[Cosplay Photo] A Vision of Solitude

I was waiting to post it to Facebook for ages…which is currently not letting me upload images. So, I can’t wait any longer! Here’s one of the shots of my Cal from Akon this year, taken by Polar Bear Photography.
This is easily my favourite candid shot from the shoot. <3

That’s pretty amazing looking, love to see a full shot of the costume if you have any.

I don’t have any of the photographer’s full body shots on this pc atm. If facebook continues to be annoying, I’m sure I’ll make a topic and post one eventually. In the meantime my avatar is a near full body shot - just clipped the feet/shins. It’s the same pic in one of the cosplay spotlight updates a while back. I’ll have to see if I can find which one it was…

edit: just looked at my avatar and realized it’s clipped to be square :stuck_out_tongue: Thankfully, I just realized I still have that picture in my pc here…

This cosplay is rather impressive; very good craftsmanship

Thanks, I have a lot of years of experience. I’m a pro technically (both hours invested and sometimes people hire me), and use some of the same materials as hollywood prop makers, with my own touches based on my own preferences and experience. I’d love to make more Battleborn, but the day job won’t cover the expenses, lol.

That costume is beautiful. Amazing work. Now we just need to find out if there really is a tiny man inside and it’ll be perfect.

I agree. Shame you can’t make more, Ryu.

Armour detailing is very impressive. Excellent work. You should consider a job in prop or costume design/fabrication for film studios - you could do really well there.

The suspense is killing meeeeee.

In time. Gotta save up money. There’s five or six on my list at the moment, and currently Mike is topping said list. It fluctuates a lot though, lol. I love too many characters.

If only I didn’t love D/FW, Texas so much! Quick, everyone, we need to convince Gearbox that they need costumes! BAM, problem solved :o) That, or we need to make the movie business bigger here. Not enough film studios, bah! :stuck_out_tongue:
I’ve seriously considered rooming with some of my old friends in Cali to get said jobs, but I doubt the pay would be good enough and regular enough for me to rent there and still own my house here in TX. :frowning: So commissions are fine for now…

An ex of mine has a sister who had a degree in costume design. She made puppets for the show Crank Yankers and from there went on to make costumes for cirque du soleil and she did very well for herself. The money is here but be weary, all of LA is a competition.

Yeah, I’ve talked with friends out there, and it sounds like exactly the same position I’m in here, so I’m happy where I’m at. No reason to move to a much more expensive and less desirable (for me) location and still be in the same exact position job and money wise. :stuck_out_tongue:  Maybe one day I’ll be able to charge enough and be in high enough demand to do costumes/props solely for my income, but until then we gotta just get by, yo.

It’s funny, I don’t have a degree in costumes, my degree is in video games XD Part of that is that it started as a hobby and then people started paying me for it. Whereas I can’t get people to pay me for the video game side of things, haha.

Well that sounds like an awesome turn of events for you. Absolutely nothing like getting paid to do what you love! But if this cosplay is any indication it’s no surprise. What made you choose caldy?

Robots. I like Robots. When I was planning this there was very little/no information on the character so I had to be ok with the idea that I might not like him, or even the game. This was coming back from San Japan last year we started planning, so…August/September. Also, I tried to pick someone I knew my friends weren’t doing. We had a Rath, Phoebe, Montana, Mellka, Marquis, Benedict, and someone who wanted to do Mike at the time, and there weren’t many known characters. So I guess I kinda lucked out that I not only love the character but love and am apparently ok at playing him. By the time we did the photoshoot a week or two after the game’s release I mastered him and bought lots of jennerit packs so that I could do all of the taunts and get photos referencing his lore. Even today I can’t say there are any photos we missed, although we had to change locations because of rain for one of the lore ones…

edit: also, thanks.

If the avi is any indication, I too love robots/mechs

Caldy’s an absolute badass so loving him came naturally. Again, glad everything worked out! You did the character justice. I’d love to see a group photo of you guys, sounds like a cool bunch!

Wow, those are all really great costumes. Though poor Rath looks a little lost, and Monty’s not trying to show off his rippling muscles to the camera.

Hah, it’s a truly candid shot, you can find better ones on their pages:

Don’t know Shayne’s page :x
