I posted this on the patch notes thread, but I’ll put it here too.
Better than being useless, right?
It’s glorious. I spent an hour doing Washburne runs yesterday.
I eventually got myself killed trying to shut down Hype’s minions with CK alone, but I kind of saw that coming. I had to try.
Helios and Ruin both do more work in and of themselves, as well. Helios still annoys me and I generally avoid it, but for my Maya freshplays this opens up the tree nicely.
Zer0’s Unforseen got a buff as well, Joshhixbt showed it taking out at least trash mobs on OP8.
That was with slag and kunai, but still…
Gaige’s boosts seem less satisfying so far, although I only had time for a quick run. The most useful one might be Shock Storm, but there’s plenty to work out still.
And I’m stuck behind a ruddy desk for several more hours (T˷T)
I wouldn’t say CK is OP at all, at least not in OP8. I tested it out in Arid Badlands and, while finally useful, I still needed to use a gun to finish off Loaders. It’s not as though I could just shoot them once and walk away. It’s finally worth speccing a point in there but it’s not the magic bullet it’s being made out to be. Thumbs up to GBX for finally making alternative Cataclysm builds a viable option
I don’t really think anyone is saying that and meaning it, it’s just a new-found revelation to have it go from a few K to millions.
Well.
Looks like I’m going to revise my planned build a bit.
Um… In the video above, all the level 79 loaders did get one-shot with the Grog and CK. The level 80 ones were one DoT tick away from death. So it does have absolute potential to flat-out kill enemies.
OK, Cloud Kill is now up there with Converge as a must have
Hi all,
I specced into cloud kill at level 29, and used it on Dukino’s Mom. I was getting around 1500 damage on the first ticks, finally stopping at 3. It absolutely destroyed her.
Simon
PS also confirmed in the firing range with different guns.
It can no longer hurt you
Before
After
I did do that
I did manage to put a Dot on myself twice but only when stood right next to the target so it’s never going to be an issue.
I stood in the middle of it many times and nothing, are you sure that wasn’t an enemy or a reflected bullet?
It only happened when I procced it right next to myself, walking into the cloud did nothing.
I went to Southern Shelf, killed the first group of bandits except for one and then specced only into Foresight, Flicker and Cloudkill Phaselocked him and shot him with a Grog Nozzle.
Repeated it several times but only got a dot twice so maybe I didn’t notice something.
I’ll try it that way and shoot enemies point blank
What’s the over/under on this getting taken down a notch or two and in what timeframe?
My new maya is just ridiculous with this, I’m wasting lvl 22 badass loaders in opportunity at lvl 19 with a dinky tediore pistol I picked up just to see if I could
Just wondering as…
a) I don’t want to get too used to this if it’s gonna go away
b) with FO3 only a day away I was planning on splitting my time between BL2 and that, but if the getting is good I kinda feel compelled to rush this toon while I can
Figured some folks more familiar with the dev’s typical approach to things might be able to shed some light
Because this seriously feels broken, not that I’m complaining lol
Its broken and useless before the patch. But now, not anymore.
You were right, if it procs right in your face you can get hit by it
I hope they don’t nerf Cloud Kill after this patch. It may seem very strong pre-50, but in UVHM I think it feels just right so far.
It definitely can hit you or your teammate, I was co-oping and kept getting a corrosive DOT on me even though there weren’t any enemies shooting corrosive weapons.
I’ve now used Cloudkill extensively at UVHM, and I feel that it is very balanced at OP8. I don’t notice it much against red bar enemies, slagged or otherwise. That’s not to say that it’s not doing anything, but the reality in those situations is that I’m not standing around, waiting for Cloudkill to melt them. I fight them just as I always have, and that is as it should be.
I notice it against slagged, armored enemies, if there is a break in my shooting, such as a reload. More often than not, I don’t pause to observe it. Again, I usually play exactly as I have before.
Here is where I notice it:
Invincible Son of Crawmerax, Dukino’s Mom.
In those fights, the DoT + Grog Nozzle gives me a little lift, allowing a slightly larger margin for error. In each fight, I still have to play it near perfect, but can now at least survive a (small) hiccup. It hasn’t put me over the top trying to solo Craw, but I’m getting closer. As for Dukino’s Mom… She’s still going to drop Maya if she starts with the shock ball spam and the player’s timing is off, but I’ve become more consistent getting through that room in the Peak. I still have to use the right gear, the right plan, and clean execution.
All in all, it has been exactly what it should be: a useful tool, which doesn’t break the game.
