Can't believe how rubbish pick-up grouping is

I can’t believe how completely rubbish the pick-up group forming is in this game is (on PC don’t know if console is different).

You get to choose normal or advanced or Heliophage (advanced Heliophage - how?, hardcore - how?).

Then you wait and get between 0 and 4 more players before (without warning) you get a choice of 3 maps to vote on and if you don’t want to play that map or play with the number of players you got you can’t quit till the game as started. Rude to quit (unless you ended up solo) but what can you do.

Let players set which of the 8 maps are acceptable, which group sizes are acceptable, throw in hardcore and advanced option and match players on that.

I want the option to choose to play where and with how many even if it means I have to wait longer.

On PC at least, this doesn’t sound like an option. The player base is larger but not that large. They could make 16 queues, one for each mission, but that would be way too much. Marking which missions you’re okay with and adding hardcore would be too complicated, just play with a group if you’re going to do something that hard. Hardcore is not for random pub groups. I think 6 queues would work well. Two categories, normal and advanced. Three sub categories for each planet. 3 for Bliss, 3 for Ekkunar, and 3 soon for Tempest. Then you vote.

Heliophage comes up in advanced queue as well.

There is no queueing for maps or options. You are forming groups with compatible aims. If you selected all maps, normal and advanced, soft and hardcore and any party size then you would fit in any group and join one instantly (as long as at least one other person is trying to group).

If you select a particular map, advanced, hardcore, group size of 5 then yes expect to wait a long time to find 4 compatible others.

Thinking about it the group size would probably have to be specified as a minimum so you know when you can complete a group.

It would simply be too much. It’s already split between PVP and E. It would be nearly impossible to find even one other person at the same time with the same pinpoint specifications. So it wouldn’t be worth it, and would drive others matchmaking times down. In the long run, not worth the time it would take to implement.

Except it isn’t pinpoint, my suggestion has the option of being less pinpoint than the current system.

A recent review says “its co-op campaign with an abstruse storyline, compounded by the matchmaking system which essentially forces you to play missions randomly and out of order”.

What the game has now is just illogical garbage, if you want more players to make grouping faster you need to make the game better to attract and keep them.

The issue with it is that everyone will end up having specific requests. I doubt anyone would be okay with Hardcore Advanced Heliophage, and then that person would be left out to dry. And it would still be extremely complicated to implement. And the PC community is certainly not there yet.

I found a solution which seems to be used by many others. If you don’t like the map or number of players - or the look of the players (like command rank 4 in advanced mode). Just hit Alt-F4 and try again, quicker than waiting for point where the game gives you an option to quit.
