Hello everyone.
Just finished playing trough both HW1 and HW2 campaigns and I wanted to go play some skirmish . It’s all good but i expected to have at least some maps from the story mode available to play in skirmish mode.
Some of the HW1 maps like the graveyard and almost all HW2 maps, especialy those from the progenitor/keeper missions are really beautiful.
Is there a way to play these maps in skirmish, or at leats is there a MOD that does that?
Thank you.

It wouldn’t be hard to convert the campaign maps into multiplayer maps. The problem would come in making the maps play well in a multiplayer setting. Where would the other players go? Should there be more resources? These maps weren’t designed to have multiple players on them.

Mikail’s map pack has a “Veil of Fire” map in it, which is a HW2 campaign map converted to multiplayer/skirmish 1v1. It’s the one with radioactive derelicts all around that you have to destroy to hyperspace away. He replaced the radiation clouds with dust clouds. It’s a really nice map, I love it.
I would also like all the campaign maps to become available for skirmish. A useful idea would be to have a “Custom” map option that allows you to select a specific background, but use a specific map format (eg use Super Nova Station background, but map is formatted like Fields of Plaz), creating infinite opportunities for different maps. Not sure if multiplayer is modular enough for that, but definitely would be worth considering for main game.

Yap selecting map background prior to the start would be interesting. Wouldn’t even have to be in a custom map section. Just add an additional button default and then all the other available backgrounds you can choose from including custom BGs if there are any in a specific folder. Company of Heroes had something similar just there it was about weather conditions and day time.
At the moment those backgrounds are hard coded into the maps itself though. I’d imagine that would require a total rewrite of how the maps read their information unless some overwrite command could be get written.
