If someone has a link to a YouTube version that would be great, since IGNs video player is infamously terrible.
We got a good look at some stuff including Marquis’s hat and watch, as well as Thorns different arriow launch types (single vs 3 at a time) and Caldariius rush/jet pack.

Wow the questions in this interview are aweful. IGN should be embarased.
Also, for the dev team: can we please have a maid with a mop/vacuum as a playable class?

I’m almost certain interviewers are given a script, every single e3 for every single game always ends up asking the exact questions.
Notice how every time the GBX representative (or rep from any dev) magically gets to make the same talking points each video? Or whenever someone asks a unique question they stutter and stumble because they don’t have a pre-prepared answer and have to make one up that won’t make the game look bad in any way.
These videos arnt for information, they’re glorified infomercials, but that’s how it works so we need to sift through the sales pitch and see what is actual info.
There’s some screens of Helix trees, someone needs to screencap them and read the delicious info.
I might do it later if I have time.

Well, whenever something you would want asked is asked, you will usually get “we’ll have more info to share on that later.”

Indeed a lot of questions are the same and yes chris kinda skipped answering the question how many area’s are in the game.
I didn’t see anything new.
The nonlinear story mode is interesting.
@Mr_Sandman don’t bother with the screencaps you can get the helix info from the official battleborn website or mine, i find the official one a bit tricky to navigate the helix, it’s also not really obvious that you can interact with it. Yes i freeze framed all the helix screens from all pre e3 videos to get the juizy intel for my website. Than 2K posted them all online AAAAAGHHH. Note with some skills it says like this does x amount of damage, but those numbers are changing daily during development so don’t take go all math on them and look who does the most damage.

I think they may have screwed up the stats for the BattleBorn on that site…
Why does Marquis have more health than Montana, even though it’s specifically calls Marquis weak and Montanna a tank.
There’s a few others that seem off as well, I envisioned Caldarius having low Max health, not almost the top tier.
did they switch health & power ?
i took that data and used in on my site and it’s the other way around like you would expect it.
(they did say there were some typos)

This could actually be several things, @Mr_Sandman. In current tuning, health starts a bit more uniformly across all characters, except for Eldrid. Eldrid have no shields, so they start a bit healthier, and have a lot more health regen, subsequently.
For “tankier” characters, that’s really expressed two ways in our game:
-
Shields & Shield Regen - makes a lot more difference in sustain in Battleborn than health, in most cases (this is, after all, a game of exceptions). So, Marquis might have more health at a certain point, but I’ll bet Montana trumps him on shields or shield regen.
-
Crowd Control - Defenders are actually the best at crowd control, and that’s how their gameplay is most often expressed. The ability to get in and disrupt the flow of combat (and live through it) is their bread and butter.
That said, health can also be affected by Augmentation choices and …um…other stuff, that I can tell you about later.
On “Talking to you about stuff later”:
Sorry if the interview questions seem canned.
I don’t believe we shape all the questions (you can’t predict the press, after all). But, we do plan our external messaging to be sure that we have stuff to talk about (building the hype engine, right?) and that we aren’t all talking about different stuff.
Things change a LOT in game development, up to a point. We’re still kinda in that stage, especially with tuning of numercial balance values in our game. One of the reasons we don’t drop a lot of information on you guys is that we’re still making this thing, and we want to be fairly confident in our news when we say it.
All that said - I’m happy to dig in deeper here in the forum community. As you’ve seen, I’m also not shy about using words like “Currently” or “what we’d LIKE” to describe the tentative nature of some of our work. It’s very useful for us to share ideas with you very awesome, very early, and very loyal fans and here your perceptions about the game. You guys, right here, are actually making a tangible difference in some features of the game.

Ah ok, so that Health stat on the site doesn’t take into account shields and such, that makes sense.

LOL! That moment when you misunderstand and overexplain.
You’re talking about the general comparison bars on the website (Power, Health, Range, Speed). That bar is the most general of general descriptions of characters, just enough to give you a rough reminder of how that character plays out. “Health” on that site should actually read more as “Survivability” - it’s health, plus, shield, plus size, plus several other factors. Those ratings are a bit subjective - 3 is average, 5 is “best in class”, 1 is “worst in class”.
Also, the Marquis description on the site is currently wrong. Power should be 5 pips and Health should be 2 pips.
I’ll ask them to fix that.

Oh, so I WAS correct.
When that bit came up in the interview I was disapointed that there was no Spaceballs reference.

You most certainly were! Keep your eyes open. Won’t be the last mistake we catch between now and Bet…ah…erm. RELEASE.

I’m going to agree with PH, if I can only choose one though, I’ll have to go with montana
also, I to am a fan of “Bet”
Max and Brian are amazing at their jobs. The hardcore fans like us often forget their primary focus is to put on an entertaining show, not dig into the nuts & bolts of the game. Those two aren’t even journalists, they’re hosts. Big, big difference.
Battleborn really isn’t on this show for us, they’re there for people who have never heard of this game and are just getting introduced to it.
Full Marquis gameplay session
One long continuous gameplay session of marquis, no characters swapping. You also get a look on the ingame menu (i’m getting a amiibo / skylanders vibe
place your figure on the portal and he will come to life, Nintendo NX release in 2016 ? (sorry also a Nintendofan))
Some nice/funny battle chatter.
Battle chatter seems to be turned of during story dialogue ?
“Go for the eyes hoodini, go for the eyes”
“Time is luxury i can afford”
Marquis has a bit of an german accent, that also explains the EIN,ZWEI,DIE ability
btw @Mr_Sandman some official ingame stats

I like the fact that Gearbox have put a lot of effort into making battle chatter, it helps to make the characters come alive =)
