Cloaked Fighters

So, I still don’t see the reason. Did cloak fighters have their damaged reduced significantly from the port or didn’t they?

I really don’t get where what you’re asking is coming from…

Not a single ship, Cloaked Fighter or otherwise, has its stats remotely similar to how they were in HW1C.
I don’t know what made you think that any of the HW1 ships in HWRM were similar to their original stats. o_O

They are completely made up and random with no similarities in stats to the classic ships.
They are based on similar HW2 ships but nerfed.

In HW1, the cloaked fighter stats were similar to a buffed scout (don’t forget that scouts were actually good. OP even)
Scouts did 3-5 damage in a 1.2s long burst every 2.2s and 0.17s between shots, and 4000 range.
Cloaked fighters did 8-11 damage a shot in a burst. I don’t know how long the burst was, except that it was the same 0.17s interval, and 5400 range. I think it was a pretty long interval though since I don’t remember cloaked being op.
Interceptors did 7-10 damage in a 1.4s long burst every 2.5s with 0.18s between shots, at 4500 range.

They’re be pretty good and more similar to how they were in HW1 with the changes scole is doing.

I’m back home so I was able to look back at the stats.

HW1

Scout - attack 12
Defender - 8
Interceptor - attack 26
Cloak - attack 39
Bomber - attack 42

HWR
Scout - attack 17
Defender - 27
Interceptor - attack 42
Cloak - attack 15 -----------------why so low???
Bomber - attack 163

I know the stats wouldn’t be the same, but just looking at what is listed, the cloak went from stronger than the interceptor to weaker than the scout. Why the change? The interceptor and cloak have similar looking rates of fire.

Looking at the changes may also explain why so many of us were surprised by the defenders performance. It had its place in HW1, but nothing like its performance now.

Why are a lot of units stats so low? You can replace "cloaked fighter’ with 4/5ths of the HW1 units in HWRM and ask why something is one way and it just doesn’t make sense.

They just are… Not much thought was put into their balancing.

And again, you can’t trust the DPS number because it doesn’t take into account accuracy. Cloaked fighters are even worse than they look since they have the lowest accuracy.

Cloaked Fighters should be one of the most potent Homeworld 1 fighters. It’s a hi-tech ship. It should be feared. It’s now a joke.

I think keeping it’s attack burst to have slow intervals is fine, but it’s damage should be AT LEAST as good as an incterceptor. I’d argue for 25% more than an interceptor. In a dogfight, an interceptor should win against a cloaked fighter if the cloak is not engaged because of it’s speed and it’s firing interval.

I can’t beleave that the numbers are just random. It’s not like the light vet will oneshot a destroyer. Thought we did have assault craft Kaming MSes on day one.

My point isn’t the cloak is weak relative to the Hw2 units. It’s not in its place among its peers sitting between the interceptor and attack bomber. Someone either chose to make it weaker than a scout, or someone made a mistake. This isn’t ‘random’.

They aren’t “random” but they’re based on HW2 ships and slightly adjusted, often heavily nerfed.

You can see it’s basically the same weapon as a Hiig interceptor, except the damage roughly halved and made a 2 instead of 3 shot burst.

And a 2.1s attack interval isn’t that slow…
I think they’re being made similar to how I have them in the mod, where they have a weapon similar to their HW1 one, and it’s a long interval with high accuracy so they have a high chance to kill fighters on each attack and mediocre vs corvettes, sort of “assassin” like.

If the cloaking system would be like it used to be in hw1 then all would be justified when it comes to cloaked fighters. Maybe someone forgot about it in the process? Still will this input there’s nothing more than we can do right now. This issue has been brought up and we can only hope and wait for it to get fixed.

scole has posted links twice with stuff zipped up in the large sticky post on this forum.

They’re being made similar to how they are in my mod, basically, which is similar to how they were in HW1. Though the cloaking ability isn’t change yet, nor is it in my mod. How it works is rather mysterious to me.

Seems like they could just give cloak fighters a really large cloak time, like 60 minutes.

Well the problem with how it currently is is you can’t even tell if they’re cloaking, fading into recloaking, or not cloaked at all, or what. There’s no indication.

I thought they went transparent. Not as obvious as the old wireframe, but no different than what the cloak gen does. Was my mind playing tricks on me?

Really? I’ve tried it out a few times and really didn’t see anything at all except the white energy bar depleting.

You need to be zoomed in quite a bit… Right in its face in fact to see the transparent effect

zoom out and its not so easy to spot. In this screenshot only the fighter on the extreme left is cloaked

Huh yeah. They don’t look translucent at all in the second picture to me. Maybe that’s what’s happening.

But it was more obvious whether they were active or not. A slightly stronger white lining to the updated version might make them a little easier to spot.
