Apolitical confession - the forum’s new mobile site is driving me up the wall! Actually that is political. Viva la revolution! Make this forum great again!

For some reason this remind me of the Talisman board game.

Ok I feel a little guilty about this because it was a bit of a provocation. But it was entertaining. I made a post asking for people’s views on marginalia on an appropriate subreddit and mentioned that I thought writing in library books isn’t the worst thing ever

Then I watched the fury roll in :joy:

I haven’t played Borderlands since around 2 months ago. I’m not totally excited for 3 at this point. May just be me, but it seems like a lot is gonna change and not for the more nuanced.

Today I discovered the existence of a scholar and poet called Friedrich Gundolf (born Friedrich Leopold Gundelfinger).

Which is all very well, and wikipedia even offers a picture, but when I read his name all that comes up is a mental image of Gandalf wielding semi-automatic weapons - or, even more so…

I went here :

Incidentally, that actor apparently had a hidden Nazi past :

Probably bred werewolves.

Intriguing! The ban does seem a little overzealous given the more nuanced picture that even the Express seems to capture, heh

ā€œGundelfingerā€ does sound like a bad translation of Goldfinger into German, though I don’t think the two were related. Wikipedia tells me that Fleming stole the name from architect Ernő Goldfinger, who sued over it

Incidentally, this Gundolf fellow seems very much a product of the times (zeitgeist I suppose would be the obvious term) in Germany.

ā€œShakespeare and the German spiritā€ ( Shakespeare und der deutsche Geist, 1911)

Very Goethe, Steiner kinda stuff. Not that I actually read that - just enough to know the gist.
