Borderlands 3 crashed on XBox One 3 times yesterday while in split screen (one of the crashes we were just going around Sanctuary).
Also crashed once while in single player mode a few days back. Really terrible to occur at this point, since the game has been out for a while.
Hope a fix can be prioritized. Enjoying the game but these crashes totally spoil the moments.
An update in my buddy and I’s case. We’ve received responses from GB Support and the whole process is pointless, as I thought it would be. I’ve researched this and found folks have been having shutdown issues with BL3 since the game launched on Xbox, still no fix in sight.
I’m up to date on this thread now and see a lot of the issues occur with people playing as Zane and using the drone, which my buddy does. He lost 7 levels (13-20) in addition to crashing his Xbox the night it also happened to me.
I play as a level 57 FL4K. Neither of us have experienced these crashes prior to a few weeks ago, shortly after the Cartel update. Neither of us were playing Cartel content at the time of the crashes. I was helping my buddy with his main missions and to advance his Zane. We were co-op’d at the time so I guess his using Zand and the drone could have something to do with it, but, he wasn’t using Mayhem (I was M3).
I’ve had 3 exchanges of emails with GB Support. Most of the questions they ask I can’t answer. I gave them the missions we were playing and all the VH specifics we could recall. Neither of us have played since that night for fear of ruining our consoles, so trying to make a vid for GB isn’t something I’m doing. They closed our tickets for lack of follow-up on the kind of info they needed.
Wouldn’t there be data on GB servers wrt my buddy and I the night we had the crashes? There has to be some info like that available to them as I think they use that kind of data to investigate cheaters, right?
Another thing I’ve seen is suggestions our consoles are overheating, like they did in the Xbox 360 days. That’s not the case with the One X, at least not my buddy and I’s units.
The fact that this doesn’t happen on other games is something to be taken into account. It boggles my brain that this has been happening since the game launched and they aren’t any closer to coming up with a cause now than they were 8 months ago.

I do believe the overheating part. My One X will start to howl like a mad wolf after 10-15 Minutes of BL 3. Before that the box was near silent, exept for Red Dead Redemption 2, that sometimes caused quite some noise, but never for extended periods of time. I have the suspicion, that the Xbox port is seriously flawed.

I don’t believe it’s Zane’s drone as such, but a combination of things. I had two hard crashes to desktop on original XB1 with Zane when the new mahyem launched. Both times that was in heavy traffic with multiple tether effects firing. I switched out my Re-Router shield and Electric Banjo and I’ve not had a Zane crash since. Note that one of the two modifiers removed by hotfix due to crashing was a similar tether effect involving multiple drones.
That doesn’t help with the XB1X issue that some have been experiencing since launch, but if the crashes you and your friend are experiencing only started with the Mayhem 2.0 update then those are things worth looking into.

It just doesn’t make sense that it doesn’t happen on any of my other games. I mean you can’t get any more frantic than Doom Eternal and it runs just fine.
I got another reply from GB Support last night and it’s seriously like talking to a wall, no offense to the support folks. It’s as if they don’t read what we write. I understand most of it is automated replies, but they treat every ticket like they’re exactly the same. Clear the cache, re-install the game, take a video of it happening (how in the hell are we to do that)? Yes, I realize I could have my Xbox record, but why should I risk my console when they should be doing it themselves.
I want to get back into the game but I just can’t risk it.

Welcome to the world of 2K “support”. You’ll keep getting the same exact thing from them. They’ll just keep asking you for videos and if you tell them that you can’t because it’s crashing, they’ll tell you to “use a mobile device”.

They had closed my original case I submitted 8 days ago for not getting what they asked for. I keep telling them when and exactly how the crashes occurred but it seems to not make any difference in the email replies. There’s nothing wrong with my internet connection or my HDD. If my Xbox One X runs other games fine, hell it ran BL3 fine up until 2.0/Cartel launched, then it’s not an overheating or other console issue. I’ll play along up until a point but when we get the exact same response no matter the issue I kind of wonder what’s happening, or not happening in the background.

I ended up abandoning my tickets because it was the same thing over and over again. I was also getting crashes on Xbox One X, mostly with Amara. Mine started with the previous patch that was dropped with DLC 2.
It’s definitely not just you. As it happens, I’m right now waiting for my Xbox One X to reboot after crashing while in the claptrap cave. If there gets to be too much splash damage and mayhem modifier effects going on at the same time, it’ll hard crash and reboot my Xbox. I’ll then get the warning that I need to make sure my Xbox is well ventilated, etc. (It is.)
As with you and many others, I don’t have this problem with other games. There’s no way GBX doesn’t know about it, and there’s nothing I can do via their automated support ticket system that’s going to enlighten them further.

It’s so damn frustrating. Do you know if the “make sure your xbox is well ventilated” comes from GB or MS? I never hear my Xbox when I’m playing, not even BL3, and when I’ve gone over to check it after a crash it’s not hot. I don’t have test gear to check the internal temp, but I’m not willing to believe after all the games I’ve played on my One X that it all of a sudden has a heat issue. I mean, it’s sitting on a glass surface by itself.
That is a MS message. An Xbox will automatically and suddenly shut down if it senses it is overheating to the point that it could damage the hardware. I, too, have checked the console just after a shut down and it is not hot.

I believe it also gives that message if the system can’t figure out what happened when it does a post-crash start up. There’s not a whole lot of logging going on when a system experiences instadeath like that.

Yes. That message can be a catch all bin that may not mean the device overheated.
Been playing 4-player coop tonight and we had multiple crashes in Trial of Cunning, right at beginning.
Supremacy ran fine as did a Takedown run, Villa run, and work on a DLC2 playthrough.
Cartel was on throughout so may have been visual FX overload, especially with a Chain Zane and a Rakk Flak in the group.
Readers of this thread should be aware that basic stability remains an issue as I’m still seeing fairly regular mentions of crashing across the forum; though I’ve seen reduced reports on all consoles, my recent impression has been that Xbox seems to have the biggest issues right now.

It isn’t just zanes drone the game can crash even in the menu screen ie main game load character menu, the game is unstable even with other vhs.
I have submitted footage on my old graphics catcher when i streamed, showing straight random crashes.
Some just game drops to main menu, then the more serious hard crash where you either have to hard reset or pull the power cable.

The post you replied to was concerning a specific incident of crashes related to changes in an update from last spring, and was occurring on all platforms.
That’s not to say that users don’t still experience crashes, just that your reply might be a bit misplaced.

Not misplaced at all as I mentioned zane isn’t fully to blame during the update causing issues, I merely pointed out that wasn’t the only reason very simple

Fair enough, although my experience since last spring has actually been quite the opposite (on original XB1 - zero crashes). Still, that’s what happens when 9-month old threads get revived. As usual, results may vary etc.

I know this is an old post but just curious if the individual that started this thread even heard anything back from GBX.

Your experience is irrelevant. You stated fact you are on the original xbox unit you don’t know about the newer consoles complete miss information.
