Cant Play Local Co-Op

Bought and downloaded the digital version on the PS4 so I could play with my fiance, like we’ve done with all the borderlands games. My main account is connected to PS Plus but the secondary account is not.

When he tries to log in with the account that is not connected to PS Plus it says “Player Initialization Failed”.

What’s going on?

This is concerning. If I have to pay for 2 PSN accounts ($150 per year in AU) I will have to reconsider. It’s only one physical console connected to the net!!

I am also having this issue. I remember reading that the local account should essentially be linked to the ‘host’ account (i guess what they did in Borderlands). Makes split screen kind of pointless.

I’ve been able to get a second local account on for split screen. I can also log into the game with it without my ps plus account being in the game, had the ps plus account logged in the ps4 at the time though.

Yeah, got the same problem here. I had to create a second account on my ps4 and connect it to psn in order to get split screen to work (just using a the guest option doesn’t work). The way local multiplayer is handled on ps4 is already crappy, but with battleborn we have something new, your guest accounts have access to exactly zero battleborns. You can replay the prologue with the second account in order to get a few heroes, but i’m certainly not going to try to unlock ■■■■ twice.

How did you guys get it to work locally? I try join as my local user ‘User1’ and get a ‘player initialization failure’, and i cant sign into PSN on this account as my other account is signed in and my PS4 is primary if that counts.

Did not know I had to be a wizard to be able to play split screen.

Im still in this same situation trying to figure out how to get it to work.

So i figured this out -

You have to create a separate PSN account for the second user and cannot use a local account (user1 for example) as the user needs to authenticate with the PSN. You can however piggyback off the PS+ from the other user, so two users and one subscription. Hope this helps.

Ah! This worked. Had to make another PSN account but didn’t need another PS+ subscription, which is what I was originally worried about. I wish they had it made it more clear that’s what you had to do, though. Didn’t have to do this with Borderlands so I was lost.
