… I don’t think Athena was involved during this time period so we wouldn’t see her.

I like most of these ideas, particularly Dwayne Johnson as Brick.

But I’m a nitpicky kinda person and I feel I have to point out that you have a daughter who is 15 years older than her mother. Moxxie and Ellie. I know Moxxie looks young for her age but DAMN. (Still better than Rebel Wilson as Ellie though as I saw one suggestion.
