If anyone here is a true MOBA player knows Captain Mode
I really hope they put this in the game some how for competitive play. Especially if we want this game to go in to ESL.
Captains mode is each team has a captain to pick there teams heroes “Battleborns”. Also being able to block the other team from picking heroes. Would be nice if we could also be able to block heroes for the other team, but still be able to pick them for your team.

na, the whole idea is to have the characters nice and balanced so picking one doesn’t have a adverse effect on the fairness of the battle. haveing no gear though is a more suited balance for comp.
Not to take away from your post at all, but I’d prefer it if GBX didn’t go the route of other MOBAs. I’m all for competitive play, but the pick/ban system would take too much away from this type of game. There will always be a meta, but BB might end up breaking the mold, considering how multi-faceted many of the characters can be. I like the idea of “you pick your 5 man team, we’ll pick ours.” I suppose we’ll see what pans out in the months to come, I just know I don’t want this to game to devolve into the typical MOBA of the must haves, must bans, nerf everyone process.

Just disable the RNG part of gear and it will be fine imo.

If it will become competitive, it MUST have that pick/ban phase. Counters are already in the game, so with a blind pick it is going to be “You pick your 5 man team, we’ll pick ours. And after we see your pick we give up, since we managed do get countered hard by a random chance” aka Rock/Paper/Scissors

If you just bail because you have been “countered” then your team is a sook and shouldn’t play competitive. I feel there are no super heavy counters in this game. better team will bet a worse team regardless of who they pick. So I defiantly stand with joey on this.
No need for the name calling man. And the idea that a ban must happen to be competitive seems a bit ludicrous. There’s already a small roster, and just banning 1 person per team gets rid of 10% of the roster, and we already know it’d be 2 supports. That’s why I like the whole everyone goes in blind mindset. Why play this like a “I have to counter your counter to my counter” never ending pain in the ass? It’s a new game, untouched, unsullied…find a different and crazy way to play. Either way, I’m excited to see what happens in each of the different game modes.

When I first read this title, I thought you meant a sort of sixth man. Someone who doesn’t interact with the match directly, but acts as an eye in the sky, directing teammates where they need to be. That would be awesome.
Oh man, I’m sorry but that would be so bad on so many levels. I mean, having an announcer that’s not even playing let everyone know when they’re about to get flanked because they didn’t watch their own backyard? Reminds me of gears of war 2 I think, when I’d die real quick and go in to spectator mode and let my team know exactly where everyone was and what they were doing

The only reason Captain Mode will be needed for is to not have people playing with the same character… Not to ban a player -.- … Do not bring that traditional MOBA toxic crap “If a character is not banned I’ll cry and quit” bull crap to this game. Just keep it out. This game was very balance to me. Some small changes may be needed but clean game. Gearbox please don’t allow banning of characters.
FYI that healer was easy to stop Lol smdh. Idk what they are already complaining about. @gearbox You made this game fresh and it was great as a beta. If youre going to allow banning…yall do it yourself and ban the character that’s “OP” until you can fix it. Players that cry about bans and how OP a character is… toxic to your game believe me…don’t listen to them plz

It is less than 10% and new characters will be introduced. For you it is a never ending pain in the a**, for many it is an interesting mind game and competition in mechanical knowledge of the game. And even though the game is untouched and unsuallied, it will get so soon enough.

Any competitive game will have a certain level of toxicity. Banning/Picking system has no correlation to it. Just look at CS for an example. Also, the picking system will have “if this character is not picked by us first, I’ll cry and quite”/“if this character is picked by enemies first, I’ll cry quite”. You don’t won’t that too? Then you’ll have “If we don’t get this character in our team, I’ll cry and quite”, “If you pick character I want to play, I’ll cry and quite”. THAT WILL NEVER END.
What we should be thinking about is competitive scene and ranked mode, how it should be balanced and how it should rely on strats/tactics instead of random chance of who gets the first pick or gets lucky with a blind pick.

To begin, if the pick/ ban system stays exclusive to the ranked mode, I’d consider it mostly harmless and about 90% of the player base won’t care.
As far as people crying and quitting because they don’t get their favorite character, or the other team has a certain character, let them. F**ck them, what are they, ten? They shouldn’t be playing competitively anyway.
See, because Battleborn’s big secret is that it’s an FPS. There’s three dimensions of movement, and there’s a way to get around every character’s abilities. Any character can kill at least twenty of the other characters, and any random number advantage can be countered by shooting them in the face.
An actual competitive team should have a plan, a start, and a contingency for every character. Be polite, be courteous, have a plan to kill everyone you meet. Apart from the occasional runaway like Ambra or something, bans should be entirely uneeded.
Don’t think this is needed on this game at all, characters are a lot more fluid and flexible - with the helix tree - than a traditional MOBA and actual teamplay and team dynamics will probably be much more important than what character you chose pre-game.

No banning. Just have the pros play different modes with the same characters. Toby and Marquis can be a pain in the ass on incursion together. In capture with so many sides to come at him he will probably be a hindrance. I say probably, cause i have only seen it played. I would like a replay mode. That would be cool to have to get better. But 30 min recordings would be horrible on the counsels i am guessing.
