Can you save helix progression choices?

I know that the helix gets reset each match. I just want to know if you can define the progression in the character menu beforehand and save it so that you won’t have to chose each upgrade during gameplay when they become available.
I found this very tedious and inconvenient during the beta and would rather prefer it if this would happen automatically based on my pre selection.

I could dig this idea. I eventually got to the point where I memorized my choices and where they were in progression so it wasn’t much of a hassle, but this idea is a load faster and (while it could prevent adaptation or experimentation on the field) it could come is pretty handy.

This is a great suggestion but I wouldn’t use it myself, you might find yourself in a tough game where you’d want to choose differently to your usual helix choices based on the ebb and flow and you needing to play a different role or fill a role that is absent from the team.

This is a pretty common request, and honestly one I can see being implemented at some point. Like separate loadouts you select before a match like gear. I’m having trouble finding the words to describe it, so lemme just do this:

Helix type
Manual. Preset 1. Preset 2.

Wherin preset 1 and 2 are helix routes you determine through the command menus. Manual is still an option, as I imagine most true blue ranked players would still use, but the presets are there for ease of use by PvE and non-comperetive PvPers.

It’s kinda like how back in Counterstrike 1.6 you had to buy your your loadout each round. I sucked at that too and it cost my team. I think Evolve had the option to predefine your mutation path for the beasts. Never got around to play that game really. Went out of style before I got the gfx card to run it.

And with that many different toons and diferent roles around this becomes even more difficult. Might be hard enough to figure out which toon to pick if one can barely remember their role but memorizing all the helix choices too.

Personally I am definitely going to focus on Oskar Mike and like characters since I prefer assault rifles in any FPS and my loadout choices are always the same. Spray N pray with lots of hitpoint recovery and speed. And maybe some GTFO button.

I agree. Helix options should be similar to gear loadouts where you can set it before a match. Covering up the screen while in play was a bad design choice. Even if we can’t pre-load helix options maybe they can have it open up on the side of the screen and reduce the size of the image so it doesn’t cover up center view.

It’s annoying and repetitive fo have to answer the exact same questions over and over.

Or maybe not a “save helix” or “load out helix” exactly - but if you have already played the character through that level and choice maybe have a quick default answer capability.

Like right now you press d pad up to get the helix and then left or right trigger to choose. What if there was a default based on past choices that if you didnt want to have to read the options you could something like “d pad up + A” to quickly accept what you had chosen before. (Xbox controller there -not sure what it could be on PC or PS)…

Just something better than stopping the action every level up to read the choices and pick. Just a real quick up-A and done.

It only needs to work on characters and helixes where we’ve already made a choice. If its a new choice then the current system is fine.

Either way the repetitive helix choices which dont stick with a charater is going to get old for me real quick (it’s already annoying and I’ve only had the game 12 hours)

I think the idea behind the Helix is cool but I find having to stop shooting to upgrade my Helix every time I level up pulls me out of the game especially when trying out a new character that I am just starting to learn how to use. Montana for instance was so huge that hiding behind cover was impractical and I found I was going up several levels before I could bring up the Helix menu to apply upgrades because I was constantly getting shot at even behind cover. I think it would be great if you could mark down a preferred build in the character customization screen and then just have a toggle button in game that will automatically activate your preferred skill each time you level up. That way you can keep shooting and unlock upgrades as you go without having to wait until a pause in the battle or risk bringing up the menu and making a decision while stuff is shooting at you. Having played a lot of Borderlands 2, the idea of a levelling system that reset at the start of every match was a complete turn off to me (I still jumped in for the characters though), and being able to streamline that a little with saved builds would make it much easier to get into especially if I end up trying to play competitively. Ultimately people are going to create builds and not diverge too much from that so having an opt-in auto-unlock system just makes sense to me.

I figured there would be one. So used to the Bungie.net forums where a post is lost within like the first 10 minutes of trolls flooding the top posts >_> Still I do hope there’s enough people wanting to see this that it gets implemented!

I guess I’m a total newb with moba type games or something, but is the skill (helix) reset thing common for every match you play? Having to start over at level 1 each time you play a match is irksome to me. Never feels like you are every really progressing who you are playing.

The Helix system does reset after every match, yeah. You have a command level and each character has a permanent level, so there is progression outside of the Helix system, and also gear builds to take into consideration. I guess the helix is intended to be situational. I’d hate to set up my helix build before a match, then halfway through a particular session realise that a skill I’ve ignored could have been helpful or even vital.

I’m down for this, most of the time I stick to a certain helix type choice and it would be nice to not have to look at that menu when I’m doing battle.

I could see the potential for pre-defining the Helix up to a point. Like for me the first 5 levels are almost 99% of the time identical. So maybe have a system whereby it sticks to my standard choices for the first X levels. Then returns to manual.

Maybe as a side note we could get a prompt each time. Auto or manual for each lvl. Auto would stick to your pre-defined Helix. Manual would be the current way.

This would be a nice feature and you could always just turn the auto leveling off. I mean smite does this fairly well. You could also have it auto buy your equipment when you get enough shards. There has never been a game so far where i felt like one helix choice would change the game and its rather apparent to me that some helix builds are way better than others, so a set helix progression would be great. Also just stopping a a push to level up sucks.

While a preselected build would be nice, even i tend to favor some skills to a point i mostly choose them, but a having a preset build could potentially hinder you in a game where a character can be customized so much (skills and gear) and your stuck with your preselected build without the freedom to adapt to the situation. As for the being taken out of combat for the helix, it’s possible use it while moving so you can gain some time as you run to safe location, or you can use it on a fly

The point of the helix progression is to make you choose which option is better for the current match you are involved in. I think they just need to work more towards making the helix choices more balanced so you don’t end up with a predefined “preferred” helix progression set up.
